Kenneth Patrick
Kenneth R. Patrick, 63, of Vermontville, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Patrick was born in West Coal, Ken. the son of Curtis and Mallie (Morgan) Patrick and had been an Eaton County resident for 48 years coming from Kentucky. He had been employed by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors retiring in 1991 after 32 years of service. He attended the Chester Gospel Church and enjoyed writing poetry, painting, fishing and playing his mandolin.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Ann (Eaton); one daughter, Earlene Jo (Terry) King of Vermontville; two sons, Kenneth Allen (Andrea) and Curtis Lloyd (Shawn) both of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Melissa Mannor, Travis Melvin, Eric King, Caitlin King, Jesse and Sean Patrick; and one brother, Charles (Thelma) of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Feb. 19 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte with Pastor Mark Livingston and Pastor Duane Royston officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Marguerite G. Patterson
Marguerite G. Patterson, age 88, died Saturday, February 6, 1999 in Albion. Marguerite was born November 17, 1910 in Albion the daughter of Mark J. and Maybelle (Harris) Rumsey. She was a graduate of Albion High School class of 1930, a housemother with the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids from 1963-1975, and was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Eaton Rapids.
Surviving are her daughter, Loena Mae Horton of Albion; son, Roger (Barbara) Patterson of Jackson; 7 grandchildren, Samuel and David Talbot, Wendy Maurer, John and Joseph Patterson, Julie Flath, Karen Horton; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 1999, 1 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Pastor Mark Eckert officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Albion. Casket bearers will be John Patterson, Joseph Patterson, Samuel Talbot, David Talbot, Gary Flath and Rod Lagow. Those desiring may make contributions to Calvary Lutheran Church in memory of Marguerite Patterson.
Harvey Paul
Harvey W. Paul, 81, of Charlotte died Feb. 8, 1999 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mr. Paul was born Oct. 13, 1917 in Lajunta, Colo., the son of Don and Laura (Zentner) Paul and had been a Charlotte resident since 1972. He owned and operated the Charlotte Coast to Coast Hardware from 1972-81. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, Charlotte Lodge #120 F&AM, the Shriners and had been a member of the Charlotte Lions Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Cherri Paul of Mukiltco, Wash.; one son, Warren (Tina) of Snohomish, Wash.; two grandchildren, Erin and Katie Paul; two sisters, Erma Robinson of Casper, Wyo. and Virginia Khaliqi of Ordway, Colo.; one brother, Howard of Littleton, Colo.; and special friend, Gladys Davis of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thekla Oct. 21, 1990.
Services were Feb. 13 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Episcopal Church or Shrine Children’s Hospital.
Vaughn Peake
Vaughn G. Peake, 71, of Grand Ledge died Jan. 24, 1999 at his home.
Mr. Peake was a life-time Grand Ledge resident, retired supervisor at Wohlert’s Manufacturing, a member of St. Michael Church, World War II Army veteran, and life member of Charlotte VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; son, Jim (Karole) of Portland; daughters, Dawn (Jim) Bachelder of Portland, Pat (Dennis) Schartzer of Potterville, Gail (John) Van Alphen of Zeeland, Susan (Dale) Harlow of Charlotte, and Carole (Will) Linley of Laingsburg; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Lyle (Darlene) Peake, Wayne (Helen) Peake, and Kenneth (Carolyn) Peake; sisters, Lulu (Paul) Janes all of Grand Ledge, and Shirley Quick of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Jan. 27 at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. Fr. Robert McGraw officiating. Military graveside services followed at Pioneer Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Michael Church.
Mary A. Perkins
Mary A. Perkins, age 69, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, January 8, 1999 in Marshall. She was born May 26, 1929 in Ashland, KY and raised in Springport. Mary was the daughter of Jesse and Ocie (Whitaker) Music. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Franklin Music, and husbands, Willard Hammond and Bee Perkins.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Doxie (Jim) Drinkwater of Narrow Lake and Willa (Jim) Tidwell of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, Jerry (Kathy) Hammond of Springport and Bill (Peg) Hammond of Eaton Rapids; sister, Genoia “June” Lawson of Marlett; 3 brothers, Jeff Music of Albion, Scott Music and George Music, both of Homer; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 1999, 1 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mary Perkins.
