Glenn H. Webb
Glenn W. Webb, age 81, of Galesburg formerly of Eaton Rapids died Sunday, February 7, 1999 in Kalamazoo. Born February 14, 1917 in Loda, Illinois, the son of Orville and Folena (Johnson) Webb. Mr. Webb was a retired maintenance technician with Union Camp Paper Co. in Kalamazoo and a life member of the F&AM Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids. Preceding him in death are a daughter, Linda Speer in 1997 and a sister Phyllis Webb in 1939.
Surviving are his wife Betty; 2 sons, Mike (Patty) Webb of Fort Wayne, IN and Gary (Luann Osborne) Webb of Kalamazoo; son-in-law, Dawn Speer of Springport; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Colleen) Webb of Eaton Rapids and sister, Patricia (Robert) DeGeus of Coopersville, MI; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 10th at 1 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Marty DeBoe of the Robbins United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring a memorial contribution may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Glenn H. Webb.
Dick Weiler
Dick Robert Weiler, 69, of Vermontville died Dec. 15, 1999.
Mr. Weiler was born Dec. 20, 1929 in Vermontville, the son of Karl and Alma (Radde) Weiler. He had lived in the same Vermontville home for 65 years. He had been a farmer; school bus driver for Vermontville; had worked at Universal Crane in Battle Creek and both Aluminum Extrusions and Charles Viele Bulldozing, both of Charlotte. He enjoyed snowmobiling and owned a vacation home in Cadillac. He loved his family, friends, music and life.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; two daughters, Susan Blowers of Lansing and Nancy Weiler of Carroll Valley, Penn.; one son, Nyle of Vermontville; and three grandchildren, Zachary Weiler and Joshua and Courtney Blowers.
Services were Dec. 18 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Eric Lison officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Memorial Scholarship Fund, Eaton Community Hospice, or National Parkinson’s Foundation.
Esther Welch
Esther L. Welch, 64, of Charlotte, died Dec. 21, 1998 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, as the result of an auto accident in Potterville.
Mrs. Welch was born in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Dena (Vennenga) DeBeer and had been a Charlotte resident since 1977. She was a 1952 graduate of Ocheyedan High School in Iowa and was a member of the First Lutheran Church and its Elizabeth Guild in Charlotte.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, to whom she was married Sept. 21, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa; one son, Robert (Sherry) of Lansing; one sister, Betty Eckhart of Boone, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Andringa Funeral Home, Sibley, Iowa. Interment was in the Little Rock Cemetery, Little Rock, Iowa. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Eunice Wells
Eunice Jane Wells, 76, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999.
Mrs. Wells was born on March 13, 1922 in Dobbs Ferry, NY, the daughter of Grover and Mable Riddle. She was a member of the Charlotte Eagles FOE #3552 and Nashville VFW Post #8260.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie; children, Karen (Richard) Watson of Camp Hill, Penn., Donis (Larry) Osborn of Charlotte and Gary (Kathleen) Wells of Kentwood; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean (Ed) Oberlin; and a brother, George Riddle of Charlotte.
Services were held Feb. 8 at Pray Funeral Home, in Charlotte, with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.
Crystal Wheaton
Crystal Mae Wheaton, 82, of Charlotte, died Jan. 28, 1999 in Tampa, FL.
Mrs. Wheaton was born June 22, 1916 in Montcalm County, the daughter of Frank and Leona (Foster) Coleman. She was a 4-H Club leader, a cook at Charlotte Public Schools and active in the Eaton County Farm Bureau and District Farm Bureau.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, H. Verness; 1 son, Leland (Denise); 2 daughters, LuAnn (Joseph) Stachnik, Linda (Barry) Stuart all of Charlotte; 3 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Dorothy Halsey of Ft. Pierce, Florida.
