Dennis Joe Culver
Dennis Joe Culver, age 56 of Howell, died Saturday, December 4, 1999 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Elk Rapids. He was born January 18, 1943 in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver. Mr. Culver was a building mechanic for the Lansing Board of Water and Light Public Utilities, where he had been employed for the past 26 years. He was a loyal and active member of IBEW. Mr. Culver enjoyed his summer residence in the Torch Lake River area where he engaged in his passion for the Northern Michigan outdoors. He loved the water and was an avid boater. His favorite expression was “There is nothing quite so nice as messing about the water”. He built his life around his family and will be remembered as a loyal, loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa R. (Leonard); two children, Chad (Michelle) Culver of Traverse City and Jamie (Scot) Tatman of Lowell; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, FL, Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Courtney Ann and Alexandra Lyn Culver and Emily Jane Tatman; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother, Timothy D. Culver.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass River Natural Area, PO Box 231, Bellaire, MI 49615.
Timothy D. Culver
Timothy D. Culver, age 60, longtime resident of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, December 4, 1999, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Elk Rapids. He was born September 5, 1939 in Lansing, the son of Wayne J. and Gladys (Cooke) Culver. He had served as an educator for the past 30 years, as a teacher, athletic coach, principal and assistant superintendent. Although he was most recently employed by Concord Academy Antrim Charter School, in Mancelona, he had worked in the Eaton Rapids Public School system for 27 years. Prior to his employment at Concord Academy, he served as Director of Island City Academy in Eaton Rapids. Mr. Culver was an avid golfer, but also enjoyed tennis and boating. He loved the Northern Michigan outdoors and was a loyal Spartan Fan. He was a prolific reader and brought his enjoyment of good books to the classroom. Mr. Culver was also active in the Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club. Mr. Culver was born in Lansing and lived on Cavanaugh road where he attended Forrest Road School. He attended Pattengil Junior High School and graduated from Easter High School in 1957. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Michigan State University. While attending school, he worked at WJIM-TV (now WLNS).
Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. (Myers); two children, Barbara Jane (Robert) Nulf of Climax and Sandra Kaye Culver of Chicago; four brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Culver of Vero Beach, FL, Tom Culver of Lansing, Bud (Wava) Culver of Lansing and Ted (Rosalyn) Culver of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Sydney Ray Nulf and Henry Robert Nulf; as well as many nieces ad nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and died with his brother, Dennis Joe Culver.

Alice Cundiff
Alice Isabel Cundiff, 92, of Charlotte died Feb. 21, 1999 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte, following a short illness.
Mrs. Cundiff was born June 30, 1906 in Pontiac, the daughter of Cash and Retta (Pearsall) Walker. She spent many years living in the rural Hillsdale area and in Charlotte the past 10 years. She enjoyed animals and farm living. She began driving a Model T Ford as a young girl and had an 80-year unblemished driving record.
She is survived by two nieces, Retta (Glenwood) McNeil of Charlotte and Lillie Cundiff of Kentucky; one cousin, Beatrice Haynes of Texas; and the Craig Snyder family of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eiljah; her parents; brothers and sisters.
There were no services. Interment was in Bankers’ Cemetery, Hillsdale. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Charles Cunningham
Charles Cecil “Chuck” Cunningham, 55, died May 3, 1999.
Mr. Cunningham was born Aug. 17, 1943 in Lake Odessa. He retired from Barker Fowler Electric Co. after over 24 years of service and upon retirement, opened and operated Electric Motor Repair, Inc. in Lansing. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #665. He was a kind-hearted man and a hard worker who was respected and admired by many friends and loved ones. He was an avid outdoorsman and cherished Michigan and all its natural wonders. His mechanical ability was respected, as most of his associates and contacts would attest to, and he was always willing to offer help and good advice, while keeping a keen sense of humor intact.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Christine; three sons, Keith and Bryan Cunningham and Brian Cagle; one grandson, Calvin Cunningham; his parents, Dareld and Rosie Cunningham of Charlotte; two sisters, Yvonne (Dr. Larry) Baker of Wisconsin and Nancy Cunningham of lake Odessa; one brother, Gary Cunningham of Lake Odessa; two brothers, Lloyd (Linda) Catey of Grand Ledge and Richard (Joy) Cagle of Kalamazoo; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services were May 7 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Dave Voorhees officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Robert Curtis, Sr.
Robert Grover Curtis, Jr., 82, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 19999.
Mr. Curtis was born July 23, 1916 in Woodland, the son of Grover and Georgia (Follett) Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughter, Joan (Daniel) Haigh of Charlotte; son, Robert Curtis, Jr. of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Janet Curtis of Thorton, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Hutchison of Grand Ledge and Hazel Bowman of Leslie; two brothers, Willard (Celine) Curtis of Potterville and John Curtis of Olivet.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Curtis in 1996.
Services were held at Pray Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Royston officiating. Interment was in Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township.
Diane Cutting
Diane Lynn Cutting, 47, of Charlotte, died Jan. 15, 1999 following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Cutting was born Sept. 5, 1951 the daughter of Francis and Nettie (Lea) Baum in Battle Creek. She married Charles Cutting on Nov. 21, 1970. They are members of Ainger Bible Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; two daughters, Carrie (Jeff) Perry of Grand Rapids and Tina (Richard) Laiz of Riverdale, N.Y.; one grandson, Robert Perry; two sisters, Joyce (Stewart) Taylor of Charlotte and Denise Pfiester of Bellevue; three brothers, Harold Baum of Mason, Rex (Loraine) Baum and David (Judi) Baum both of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie in 1988 and her father, Francis in Oct. 1998.
Services were held Jan. 19 at the Ainger Bible Church with Pastor Scott Brood officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Eaton Rapids Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Harold Dalley
Harold Cyreanous Dalley, 87, of Charlotte, died Oct. 31, 1999.
Mr. Dalley was born May 12, 1912 in Marshall, the son of Scott and Lavina (Long) Dalley. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Greenawalt-Flaherty American Legion Post #42.
He is survived by three daughters, Iris (Frank) Barcato of Fla., Charlene Martin of Ind., and Alice (Bob) Francisco of Fla.; four sons, Barton (Janet) Dalley of Alto, Elwyn (Elsie) Dalley of Ind., Clifford Dalley of California, and Danny (Pamela) of Flint; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Parish).
Services were Nov. 3 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at Delta Center Cemetery in Delta Township.
Luella Damon
Luella Damon, 92, of Bellevue, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Mrs. Damon was born Jan. 31, 1907 in Battle Creek to Edward and Mattie (Smith) Hodges. She married John Damon in 1925; he died June 22, 1978. She was employed briefly in the packaging department at Kellogg’s and was a homemaker, raising seven children. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and story-telling. She especially enjoyed her family and feeding the wild birds and animals.
Surviving are her daughters, Betty Harrison of Bellevue, Susan (Paul) Coats of Battle Creek and Maxine (Donald) Collins of Charlotte; sons, Robert (Marion) Damon and John (Elaine) Damon of Bellevue, Kenneth (Shirley) Damon and Dennis (Rosie) Damon of Marshall; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Pauline Rugg of Bellevue and Rose Silvers of Mt. Pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son; brothers, Maurice and Marion Hodges; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held Aug. 24 at Shaw Funeral Home, Bellevue, with Pastor Stephen Covert officiating. Interment was at Newton Cemetery, Newton Twp.
