Margaret Ainsworth
Margaret Bethel Ainsworth, 80, of Vermontville died Oct. 19, 1999 at Lowell.
Mrs. Ainsworth was born in Nashville Dec. 28, 1918, the daughter of Lester and Lillian (Varney) Beach. She had been a member of the Band Boosters, Kalamo Birthday Club, Vermontville Women’s Club, and has been a 4-H leader. She enjoyed scrapbooking and cooking.
She is survived by one son, Larry (Julie) of Vermontville; two grandchildren, Brian (Jill) Ainsworth of Ada and Steven Ainsworth of Vermontville; and two step-grandchildren, Trinka Jeffery of Grand Rapids and Clifford Jeffery of Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, in June 1991 and daughter-in-law, Lorie, in Aug. 1991.
Services were Oct. 22 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery, Nashville.

Thelma Allen
Thelma (Stults) Allen, 91, of Brookfield Township, Charlotte, died March 1, 1999 at Golden Days AFC in Charlotte.
Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 19, 1908 in Lee Township, Calhoun County to Adelbert and Catherine Stults. She attended Olivet High School for three years and graduated from Marshall High School in 1925. She married Forrest Allen in 1935. She was a homemaker and enjoyed farm life, traveling and dancing. She was a former member of the Emma Grange, the women of the Moose Lodge in Marshall and the Farm Bureau.
She is survived by one son, David (Gail) Allen of Charlotte; two grandsons, Jacob Little of Indianapolis, Ind. and Justin Little of Charlotte; a sister, Alma Bingham of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Forrest, in 1984; a sister, Edna Masters; and two brothers, Lewis (Mike) Stults and Leslie (Tim) Stults.
Services were held March 3 with Pastor Geri Litchfield officiating. Interment was at Perry Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital of Charlotte.
Lucile Alt
Lucile Alt, age 92, died Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Michigan Masonic Home in Alma. Lucile was born July 10, 1906 in Valparaiso, IN the daughter of Angus and Flora (Eldred) MacDonald. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids First Congregational Church and a life member of the Eaton Rapids Order of the Eastern Star #241. Lucile and her husband were the owners and operators of Alt’s Men’s Wear in Eaton Rapids for many years. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and traveling in their Airstream trailer and was a member of the Wally Byram Caravan Club for 14 years.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Victor H.; 2 daughters, Mary (Keith) Strang and Virginia “Ginny” (Dick) Huntington all of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren who loved their Grandma “Cile”, Vicki Lease, Jane (Mark) Fitzgerald, Aaron Huntington, Amy Huntington and husband Tom Parsons, Ann (Bill “Butch”) Schultz; 2 great-grandchildren, McKenna and Alek Parsons, and “baby” Schultz; sisters-in-law, Jane (Alt) Kilgour of Bloomfield Hills and Maxine (Alt) Magle of Florence, AZ.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 12 noon, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Dr. Alan Malcolm, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. A memorial service will be presented by the Eaton Rapids OES #241. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday one-hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital in memory of Lucile Alt.
John Anderson
John Eric Anderson, 28, of Battle Creek died June 22, 1999.
Mr. Anderson was born July 26, 1970 in Battle Creek, the son of Richard and Greta (Church) Anderson.
He is survived by his mother, Greta; one sister, Jill (Carl) Tobias of Kenosha, Wis.; one brother, Ronald (Lavonne) Anderson of Toledo, Ohio; his grandmother, Emma Anderson of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1998 and one brother, Richard in 1964.
Services were June 26 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Glenn Wegner and Fr. Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment was in the Springport Cemetery, Springport.
