Robert S. Shaull Jr.
Robert Shirley Shaull Jr., 72, of Potterville, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
Mr. Shaull was born Nov. 30, 1928 in Charlotte, the son of Robert Sr. and Inez (Ule) Shaull. He was an upholsterer, working at various upholstery shops including J.W. Knapps. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by son, David Shaull of Potterville; former wife, Mary (Foote) Shaull; and a brother, George Shaull.
Memorial services will be planned at a later date.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Eleanore “Ellie” Shaw
Eleanore “Ellie” Shaw, age 72 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, September 30, 2001 in Lansing. Ellie was born July 21, 1929, the daughter of Gordon Theodore and Alice Harriett (Rood) Twitchell. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict and retired from Felpausch in Eaton Rapids. Ellie was a member of Abie’s Bowling Team, golfed with the Monday Night League at Bonnie View and was an avid bingo player. She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Ashley and 2 sisters, Irene Twitchell and Jeannie Lampman.
Surviving are her daughter, Rosa (Robert “Alan”) Hector of Mason; 3 grandchildren, Leslie (Dan) Smith, Mike (Kim) Hector, Melissa (Jeff) DeView; 6 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Dylan and Kassidy Smith, Miranda and Clayton Hector, Victoria Denny; sister, Eva (Ellis) Sanders of Eaton Rapids; nieces and nephews, Steve (Ann) Sanders, Rick (Jackie) Sanders, Julie (Jim) Hannon, Patricia (Greg) Martin, Dalynne (Jim) Preston, Koral (Ken) Nelson, Gordie (Sue) Lampman; grand nieces and grand nephews, Allison and Kelsey Sanders, Stephanie Grant and Gabrielle Sanders, Jessica and Zach Hannon; and dear friend Horace.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2001, 1 p.m., at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, with Rev. Dallas McFarland officiating. Interment will follow at Dimondale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to Hospice House of Mid Michigan in memory of Ellie Shaw.
Shirley A. Shaw
Shirley A. Shaw, 70, of Charlotte, died Jan. 1, 2001.
Mrs. Shaw was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Charlotte. She was a member of the F.O. Eagles Aerie #3552 and the American Legion Charlotte #42, and she enjoyed volunteering and helping others.
Surviving are a daughter, Janette (John) Burzan of Charlotte; son Jason Crannell of Bellevue; grandchildren, Harmony, Caleb, Jared, Jacob and Shayana; her mother; Beulah Engelter of Springport; brothers, Wendell Engelter of Cadillac, Elwyn Engelter of Allegan, and Knowle Engelter of Parma; and, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Shaw in November 1959.
Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Charles Jenson and Rev. David Ames officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Thomas R. Shaw
Thomas R. Shaw, 65 of Battle Creek, president and third-generation owner of Shaw Funeral Homes of Bellevue and Battle Creek, long time professional and community leader and member of one of Battle Creek’s oldest families, died Jan. 20, 2001, at Battle Creek Health System.
Mr. Shaw was a funeral director since 1959 and owned and operated the Shaw Funeral Home since 1966. He purchased the Lehman Funeral Home in Bellevue in 1975 and has operated it as the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel since.
He was born April 2, 1935, in Battle Creek, the son of Franklin E. and Elizabeth (Balles) Shaw Jr. He attended Battle Creek Central High School and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1953 where he played football under Rolla Anderson. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University’s Department of Mortuary Science in 1969 when he became a licensed funeral director. He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was an Eagle Scout an ardent supporter of scouting through the years. He married Esther M. Smith of Athens June 27, 1959. He was an avid supporter and fan of the University of Michigan, member of the Alumni Association and Victor’s Club. He organized the annual Michigan Day Golf Outing in Battle Creek from 1969-98. He was a season football ticket holder for more than 45 years and attended many Rose Bowl and other bowl games in which Michigan played.
Shaw took over the operation of the funeral home upon his father’s death in 1966. The business dates back to 1866, as Battle Creek’s first funeral home. His grandfather, Franklin E. Shaw, purchased the funeral business in 1909 and operated the business on South Avenue in Battle Creek. His father, Franklin E. Shaw Jr., purchased the former H.B. Sherman residence at 121 Capital Ave., N.W., in 1949 and the business operated from that site until the funeral home moved to its present located at 2838 Capital Ave., S.W., in 1988. Professionally, he was a past directory of the Michigan Funeral Directors’ Association and served on many committees. He was awarded a MFDA 40-years licensee certificate recently. He was past state chairman of the Order of the Golden Rule, an international Association of Independent Funeral Homes.
Locally, he was past president of the Battle Creek Rotary Club (1971-72) and a Paul Harris Fellow; member of the Ira A. Beck Lodge #503, F&AM; Saladin Temple and Battle Creek Shrine Club, where he took part in the Mini-500 Patrol; member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and in many committees; past Calhoun County Chairman of Ducks Unlimited; past president of Goodwill industries; active with the United Way; former member of Battle Creek Jaycees; and past Michigan Week Chairman. He served a term on the Battle Creek Planning Commission and participated in the fund drive to build the present-day Y-Center. He was a member of the Battle Creek Country Club, former Athiestan Club and Knife and Fork Club. He was a car enthusiast and bought and sold many classic cars through the years. He attended nearly every Detroit Auto Show the past 40 years and enjoyed waterfowl hunting, decoy collecting, playing golf and U of M athletics.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Esther (Smith); one daughter, Elizabeth L. (John) Gescheidle of Lake Forest; and two brothers, Franklin “Pete” III of Battle Creek and J. Michael of Gull Lake.
Services were Jan. 24 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Joy Rogers officiating. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek.

