Geraldine Whitney
Geraldine Whitney, 84, of Tamarac, formerly of Ludington, Stanton, and Charlotte, died Aug. 26, 1999 at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Whitney was born Jan. 31, 1915 in Portland, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Hanson) Reed. She married Paul Whitney Sr. Nov. 3, 1933 in Portland. She was a nurse for many years, first in Charlotte, then in Sheridan, retiring in the late 1980s. She was a member of Nevins Lake Church of Stanton and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening in her spare time. She loved her dog, Peppy.
She is survived by two daughters, Muirlyene (Gil) Hayward of Hudson, Fla., and Carol (Joe) Cain of Ludington; one son, Paul (Phyllis) Jr. of Mears; one sister, Loretta Jacott of Palm Harbor, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, Dec. 14, 1988; her parents; and twin brothers, Fred and Frank Reed.
Services were Aug. 29 at Nevins Lake Church with the Rev. Bob Goodenough officiating. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Stanton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan for Mason County.
Robert Whitney
Robert C. Whitney, 64, of Bellevue, died Jan. 9, 1999.
Mr. Whitney was born Dec. 31, 1934 in Dimondale, the son of Sylvester and Vera May (Getter) Whitney.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Sprague); three sons, Michael of South Haven, Jerry of Bellevue and Erick of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Michael Whitney Jr. and Angela Whitney; four sisters, Orpha (Carl) Hayden, Verda (Phil) Nightengale, Maxine (Earl) Cady, and Gloria Hickox, all of Potterville; one brother, Russell (Mary Lou) of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Wayne, and his parents, Sylvester and Vera May Whitney.
Services were Jan. 13 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dale Nye officiating. Interment was in Needmore Cemetery, Eaton County.
Dean Widrig
Dean Widrig, 74, formerly of Charlotte, died July 24, 1999 in Fullerton, Calif., following an extended illness.
Mr. Widrig was born July 31, 1924 in Charlotte, the son of Robert and Ethel Widrig. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Engineering in 1950 and retired from Hunt-Wesson Foods of Fullerton in 1989 as chief engineer in the Tomato Products Division. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. Andrews in Fullerton, Charlotte American Legion Post #42, and a life member of the professional society IEEE, Inc. Since retiring from Hunt-Wesson, he was active in community affairs for the city of Fullerton and the Fullerton Arboretum where he spent several days a week volunteering.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Campbell); two sons, David (Virginia) of Brea, Calif., and James (Kristie) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Traver and Genevieve; and one brother, George of Gladwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Charles.
Memorial services were held at the Episcopal Church of St. Andrews, Fullerton, Aug. 2. Interment was in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Nora Wight
Nora Wight, 90, of Bellevue, died Monday, Aug. 2 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Wight was born Jan. 3, 1909 in Eaton County to Byrd and Clara (Lawrence) Wood.
She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1926. She married Paul Wight on April 20, 1929 in Bellevue; he died in 1970. She was employed by Post Cereal Division of General Foods for 28 years, retiring in 1973.
She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Post 25-Year Club and Ainger Bible Church of Olivet.
Surviving are sons, Burrell, Dale and Paul Wight, Jr. of Bellevue; daughters, Dolores Ford of Hammond, Wis., Virginia Wight, Peggy Jones and Sally Wight of Bellevue; Phyllis Waltman of Battle Creek; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nellie Quiter of Coldwater, Ina Perry of Grawn, Kathryn Augustine of Nashville and Barbara Bender of Quincy.
She was preceded in death by a son, Reuben Wight in 1989; one grandchild; and five brothers.
Services were held Aug. 5 at Ainger Bible Church, Olivet, with Pastor Scott Brood officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Richard Wilkes
Richard Wilkes, 67, of Grand Ledge died March 30, 1999 at his residence.
Mr. Wilkes was born May 6, 1931 in Lansing, the son of Harold and Segrid (Wollpert) Wilkes. He was a 1951 graduate of Lansing Sexton High School and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was active in the Boy Scouts, 4-H and was a former leader of the Double-M Riders, as well as avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by one daughter, Kris (Vance) Buchholz of Charlotte; three sons, Mark (Dennice) Traverse City, Randy (Jackie) of Grand Ledge, and Brian (Mary) of Charlotte; three brothers, Arthur (Louise) of Traverse City, Gordon (Betty) of Irons, and Harold Jr. of DeWitt; one sister-in-law, Saralyn Stratton of East Lansing; one brother-in-law, Jim (Helen) Murphy of Inverness, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Betty Traen of Ionia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia in 1992.
Services were April 3 at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Nunham officiating. Interment was at the Union Cemetery, Oneida Township. Arrangements were made by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.
Von Wilkinson
Von A. Wilkinson, 87, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Charlotte died Feb. 28, 1999.
Mr. Wilkinson was born in Charlotte and retired as an officer with Tecumseh Manufacturing. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Naples; Mooring Country Club; and Kiwanis.
He is survived by his second wife, Mildred; one sister, Mildred May of Williamston; one sister-in-law, Ruth (Edman) Grier of Charlotte; one son-in-law, Dale Behnke of Houston, Texas; one brother-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Bryan of Hastings; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beryl in 1991; one son, Norval; and one daughter, Gayle Behnke.
Services were March 5 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

John Williams
John Christopher Williams, 29, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998.
Mr. Williams was born in Big Rapids, lived in Charlotte a major portion of his childhood and all of his adult life. He worked at Franchino Molds on Grand River in Lansing. He was known as “Starman” and was a member of the Thunder Knights Motorcycle Club. He participated in numerous fund raisers yearly with the club, Toys for Tots, etc.
He is survived by his wife, Lori; daughter, Raechelle Lavender; son, Shawn Michael; step-son, Scott Powell; mother, Kathleen Samuelson of Charlotte; father, Thomas (Vicki) Williams of Holt; brothers, James of Hawaii, Jeffrey (Teresa) of Stanton; step-brother, Richard Williams of Georgia; step-sister, Amanda Smith of Holt; grandmother, Libbie Williams of Calif.; step-grandmother, Virgie Williams of Tenn.; three nephews, Jonathon, Justin and Jacob; club brothers, John (Marilyn) McDermitt, Rex (Judy) VanGuilder, Rick (Krista) Butler, Mick (Jamie) Benbow, Jim Bastian, Jim (Tina) Carr and Troy Burton.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Sally Bogart; and a step-brother, Thomas Jr.
Services were held Dec. 28 at the Pray Funeral Home with Chaplain David Voorhees and the Rev. Charles O’Hearn officiating. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.
