Arline VanTyle
Arline VanTyle, 74, of North Attleboro, Mass., formerly of Charlotte and Foxboro, Mass., died Sept. 1, 1999 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro.
Mrs. VanTyle was born Aug. 11, 1925 in Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of Marvin and Evelyn Foster. She lived most of her life in Illinois and had been a North Attleboro resident since 1979. She retired in 1987 from the Zayre Distribution Center in Mansfield, Mass., where she had been employed for seven years.
She is survived by three sons, Mike (Nola) of Charlotte; Mark (Michelle) of Palm Bay, Fla., and Patrick (Mary) of Sharon, Mass.; one sister, Geraldine Johnson of Elmhurst, Ill., two brothers, Robert (Doris) Foster of Streeter, Ill., and David Foster of Waldo, Wis.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services were Sept. 11 at the Oakwood Memorial Cemetery, Ottawa. Arrangements were made by the Sperry-McHoul Funeral Home, Attleboro.

Leopoldo “Leo” Vasquez
Leopoldo “Leo” Vasquez, age 46, of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, February 25, 1999 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was born September 28, 1953 in Plainwell, Michigan, the son of Henry and Carmen (Campos) Vasquez. Leo was a graduate of the Eaton Rapids High School Class of 1971 and served as a 1st Lieutenant for the United States Marines. He was a maintenance supervisor for FASCO D.C. Motors in Eaton Rapids with 27 years of service. Leo was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids and was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Surviving are his daughter, Salyna of Eaton Rapids; grandson, Triston Schultz; parents, Henry and Carmen Vasquez of Mexico; 5 sisters and 2 brothers, Maria (Terry) Dolan of Augusta, Hilda (George) Guiza of Mexico, Dawn Vasquez of Eaton Rapids, Gary (Irma) Vasquez of California, Geneva (George) Mock of Eaton Rapids, Linda (Paul) Vincent of Holt, and Jaime Vasquez of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 1st at St. Peter Church in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine and Rev. Fr. Cecilio Silguero as celebrants. Graveside services followed mass at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids where military graveside services were provided by the American Legion Harold Teeter Post #15, Eaton Rapids. Honorary bearers were Fred James, Amparo Gonzales, Bruce Wood, and Carlos Vasquez; active bearers were, Leon Johnson, Austin Lee, Ernie Kunkel, Tom Kunkel, Steve Gorham, and Kevin Stow. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Red Cross Mid-Michigan Chapter at 1800 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI in memory of Leo Vasquez. The family was served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Margaret L. Vincent
Margaret L. Vincent, age 88, died Sunday, October 31, 1999 in Charlotte. Margaret was born Oct. 2, 1911 in Hamlin Twp., the daughter of Eber Pearson and Lois Elizabeth (Conklin) Miller. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Vincent was preceded in death by her son, Donald (at his birth) and her brother, Robert Morse Miller.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara (Merrill) Bishir of Marion, IN; 2 sons, Douglas (Donna) Vincent of Muskegon, Richard (Beverly) Vincent of Eaton Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Gladys Dowding, Ella Brininstool both of Eaton Rapids, Madeline Coffey of Allendale, Jacqueline Harnes of Eaton Rapids; sister-in-law, Dorotha Miller of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 1999, 1 p.m., at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Dennis Perkins, Pastor of the Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Wesleyan Church Building Fund in memory of Margaret L. Vincent.
Ralph E. Vitale
Ralph E. Vitale of Newberry, formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 12, 1998 at his home in Newberry.
Mr. Vitale was the son of Sam Vitale of Charlotte and Winnie Vitale-Wood of Albion. He served in the Navy during World War II in the construction battalion known as the Seabees.
Memorial services were June 17 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
Leona Walker
Leona Walker, 94, of Charlotte died Nov. 15, 1999 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mrs. Walker was born Oct. 2, 1905, the daughter of Fred and Ida Smurr. She married Earl Walker Dec. 23, 1925. Her life was dedicated to her husband and family in a rural community life and she assisted with her grandchildren for years. She had also worked for several years with Charlotte Public School’s food service. She enjoyed her involvement with Eaton County Extension and Eaton County Farm Bureau activities, the Owls Dance Club, Pedro Club, and recently, Charlotte senior citizen activities and the fellowship at Kiwanis Manor.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley (John) VanAuker, Joyce Johnson, and Donna W. (Richard D.) Johnson; one son, Larry (Roxie); 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and friend and sister-in-law, Mildred Sumerix-Smurr.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1964; one granddaughter, Trina Walker in 1997; and one brother, Elston Smurr in 1988.
Services were Nov. 18 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Peter Brenner officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Charlotte City Parks Beautification Fund.
Marjorie Walker
Marjorie F. (Williamson) Walker, died March 16, 1999 at the Tendercare South Nursing Home, Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Walker was born in Bellevue, the daughter of Howard and Bertha (Scott) Williamson and was a lifelong Eaton County resident. She was a graduate of Olivet High School, member of the First Congregational Church, Charlotte, and had been a member of the Southside Mothers’ Club. She enjoyed babysitting, which she did for many years in the Charlotte area. Several years ago she had worked for the former Jerrold’s Clothing Store in Charlotte.
She married Harry V. Walker Nov. 6, 1943.
She was preceded by her husband, Harry Nov. 24, 1997.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Harter of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one son, Larry Walker of Holt; and five grandchildren.
Services were March 19, 1999 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. Peter R.K. Brenner officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Irene Walkinshaw
Irene Z. Walkinshaw, 88, of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Bellevue, died Oct. 19, 1999 at DeSoto Memorial Hospital, Arcadia.
Mrs. Walkinshaw was born June 25, 1911 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Elton and Maude (Phillips) Miller. She was employed at Post Division, Kraft General Foods, as a packer for 30 years, retiring in 1976. She married C. Gerald Walkinshaw July 5, 1954 in Battle Creek. She was a former member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church and had lived in Florida since 1978. She is survived by five daughters, Bernice Eastman of Big Fork, Mont., Jean Blanchard of Seattle, Wash., Mabel Allman of South Carolina, Wanda Hills of Olivet, and Wava Kilgore of Battle Creek; and two sons, Galen of Arcadia and Burrell of Deltona, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Gerald in 1983.
Services were Oct. 22 at the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Richard Wallace
Richard Wayne Wallace, 81, of Olivet died June 9, 1999 at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
Mr. Wallace was born March 13, 1918 in Bedford, the son of Seward and Myrtle (Kidd) Wallace and had been an Olivet resident since 1972. He is a descendant of Thomas B. Hinchman and Samuel Wallace, two early pioneers of Michigan in the late 1830’s. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1936 and attended Michigan State University, then known as Michigan State College, for two years. He was a dairy farmer and produce grower on the family farm north of Bedford and employed at Post Cereals for 12 years. He had also been a salesman for the Mooreman Manufacturing Co., Quincy, Ill. for 18 years until his retirement in 1983. He married Agnes (Kohlhoff) Sept. 9, 1945, and she died Aug. 14, 1967. He married Margaret (Bidlack) Wilcox Oct. 1, 1968. He was active in the 4-H Club as a teen and later judged livestock at county fairs in Michigan. He was a member of the Grange and active member of the Olivet Lions Club and Olivet Congregational Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one daughter, Karen Wallace Stuckman of Milan; one son, Michael of Buffalo, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Lee in May 1998.
Services today, Sunday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church with the Rev. Clark Hock officiating. Interment is in the Bedford Cemetery, Bedford. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