Predeceased by her brother Clayton Coleman. Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 at Pray Funeral Home. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Elois Wheaton
Elois E. Wheaton, 80, of Vermontville, died Jan. 8, 1999 at her Sunfield Township home following a long illness.
Mrs. Wheaton was born in the same house Nov. 16, 1918, the daughter of E. Clifford and Elsie (Childs) Bosworth. She was a member of the West Sebewa Church of Christ and Bismark Extension.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne; one daughter, Valrie (Jay) Burrow of Shelby; two sons, Winston of Stanton and Wendell (Ann) of Grandville; eight grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
Services were Jan. 13 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Virgil McNeil officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery.
H. Verness Wheaton
H. Verness Wheaton, 90, of Charlotte, died June 13, 1999 in Lansing.
Mr. Wheaton was born Feb. 7, 1909 in Eaton County, the son of Hartley and Edythe (Parr) Wheaton. He was a former Chester Township Supervisor and Eaton County Commissioner, member of Masonic Lodge #120 F&AM, Eaton County Farm Bureau, past president of the National Oxford Sheep Association, and Michigan Sheep Breeders’ Association. He showed sheep throughout the state and at the Michigan State Fair for over 60 years. He was also a recipient of the Michigan Sheep Industry Service Award.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Barry) Stuart and LuAnn (Joe) Stachnik, both of Charlotte; one son, Leland (Denise); three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Crystal (Coleman), one brother, and two sisters.
Services were June 16 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County 4-H Fair Livestock Building Fund.
Lizzie (Lafferty) Whitaker
Lizzie (Lafferty) Whitaker, age 85, went peacefully to our Lord on Monday, March 8, 1999. She was born May 28, 1913 to Mary and John Lafferty in Prestonsburg, KY. Mrs. Whitaker moved to Springport with her husband, Lum Whitaker, in the mid 1940’s and was a life-long homemaker. Lizzie’s love on the farm was raising cows, chickens, pigs, and gardening with Lum. People would probably remember her as the lady who sold milk, eggs, and fresh churned butter. Lum passed away in 1984 and Lizzie just kept doing what they’d always done together until she was no longer able. She also had a dear companion, Fred Talbot. He was a good friend and helped care for her until his passing in 1997. Lizzie deeply appreciated her neighbors, Dick and CJ Halsey and Gary and Sandy Halsey for their loving assistance in maintaining her lifestyle over the past few years. Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Hall and Bernice Robinson.
Surviving are 2 sisters, Gracie Robinson and Fanny Mae Derossett; brother-in-law, Harmon Robinson and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Lawrence Arnett, Pastor of the Calvary Grace Church officiating. Interment followed at Springport Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ronald Gene Robinson, Lum Evert Robinson, John Franklin Derossett, Bart Lee Derossett, Gary Halsey and Dick Halsey. Honorary bearers were Vernon Mulkey, Ron Robinson and Cam Robinson.
Joseph Henry Williams
Joseph Henry Williams, age 60, of Charlotte, died Saturday, August 16, 1999. Mr. Williams was born July 11, 1939 in Eaton Rapids the son of Joseph H. and Margaret (Watson) Williams, Sr. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph H. Williams, Sr. and by his grandson, Brody Williams in 1994. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ingham Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Reeves; sons, Dale Rathbun, Kevin Rathbun, Jeff Williams and Matt (Debbie) Williams; daughter, Terri Rathbun; step-sons, Brendon (Jodi) Reeves and Zachary (Jessica) Reeves; step-daughters, Norma (Michael) Hancock and Patricia (Douglas) Reynolds; 20 grandchildren; mother, Margaret Keeler; brother, Gary (LuAnn) Williams; sisters, Linda Caudill and Carol (Melvin) Dryer; step-brother, Robert (Dory) Keeler; step-sisters, JoAnn (Bruce) Gage and Jean (Dick) Brown; 11 nieces and nephews and special friend, Maurice Randall.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at Pray Funeral Home with Elder David Brown officiating. Interment was at Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
