Monta L. Rugg

Monta Lou Rugg, 62, of Battle Creek, died April 3, 2001 at home in Convis Township.

Mrs. Rugg was born June 16, 1938 to Agnes (Fleweling) Heintz in Lansing. She attended schools in Lansing and Vermontville. She was a homemaker, and married Max Rugg on Nov. 21, 1960; he survives. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and flower gardening.

She is survived by daughters, Beth Rugg of battle Creek and Annette Morris of Charlotte; grandchildren, Robert Morris, Nicki Rugg, Joshua Tracey, Becci Thompson, and Rachael Tracey; one great-grandchild, Logan Rugg; brother, Albert Heintz of Lansing; and sister, Olga Clark of Jackson. Services were held April 6 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with pastor Stephen Covert officiating. Interment was at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Mary E. Russ

Mary E. Russ, 81 of Charlotte died Jan. 9, 2001.

Mrs. Russ was born Oct. 14, 1910 in Carmel Township, the daughter of Floyd and Eva R. (Granger) Amspacher. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and its Deborah Circle.

She is survived by one son, Lee; in granddaughter, Chelsea Russ of Charlotte; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison in 1991 and one daughter, Linda in 1993.

Services were Jan. 12 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the LAUMC or Eaton Community Hospice.

George Sabolish

George Sabolish, age 50 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the home of his parents. Mr. Sabolish was born in Canonsburg, PA on July 12, 1950. He was a 1972 graduate of the University of Michigan – Flint, member and past President of Michigan Environment Health Assoc., Institute Food Technicians, member and served on the Board of Directors Michigan Professional Employees Society, and past President of Analytical Chemists.

He is survived by his 3 children, David Sabolish, student of University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Leanne and Jordan Sabolish, both of Eaton Rapids; parents, Emil and Virginia Sabolish of Flint; 2 brothers, Emil (Nancy) Sabolish of Grand Rapids, Jeff (Laura) Sabolish of Fenton; 2 sisters, Joyce Cook of Grand Blanc, Susan (James) Mick of Royal Oak; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 18th, 2001 from St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. William Wegher officiating. Burial followed at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Friends desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by the Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home in Flint, MI.

Anna R. Samarco

Anna Rose (Burnett) Samarco, 51, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at St. Mary’s Mercy Medical Center in Grand Rapids.

She was born May 24, 1949 in Tuscumbia, Ala., the daughter of Chester Leo and Ezsie Rose (Lawson) Burnett. She grew up at the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids, and attended Eaton Rapids High School.

She is survived by her mother, Ezsie Lawson; seven brothers and sisters, Curtis Burnett of Paw Paw, Chester Burnett of Converse, Ind., Ron Burnett, Michael Burnett, and Patricia (Jay) Thuma, all of Charlotte, Jimmy Burnett of Virginia, and Sheila Doxtader of Florida; and, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother, Robert Burnett.

Graveside services were held May 14 at Rosehill Cemetery, in the VFW section, in Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were by Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Lucille I. Sanders

Lucille I. Sanders, 89, of Bellevue, died Oct. 4, 2001 at Battle Creek Health System.

Mrs. Sanders was born July 25, 1912 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Able and Della (MacMore) Ackley. She attended school in Battle Creek, but lived most of her life in Bellevue. She recently lived at North Point Woods. She married Clendee Sanders on June 4, 1929; he died in March 1976. Mrs. Sanders was employed at Kelloggs for 15 years. She volunteered as a dispatcher for the Bellevue Rescue Squad for a number of years, and belonged to the Young at Heart Senior Citizens of Bellevue. She loved working in her garden and yard, and also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved spending time with her family and having family dinners at her home.

She is survived by a son, Ronald (Ginny) Sanders of Bellevue; a daughter, Joan (Dale) Goss of Battle Creek; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Walt) Goff of Eaton Rapids and Geraldine Kilborn of Battle Creek; and brother, Merritt (Daisy) Ackley of Little Rock, Ark.

She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Private family committal services were held at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Velma A. Sanders

Velma A. Sanders, 81, of Jackson, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001 in Ann Arbor.

Mrs. Sanders was born June 22, 1920 in Jackson, the daughter of George Courtright and Mildred McCarn Courtright. She retired from Hoover Manufacturing and enjoyed crocheting and cake decorating.

She is survived by daughters, Lillian (Harry) Belieu of Yakima, Wash., and Sandra Kay (Jerry) Andrus of Grass Lake; son, Jack E. (Karen) Sanders of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, Donald and Glen Belieu, Velma Amundson, Jeff, Greg, Todd and Eric Sanders, Carl and Michael Warren, Jennifer and Jilene Andrus; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Puffenberger of Lakeland, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Connie Courtright of Murfreesboro, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1957, and son, Jerry in 1949.

Funeral services were held Aug. 23 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Charles McNeil officiating. Interment was at Needmore Cemetery, Chester Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Assembly, Lansing, or Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Sharon K. Savercool

Sharon K. Savercool, age 57 of North Port, Florida and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001. She was born December 17, 1943 in Lansing, the daughter of Clare and Ginger (Salmon) Loudenslager. Sharon was an Okemos High School graduate, class of 1961. She was formerly employed at the Eaton Stamping Company in Eaton Rapids and retired from Michigan State University. Her greatest love were her grandchildren and her closest and best friend, her husband, Jake. Sharon enjoyed traveling, walks on the beach and to have fun in everything she did. Preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Jake; 3 children, Jodi (David) Clough of Houghton Lake, Ginger Richardson of Eaton Rapids and Jamie Savercool of Seattle, WA; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea and Brenin Richardson, Garrett and Gavin Savercool; 2 sisters, Charmaine Loudenslager of Livonia and Dawn (Ron) McDaniel of North Port, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Sharon K. Savercool.

Lucile J. Schneider

Lucile J. Schneider, 89, of Charlotte, died Monday, March 5, 2001.

Mrs. Schneider was born Sept. 22, 1911, in Springport Township, the daughter of Frank and Anna Belle (Johnson) Myers.

A graveside service was held March 8 at Acacia Park Cemetery, Beverly Hill, Mich., with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.
