Leila Leifheit
Leila Ruth Leifheit, 90, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999 at the East Lansing Health Care Center.
Mrs. Leifheit was born Sept. 20, 1908 in West Unity, Ohio the daughter of Frank and Ella Mae (Aumock) Bowers. On June 5, 1943 she married Harlan Leifheit at the LaValley Church in Ionia County. She was a member of the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School for many years.
She is survived by her son, Jim (Jane) Shull of Lansing; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Laura Belle Bowers of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan on Nov. 7, 1991; a son, Keith Hoffman; three sisters; and two brothers.
Services were held Jan. 19 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel in Sunfield with the Rev. Donald Woolum of the Sebewa Center United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Tuttle Cemetery in Ionia.

Joyce Leik
Joyce (Hess) Leik, 70, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Charlotte (Roxand Township) died.
Mrs. Leik was born Dec. 26, 1928 in Lake Odessa, the daughter of Grover and Irene (Treadwell) Lantis.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; six stepchildren, Donald (Leilani) Leik of Mulliken, Connie, Evelyn and Roberta Leik, all of Charlotte, Sarah (Delbert) Dryer of Vermontville, and Carolyn (Steven) Wilson of Charlotte; eight step-grandchildren; one step great-granddaughter; one sister, Leatrice Bergman of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her previous husband, Charles Hess in 1978 and one brother, Melvin Lantis in 1994.
Services were Dec. 15 at the Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with the Rev. Fr. Robert McGraw officiating. Interment was in the Needmore Cemetery, Chester Township.
Edward Lenon
Edward John Lenon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, 64, of Lansing died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999.
Mr. Lenon was born Oct. 21, 1934 in Charlotte, the son of Lauren and Olga Lenon. He retired from the State of Michigan in 1988 after 34 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans and the Military Police Association.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elaine; daughters, Julie (Ronald) Moon of Lansing, Heidi (Gregory) Smith of Lansing; 11 grandchildren, Deana, David, Marlaina, Jared, Dakota, Quentin, Riley, Tucker, Ferris, Maverick and Ryhs; brother, Orville Teigeler of Port Huron and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bertha Jarvis; and brother, Lawrence Teigeler.
Funeral services were Jan. 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in Ft. Custer Cemetery in Battle Creek. Arrangements were prepared by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Jean Lerch
Jean Marie Lerch, 73, of Charlotte, died Sept. 18, 1999 at St. Lawrence Hospice House, Lansing.
Mrs. Lerch was born June 24, 1926 in Lansing, the daughter of Jacob and Louise (Powers) DenHerder. She was a member of the Gresham United Methodist Church and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed dancing and music and had been a bookkeeper at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Milton) Freeman of Hastings and Beverly Daniels of Eaton Rapids; two sons, James Lerch of Charlotte and Michael (Valerie) Lerch of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, George DenHerder of Avon Park, Fla.; and special friend, Buddy Wilton.
Services were Sept. 20 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Jeffrey Bowman officiating. Interment was in the Center Eaton Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Lawrence Hospice House.
Judith Lewis
Judith Anne (Montgomery) Lewis, 52, of Lancing, Tenn., died Sept. 15, 1999 in Crossville, Tenn.
Mrs. Lewis was born Sept. 21, 1946 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Martin and Louella (Finley) Montgomery. She had been a waitress at many different locations, including Theo’s of Lansing, Big Boy of Charlotte, and most recently, Cracker Barrel of Lansing and Crossville, Tenn. She loved working with people and meeting them through her work. She worked with humor and compassion. Since her retirement early this year, she devoted herself to gardening, crafts and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband, William; three sons, Ronald (Shelly) Thompson and Glen Scott Thompson of Charlotte, and Randy Thompson of Florida; her mother, Louella (Richard) Schock of Arizona; one sister, Carol (Keith) English of Arizona; one granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Thompson of Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Montgomery, and her daughter, Danika Sue Thompson.
Memorial services were Sept. 18 in Crossville, with an additional service and interment this Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Greene’s Cemetery, Belding.

Robert Louis
Robert S. Louis, 71, of Charlotte, died Wed., Feb. 10, 1999 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928 in Gladstone, the son of Silvester and Edna (Kautneu) Louis. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1993 after 43 years of service and was a member of the UAW Local #652. He was a member of the Detroit Rangers Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by five children; Pat (Fred) Matice of New Port Richey, Fla., Jerry (Diane) Danton of Covina, Calif., John (Delphine) Danton of Highland, Danny (Lynette) Danton of Holiday, Fla., Judy Preston of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline and Muriel; and four brothers, Melvin, Carl, John, and Myron.
Services were held Feb. 13 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens.

Lewis E. Love, Jr.
Lewis E. Love, Jr., age 71, died Saturday, October 23, 1999 in Lakeview. Lewis was born January 14, 1928 the son of Lewis E. and Mary Ellen (Hoover) Love. He was the owner and operator of Love’s Saw Mill, hauled grain, farmed and was an expert mechanic. Lewis was a an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and enjoyed wildlife.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Elsie M.; daughter, Carolyn Y. Hopcraft of Springport; 2 step daughters, Sandra Willis of Eaton Rapids and Wanda Hughes of Texas; 5 grandchildren, Dawn Witt, Gerri Jean and Joni Hopcraft, Chip and Christina Hughes; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Glen Arlo (Rose) of Eaton Rapids, Robert “Jack” Allen (Sharon) of Springport, Donald of Eaton Rapids and John Henry (Mitch) of Florida; sister, Vivian Louise (Harry) Wardius of Florida.
Funeral services were held on October 28, 1999 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with the Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in memory of Lewis Love, Jr.
Archie Lumbert Jr.
Archie Lumbert, Jr., 71, of Bostwick, Fla., formerly of Charlotte and Olivet, died May 13, 1999 at the Palatka Health Care Center, Palatka, Fla.
Mr. Lumbert was born in Clarksville, the son of Archie and Letha (Heaven) Lumbert Sr. He was a resident of the Charlotte area from 1959 until moving to Florida several years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran and employed by the Oldsmobile Division General Motors Corp., retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Local #1618 United Auto Workers.
He is survived by his wife, Marcie (Marcham), to whom he was married on March 26, 1965; two daughters, Virginia (Ron) Plockelman and Barbara (Gordon) Jerome, both of Reno, Nev.; three sons, Archie (Terry Bashore) III of Potterville, Peter (Nancy) of Gobles, and Steve (Lynda) of Olivet; four stepdaughters, Terri (Elmer) Anglemeyer of Waukarusa, Ind., Patricia Dunham of Yorba Linda, Calif., Brenda Sterley of Texas, and Denise Handziak of Decatur, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Tibbott of Salem, Ore.; and three brothers, Leroy of Schoolcraft, Ivan of Cadillac, and Ray of Traverse City.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Courtney Lynn Lumbert on July 14, 1989; one grandson, Josh Handziak of March 1, 1999; and one brother, Fred.
Services were May 18 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
