Inez Silva
Inez Silva, 92, of Lake Odessa, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 3, 1999.
Mrs. (Infante) Silva was born Jan. 21, 1907 in Mexico, and married Domingo Silva on May 6, 1922.
Surviving are her daughters, Amelia (Juan) Baez of Grand Rapids, Hortenzia (Lazaro) Gallardo of Lake Odessa, Esther Silva of Sunfield, Victoria Escodebo of Roswell, NM; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo; daughter, Juanita; and grandson, Bobby.
A vigil service was held on Dec. 6 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Lake Odessa. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 7 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Boufford as celebrant. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward’s Catholic Church.

Dorothy Smith
Dorothy V. Smith, 72, of Bellevue, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
Mrs. Smith was born March 24, 1927 in River Rouge to Joseph and Leona (Sigler) Jobin. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, and married Reginald F. Smith on June 16, 1945. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bellevue, where she served on the church council. She was also a past president and member of Olivet College Women’s Board and past secretary of Doty Native Flower Association.
Surviving are her husband, Reginald; sons, Patrick (Diann) Smith of Harlingen, Texas, David (Judy) Smith of Clinton Twp., Timothy (Vicky) Smith of Woodhaven, Daniel (Debbie) Smith and Terry (Jane) Smith of Brownstown, Twp., Dennis (Jo) Smith of Flat Rock, Michael (Susan) Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., and Fred (Cindy) Smith of Battle Creek; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Jobin of Trenton; sisters, Eleanor Vallie of Olivet and Bernadette Thompson of Grosse Pointe Woods; and mother, Leona Jobin of Olivet.
Mass was held Nov. 16 at St. Constance Catholic Church in Taylor, with Rev. Fr. Leo Sabourin officiating. Interment was at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Southgate.

Ellen Smith
Ellen Smith, 54, of Mulliken, died May 31, 1999 at a Lansing hospital following a long illness.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 12, 1944 in Charlotte, the daughter of Warren and Esther (McCormack) Davis. She was a volunteer at Sparrow Hospital’s neonatal unit for 13 years, active in 4-H and a great supporter of Grand Ledge High School band functions.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; two sons, Ryan of Mulliken and Wade and his fiancee, Brie Minshall of West Lafayette, Ind.; one brother, Marvin Davis of Mulliken; and one half-brother, Don Branberg of Higgins Lake.
Services were June 3 at the Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Pastor Don Woolum officiating. Interment was in the Meadowbrook Cemetery.
Ellen N. Smith
Ellen N. Smith, age 100, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, July 29, 1999 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Wyoming, MI. She was born November 21, 1898 in Clarence Township, Calhoun County, the daughter of James and Gertrude (Starks) Hook. Ellen and her husband Charles owned and operated a gas station/grocery store on Main Street in Eaton Rapids for many years. She was actively involved with and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #241 and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #15 both of Eaton Rapids. Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles; son, Neil; and sister, Ava Hill.
Surviving are a daughter, Sydonna (Rev. Arthur) Jackson of Wyoming, MI; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Smith of Traverse City; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31st at 2 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Tom Evans of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids officiating. An Eastern Star memorial service was conducted on Friday evening by the O.E.S. Lodge #241. Burial was in the North Clarence Cemetery in Calhoun County. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the Order of the Easter Star Lodge #241, Eaton Rapids, in memory of Ellen K. Smith.
Evelyn Smith
Evelyn A. Smith, 83, of Potterville, died Jan. 8, 1999, at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 24, 1915 in St. Johns, a daughter of John and Mary Thurston.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Harold) Prather, Jr. of Potterville and Suzanne Rowe of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Gary (Sandy) Smith, Jr. of Dimondale; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Smith, Sr. in 1989.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Field and Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with Pastor Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was in the Dimondale Cemetery.
Irene Smith
Irene (Pruden) Smith, 88, of Charlotte died Nov. 30, 1999.
Mrs. Smith was born May 30, 1911 in Eaton Township, the daughter of Melchi and Myrtle (Day) Pruden. She was a postal clerk in the Women’s Army Corps, stationed in New York, NY, from 1944-45. She was a life member of VFW Post #2406 in Charlotte, the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids and a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church. She was the Eaton Township treasurer for 28 years, member of the Charlotte Rebekah Lodge #68 for over 57 years, and an associate member of the Sunshine Rebekah Lodge #142 in Eaton Rapids. She was also a member of the Grand River Valley Ladies Encampment Auxiliary and had been a member of the Royal Neighbors for over 52 years, and a Red Cross volunteer at Hayes Green Beach Hospital for 28 years.
She is survived by one brother, Jack (Oral) Pruden of Charlotte; special nieces and nephews, Carolyn (Philip) Cumberworth of Eaton Rapids, Joyce (Gale) Nelson of Dimondale; one grandniece, Shannon (Russell) Rogers of Charlotte; one great-grandniece, Taelor Rogers; one great-grandnephew, Ryan Rogers; several other nieces and nephews; and special friend, Josie (Richard) Efaw of Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, John, and Walter Pruden; and two sisters, Mable Horn and Alice Strawcutter.
Services were Dec. 3 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment was in the Center Eaton Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis.
James Smith
James Robert Smith, 79, formerly of Charlotte died Dec. 4, 1998 in Angola, Ind., after an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 29, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of Marion, Ind. He was married to Irene Pruden from 1950-92. Prior to his having a stroke in 1990, he worked at Michigan State University as an electrician. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany and at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Past Commander and life member of VFW Post #2406, Charlotte; Past Master of Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63; member of the Leslie Chapter 100, Leslie Council #50; and Past Noble Grand of Eaton Rapids Oddfellows Lodge #144.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Smith; two grandsons, Steven and Tony Douglas; three great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Dewey Howard of DeWitt; and two sisters, Lois Speers and Imogene Slocum, both of Chelsea.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Smith Howard, and one son, Robert.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. at VFW Post #2406, 695 Lansing Road, Charlotte.
Larry Smith
Larry Smith, 47, of Bellevue died July 3 at Evergreen Manor, Springfield.
Mr. Smith was born April 10, 1952 in Albion, the son of Harlow and Virginia (Lightner) Smith. He was a 1970 graduate of Bellevue High School and enjoyed playing the accordion.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (McDonald); two stepsons; one grandchild; three sisters, Jean Mapes, Janet Brown, and Louisa Still, all of Battle Creek; one brother, Gary of Bellevue; and his father, Harlow of Bellevue.
Services were July 6 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Steve Covert officiating. Interment was at Assyria Cemetery, Assyria Township.