Arthur J. Sheets Jr.
Arthur Jack Sheets Jr., 56, of Bellevue, died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Sheets was born July 1, 1944 in Marion, the son of Jack and Vera Lucille (Owens) Sheets Sr. He graduated from Homer High School. He served in the US Navy, having been stationed in Newfoundland. Mr. Sheets was employed with Malleable Iron Co. of Albion for a brief period. He was also employed with the Charlotte Police Department and the Eaton County Sheriff Department, and worked undercover with the Lansing State Police. He retired from General Motors at the Lansing Oldsmobile Plant, working in plant protection. He was employed there for over 23 years, and retired due to disability. He married Pam Fitts on July 21, 1962 in Albion; they later divorced. Mr. Sheets was a volunteer firefighter and paramedic with Charlotte Emergency Rescue; a member of the UAW Local Lansing, AA and AARP. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammera Marie Sheets of Potterville, and Tracy Jean (Tom) Crooks of Lake Worth, Fla.; four brothers, Carlton, Thomas (Becky) and John, all of Hillsdale, and Tim of Detroit; sister, Donna (Fred) Johnson of Decatur, Ala.; grandson, Donovan Sheets of Potterville, and granddaughter, Lauren Shea Crooks of Lake Worth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son and daughter.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service was held April 13 at The Lyon Family Funeral Home Chapel, Marshall.

David G. Sherman
David G. Sherman, 33, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, March 13, 2001.
Mr. Sherman was born Sept. 13, 1967 in Lansing, the son of Gary and Shirley (Meredith) Sherman, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a 1985 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School and had been employed as a die maker for Dowding Industries. He was also an avid snowmobiler.
He is survived by his wife Kim (Mills) Sherman; daughter Kendra Marie and son, Kirk David, all of Eaton Rapids; his mother, Shirley Sherman of Charlotte; brother, Douglas (Susan) Sherman of Eaton Rapids; sister, Dawn (Robert) Edison of Lansing; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Sherman in 1990. Funeral services were held March 17 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Scott Boles of First Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids officiating. Interment was at Perry Cemetery, Brookfield Twp.

Betty Shinsky
Betty Shinsky, 74, of Holland, formerly of Dearborn and Charlotte, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. Shinsky was a member of the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard; children, Gary (Karen) of Saginaw, Tim (Marlene) of Nunica, Cathy (Kevin) Quigley of Holland, and Robert (Kathy) of Zeeland; daughter-in-law, Lynda Shinsky of Holland; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rick in 1983, and her sister, Joyce in 1994.
Funeral services were held April 30 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, Holland, with Pastor Rodney Otto officiating. Interment was at Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

June M. Shirely
June M. Shirely, 74, of Lake George, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001 in Midland.
Mrs. Shirely was born July 1, 1926 in Fenton, the daughter of Charles and Thelma (Runyan) Norton. She married Delbert Shirely on July 6, 1944 in Albion; he died June 3, 1990. Mrs. Shirely graduated from Albion High School. She lived in the Lake George area for about 10 years, having moved from the Charlotte area. She had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and her family.
She is survived by three sons, Delbert (Cecile), Thomas, and James (Holly); three daughters, Nancy (Edward) Emerson, Ann Gessner and Susan (Kenneth) Johnson; siblings, John Norton, Nancy Barnes and Sandra Guilloz; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and brother, James and Roland.
Services were held June 6 at Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, Clare, with Rev. Margaret Vredeveld officiating. Interment was at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
