Paul Boatman
Paul Boatman, age 74, passed away on May 2, 1998, at his home in South Lyon, MI. He was born May 16, 1923. He was a retired power house engineer from Maxey Training School and a WWII Navy Veteran. He was born and raised in Eaton Rapids, MI.
Surviving are his wife Vonda; children, Joann Case, Michael (Nancy), Debra (James) Fader, David (Karen), James, Daniel, Donald (Theresa), Lisa (James) Brunette; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Phyllis (Norman) Tyer and Shirley Stoltz.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at 10:00 a.m., at the O’Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI. Burial will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
Leonard R. Bodell
Leonard R. Bodell, age 73, of Vermontville, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his residence following a long illness.
Born April 19, 1925 in Eaton County, the son of Roy Edward and Florence Anne (Alwood) Bodell. Mr. Bodell had worked for Johnson Iron in Charlotte and had retired from Norco Windows in Marenisco, Mich. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren fishing. He spent many years at his residence at Lake Gogebic and in 1997, due to health, moved back to the area.
Preceding him in death was a daughter, Anna May Bodell; and four brothers, Donald Sheets, Gerald Bodell, Robert Bodell and Thomas Bodell.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Evelyn; five children, Larry (Verna) Bodell of Charlotte, Judith (Stephen) Turner of Eaton Rapids, Dennis (Sandra) Bodell of Eaton Rapids, Marian (Gregory) McClellan of Goodrich, and Roy (Judy) Bodell of Eaton Rapids; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Norma Jones of Charlotte, Athol (Lewis) Wood of Eaton Rapids, Verle Barnard of Charlotte, Marilyn Peters of Eaton Rapids, Marlene (Robert) Coffin of Ithaca, Bonnie (David) Springs of Charlotte and Janet Klaiss of Charlotte; two brothers, John Bodell of Lansing and Clyde (Marge) Bodell of Charlotte; mother-in-law, Edith Hodges of Cedarville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, June 15, at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Stephen Klink of the Community Christian Church officiating. Graveside services followed at the Brickyard Cemetery in rural Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers were Phil Sheets, Jack Cahill, Darwyn Jones, Terry Ward, Leroy Davis, Leon Wood, Daniel Wood and Richard Elcoate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.
Louis E. Bosworth
Louis E. Bosworth, 87, of Portland passed away Dec. 31, 1997, in Lansing.
Mr. Bosworth was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Roxand Township, the son of William and Jessie (Bale) Bosworth. He farmed in the Charlotte area until the early 1940’s, and then went to work in Lansing ending up at Motor Wheel in 1944. He retired from Motor Wheel after 27 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Valeta (Guy), two sons, Ned (Katherine) Bosworth and Mac (Barbara) Bosworth; two daughters, Doris (Harold) Swartz and Carolyn Joseph Quick; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lyle Bosworth of Florida.
Services were Jan. 2 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. George Speas officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery.

Wayne D. Bradford
Wayne D. Bradford, age 88, life resident of Eaton Rapids died Tuesday, July 7, 1998. Mr. Bradford was born April 11, 1910 in Hamlin Township the son of George H. and Maude (Matthias) Bradford. He was retired from Aeroquip Corp. and a retired farmer. He was an Army Veteran of World War II who fought at the “Battle of the Bulge”. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids and a member of the NRA. Mr. Bradford enjoyed nature, farming and hunting and was known for always having a pot of coffee on the stove for his friends. He was preceded in death his wives, Mildred and Dorothy; and stepson, Duane Rosenbrook.
Surviving are his three stepchildren, David Halsey of Eaton Rapids, Donald Halsey of Springport and Sue (Keith) Hiatt of Eaton Rapids; nine step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Dr. Allen S. Malcolm of the First Congregational Church officiating. Casket bearers were Keith Hiatt, Kirk Hiatt, Andrew Weaver, Cleo Parks, Colin Parks and Timothy Kikendall. The family was served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Viola E. Bradway
Viola E. Bradway, 79, of Bellevue died April 5, 1998 in the Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Bradway was born May 21, 1918 in Ann Arbor to Fred and Myrtle (Ryan) Mortimer. She was employed by Kellogg Co. for 31 years as a line tender before retiring in 1980. She married Lewis Bradway on Jan. 31, 1994. She was a member of the Kellogg’s 25 Year Club, North Avenue Church of God and the Women of the Church of God Missionary Guild. She was past member of the Calhoun County Cooperative Extension Galloping Gals Division.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis; one daughter, Barbara Madry of Bellevue; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl Wofford of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Mortimer.
Services were April 10 at the North Avenue Church of God. Arrangements were made by the Royal Funeral Home.

Florence J. Brandt
Florence J. Brandt, 72, of Battle Creek died Jan. 3, 1998, at the Battle Creek Health System following a long illness.
Mrs. Brandt was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Grayling, the daughter of Moses and Ida (Roop) Collins. She graduated from Grayling High School. She has been a resident of the area since 1943. She married Marvin J. Brandt July 25, 1953 in Angola, Ind. Mrs. Brandt had been a homemaker; prior employment included the Corset Factory in Marshall, Marshall Laundry, and the Kellogg Company. She was a member of the Dexter Lake Church of God, the Calhoun County Horse Breeders Association, and the Yesteryears Tractor Club.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin; three sons, William Katz of Ekron, Ken., Michael Brandt and Douglas Brandt both of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan Hoffman of Marshall.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Edith Palmateer.
Services were Jan. 5 at the Craig K. Kempt Funeral Home with the Pastor Hurbert L. Rayburn. Interment followed in Lyon Lake Cemetery.
Frank Brandt
Frank Brandt, 83, of Charlotte died Oct. 24, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mr. Brandt was born in Misawaka, Ind., the son of Vital and Leontina Brandt. He was a farmer and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl; four daughters, Mary (Marvin) Davis of Mulliken, Judy Hansen of Marshall, and Ann Marie (Dan) Martens and Teresa Hammond, both of Charlotte; three sons, Frank Jr. (Corrine) of Potterville, Floyd (Connie) of Charlotte; and John (Sussie) of Potterville; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Victor Joseph Brandt.
Services were Oct. 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment was in Benton Township Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Shirley Williams Bridwell
Shirley Williams Bridwell, 72, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Charlotte, died Sept. 12, 1998 in Arizona.
Mrs. Bridwell was born in Alton, Ill. She was a homemaker and member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Sun City, Ariz.; two daughters, Nancy Williams of Plymouth and Gwenda Rouhier of Plano, Texas; one stepdaughter, Darla Caldwell of Warden, Ill.; two sons, Kirby Williams of Albuquerque, NM; and Charles Williams of Waco, Texas; two stepsons, Richard Bridwell of Ballwin, MO and Gregory Bridwell of Zion, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Hall, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and Jean Mitchell of Alton, Ill.
Services were Sept. 16 at the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City, Ariz. Arrangements were made by Sunland Mortuary and Cremation Center, Sun City, Ariz.