Vinton Perry
Vinton C. Perry, 72, of Olivet died May 5, 1999 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, where he was taken after being stricken at home.
Mr. Perry was a lifelong Olivet area resident and a 1945 graduate of Olivet High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a life member and past Master of the Olivet Lodge #267 F&AM, had served on the Olivet City Council for 11 years, and a life member of the Bellevue/Olivet OES #196. He has been branch manager of Pet Milk, Inc./Diehl, Inc. in Charlotte, from which he retired in 1989 after 45 years of service. He was a loyal Red Cross blood donor, having donated over 11 gallons of blood, delivered Meals on Wheels in the Olivet area for many years, enjoyed gardening and golfing, and was fondly called “PaPa” by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha “Peg” (Bargy); one daughter, Denise (Don) Cummings of Olivet; two sons, David of Olivet and Donald (Rose) of Bellevue; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Dolores Briggs of Dutton; and two brothers, Lawrence of Charlotte and George (Ruth) of Olivet.
Services were May 8 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Scott Brood officiating. Interment was in the Olivet Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were provided by the Olivet Lodge #267 F&AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Dean Peters
Dean C. Peters, 66, of Charlotte died March 22, 1999.
Mr. Peters was born March 2, 1933 in East Detroit, the son of Mike and Sophia (Varanovich) Peters. He was a counselor for the Eaton County Substance Abuse Agency, active in supporting Alcoholics Anonymous programs and on the board of directors of Hope House, Jonesville.
He is survived by his wife, Constance; three stepchildren, Shawn Hartless and Shad Little, both of San Diego, Calif., Shana Sanders of Piedmont, Okla.; two brothers, Charles (Sue) of Tucson, Ariz., and James (Sue) of Midland; one nephew; one niece; three cousins; and two great-nephews.
Services were March 25 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating.
Herbert Peterson
Herbert L. Peterson, 85, of Charlotte died July 14, 1999 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, after an extended illness.
Mr. Peterson was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn., the son of Martin and Mary (Johnson) Peterson and had been an Eaton County resident for 57 years, coming from Minnesota. He was a retired farmer and self-employed carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Thompson); four daughters, Mary Dunn and Martha (Felix) Gonzalez, both of Charlotte, Marlene (Darry) Kilburn of Columbia, Tenn., and Marsha (Brian) MacKenzie of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four sons, Leslie of Lansing, Ronald (Gwen) and Martin, both of Charlotte, and Gary (Shirley) of Olivet; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Ellertson of Olivet; and one brother, Morris of Detroit Lakes.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois (Link) Waite in 1992; three sisters, Myrtle Henrikson, Alvina Sherbrooke, and Gladys Lindblad; and six brothers, Oliver, Theodore, Clarence (6 mos. old), Clarence (16 yrs. old), Walden, and Wilbur.
Services were July 16 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Douglas Hammond officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall.
Rex Phillips
Rex Donald Phillips, 83, of Marshall, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999.
Mr. Phillips was born April 18, 1915 in Chester Township, the son of R.D. and Bertha (Jaquette) Phillips. He married Genevieve M. Stierley on Jan. 1, 1941. Mr. Phillips was a carpenter and farmer who lived and worked in Eaton and Clinton counties, living 22 years in the St. Johns area. He was most recently a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Holt.
He is survived by two daughters, Roberta (Richard) DeMott of Janesville, Iowa and Elnora B. Phillips of Haslett; four grandchildren, Jeffrey D. DeMott of Albany, Ga., Timothy DeMott of Americus, Ga. and Anna DeMott of Janesville, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan DeMott, Timothy DeMott, Bethany DeMott and Jefferson DeMott; a sister, Ardis Schulze of White Cloud; two brothers, Leslie Phillips of Montgomery, Ala. and Lloyd Phillips of Shreveport, La.; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; two brothers, Harold and John Phillips; and two great-grandchildren, Lydia DeMott and Naomi DeMott.
Services were held Jan. 25 at Pray Funeral Home with Dr. Harold DeMott officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