John A. Andreas
John A. Andreas, age 83, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999 in Eaton Rapids. John was born November 22, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada the son of Joseph R. and Rosala (Luster) Andreas. Mr. Andreas retired from Oldsmobile in 1976 after 23 years of service. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Katherin and Margaret; and 4 brothers, Peter, Bernard, Gregory and Zelest Andreas.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Arlene R.; daughter, Karen S. DuBois of Eaton Rapids; son, Michael W. Andreas of Lansing; foster son, Bryce D. Morrill of Salt Lake City, Utah; granddaughter, Rebecca A. DuBois of Lansing and brother, Daniel Andreas of Onondaga.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 4, 1999 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Jerry Swift, Tim Swift, Mark Higdon, Clinton Harmon, Darrell Harmon, and Mike Swan. Honorary casket bearer was Donald Love.
Gloria Andrews
Gloria Dawn Andrews age 64 of Vermontville died Jan. 26, 1999 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Mrs. Andrews was born in St. Augustine, FL., the daughter of Perry Elton & Irene Maybelle (Green) Davis. She was a waitress at the Executive Dining for General Motors.
She is survived by husband Ion Andrews; 2 daughters, Kay (James) Zombor of Freeport and Kim May of Nashville; son, Kirk (Tracy) Andrews of Nashville; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers Robin Davis of Lawrenceville, GA.
Funeral services were held Jan. 29, 1999 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with the Rev. Marc Livingston officiating.
Mildred L. Ashcraft
Mildred L. Ashcraft, 94, of Olivet died May 15, 1999 in Olivet in the care of her daughter, Loretta McGillis.
Mrs. Ashcraft was born March 16, 1905 in Kalamo, the daughter of Ira and Nellie (Wilson) Mead. She grew up in Decatur, Ill. and moved to Battle Creek in 1935 and Olivet in 1952. She married Raymond Ashcraft April 13, 1927 in Pekin, Ill. and had worked with him on the family farm, which she enjoyed. She also enjoyed reading, poetry, needlework, traveling and children.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Jan Schriner and Loretta McGillis, both of Olivet, and Ruth Ann Phillips of Inverness, Fla.; two sons, Raymond Jr. of Nashville and Kenneth of Lansing; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1978; an infant daughter, Laura Ashcraft; two sons, Donald and Robert; one sister, Mabel Cox; and one brother, Raymond Mead.
Services were May 18 at the Craig K. Kemf Funeral Home, Marshall, with the cemetery.
Ralph Baird
Ralph Baird, 82, of Sedona, Ariz., formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, June 28, 1999 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Mr. Baird was born June 22, 1917 in Greene County, Ind. and lived in Charlotte for over 35 years, where he was an active member of the community. He founded C&B Silo Company in 1947 and later, Cropstore Silos and Timberset Buildings. He was part owner of WB Farms in Mulliken and founded Horizon Cablevision. In 1994, he married Mary Frances Zellers of Sheridan, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Marcia Eileen (John Evangelisti) Baird of Denver, Colo., and Christy Ann Baird of Lansing; three sons, Alan (Cathy) of Lansing, John (Suzanne) of Idledale, Colo. and Mark of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren, John Shannon (Lisa) Splawn of Dimondale, Justin Baird of Ann Arbor, Morgan Baird of Tallahassee, Fla., Lauren Baird of Lansing and Leah Iantha Baird of Idledale, Colo.; two great-granddaughters, Cassidy Marie Splawn and Lily Shannon Splawn of Dimondale; two sisters, Katherine Bucher of Bloomfield, Ind. and Ruth Bogard of Wichita, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews of several generations.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie in 1974; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Noel Splawn in 1995; his parents; and six siblings.
There will be memorial service Monday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Z. William Colson officiating. A private interment will be held in Sheridan, Ind. at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
Lawrence Baker
Lawrence Elmer Baker, 85, of Charlotte, died Jan. 8, 1999.
Mr. Baker was born Dec. 19, 1914 in Sturgis, the son of Glenn William and Elizabeth May (Chapel) Baker. He was employed by the state of Michigan Department of Social Services in both Lansing and Ann Arbor.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Downing).
Services were Jan. 11 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Mark Booth officiating. Interment was in the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Perry Township, Perry.
