Adina Yerkes
Adina Yerkes, 90, of Charlotte died Feb. 15, 1998 at her home. She had been cared for by her granddaughter, Belinda.
Mrs. Yerkes was born March 29, 1907, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John and Emma (Neilson) Seurbom. She was a member of the Northwest Carmel Congregational Church and the First Congregational Church in Charlotte. She enjoyed crafts and gardening.
She is survived by her son, William (Carol) Yerkes of Charlotte; daughter, Shelby J. Rowan of Bryan, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur Seurbom of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Yerkes.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.
Geneva Young
Geneva (Flick, Lewis) Young, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep June 23, 1998, after a long illness.
A native of Ohio, she graduated from Kent State College, taught in the Ohio school system, and married the Rev. E. Lewis. After his death, she and a stepson, Robert Lewis, moved to Michigan. She became a social worker in the Macomb and Eaton County areas, and moved to Charlotte. She married J.P. Young in 1952. After his death, she remained in Charlotte until moving to a Delaware retirement center several years ago.
Surviving are stepson Everett (Irene) Young; stepdaughter, Ellen (Vaughn) Hill; step grandchildren, Kathleen (Kim) Snyder and Everett (Pamela) Hill; and stepson, Robert Lewis in Florida. The Hill and Snyder families reside in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. She also is survived by great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews in Florida and Ohio. Louise (Jim) Hogan preceded her in death two years ago.
Mrs. Young was a longstanding member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, its choir, and Deborah Circle. She also was a member of the Business Women’s Guild.
Memorial services and burial were at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1502 W. 13th St., Wilmington, Del., 19806. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made there or to Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church here.
A chapel memorial will be July 10 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.
Julia (Patrick) Young
Julia (Patrick) Young, 92, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died March 1, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Young was born in Perry County, Ken., the daughter of Hamilton Kearny and Genoa Bell (Haney) Patrick. She moved to the Charlotte/Lansing area in 1943 and had been a Lansing resident for over 36 years. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Lansing.
She is survived by six sons, Carl (Doris) Young of Charlotte, Rev. Cline (Joan) Young of Lansing, Claude (Ollie) Young of Charlotte, Jim (Sue) Young of Holt, Clyde Young of Lansing and Harlan (Sharon) Young, Jr. of Charlotte; four daughters, Lena Peterson and Margaret Ewing both of Charlotte, Pat (Jerry) Staley of Carson City and Virginia (Melvin) Gosnell of Grand Ledge; 32 grandchildren; and over 70 great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillie Campbell of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Young.
Services were March 4 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was in Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken.

Robert E. Young
Robert E. Young, 83, of Jackson, formerly of Olivet and Nashville, died June 7, 1998, at his residence after a long illness.
Mr. Young was born in Portland, Ore., the son of Elmer and Nina (Hicks) Young. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a life member of the Nashville Lodge 255 F&AM, VFW Post 8260 in Nashville and a former 1OOF member. He married Winifred Rennard on Jan. 6, 1944, in Skipton, Yorkshire, England.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred; two sons, Robert A. Young of Romulus and James E. Young of Munith; one daughter, Martha A. Wolfe of Wayne; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Harrington of Marshall and Esther (Stanley) Horn of Charlotte; and one brother, Earl “Mike” Young of Springport.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald E. Young; and two brothers, Joseph Young and William Young.
Services were June 11 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Ethel Stears officiating. Interment was in Lee Center Cemetery.

Melvin C. Yerxa
Melvin C. Yerxa, age 67, of Mecosta, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, September 11, 1998. Born February 20, 1931, in Detroit the youngest of 5 children born to Guy and Esther (Lettlefield) Yerxa. Mel was a member of the Michigan National Guard and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Joyce Twichell during his military career at Ft. Gordon, Georgia and on September 1st of this year celebrated 47 years of marriage. Mel retired from General Motors in Lansing after 30 years of service and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #652 of Lansing. Upon retirement they moved to their home in Mescosta and had lived there 12 years. After retirement he was active in Square Dancing, joining the Chippewa Chiefs & Squaws Square Dancing Club, an accomplished woodworker and musician who loved hunting and fishing and had a Jewelry Business setting and cutting stones he had found along his many travels. Preceding him in death are his parents and 4 siblings, LeRoy, Felton and Phillip Yerxa and Florence Hunter.
Surviving are his wife Joyce; son, Steven (Rose) Yerxa of Lynnville, TN; and daughter, Pam (Ron) Morrow of Girard, IL; 8 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Yerxa of Eaton Rapids, brother-in-law, Floyd Hunter of Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 15th at 1:00 p.m. from Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Marty DeBow of the Robbins United Methodist Church officiating. Interment to follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers are Steven Yerxa, Ron Morrow, William Morrow, Joe Yerxa, Dick Taylor and Jason Burgess, honorary bearers are, Steven Morrow and Cecil Burgess. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association, 271 Woodland Pass, Suite 110, East Lansing MI 48823-2060 in memory of Melvin C. Yerxa.
Richard Zeis
Richard Zeis, 62, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Charlotte, died Oct. 26, 1998. Mr. Zeis was born March 1, 1936 the son of Ralph and Clara Zeis.
He is survived by his wife, Stella; three children and three grandchildren, all of Amarillo; a sister, Helen Albin and a niece, Judy Liepins of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dora Mitchell and Dorothy Versluis Blain; and a brother, Lester.
Services were held in Amarillo, Texas, Oct. 30, 1998.
Donald Zimmer
Donald E. Zimmer, 58, of Charlotte, died Dec. 21, 1998 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Zimmer was born in Ypsilanti, the son of Chester and Wanda (Bartuzal) Zimmer and has been a Charlotte resident since 1967 coming from Lansing. He was a self-employed attorney and involved in private law practice in Charlotte since 1966. He was a 1958 graduate of Belleville High School, 1962 graduate of Michigan State University, 1965 graduate of Wayne State University Law School, and was a Michigan Supreme Court Law Clerk for Justice Harry Kelley from 1965-66. He was also an assistant Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney from 1966-68 and elected the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney, serving from 1968-72. He was a member and past president of both the Eaton County Bar Association and Michigan Tree Farm Association.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Robson); two daughters, Gwendolyn (Dr. David) Freestone of Ithaca and Jennifer Zimmer of Battle Creek; one son, Donald (Beth) of Vancouver, British Columbia; one grandson, Caleb Freestone; his mother, Wanda Zimmer of Belleville; two brothers, Robert (Helen) of Burt Lake and Richard (Lillian) of Belleville; and one sister, Treva (Tim) Bazzett of Odenton, MD. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Zimmer.
Services were Dec. 24 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Z. William Colson, Judge Thomas Eveland and Attorney William Davis officiating. Interment was in the Tyler Cemetery, Belleville.

Sheila Zimmer
Sheila M. Zimmer, 53, of Maumee St. Jonesville, MI, died Wednesday, October 28, 1998, at her home. She was born November 25, 1944, in Charlotte, MI, to Lemel H. and Clarise E. (Lipsey) Rhodes. Sheila graduated from Charlotte High School and Central Michigan University. On August 24, 1968, she married Richard J. Zimmer in Marne, MI, and her survives. Sheila retired from teaching after many years, at the Emily Williams Elementary School in Jonesville. She was also a member of the Delta Capa Gama Retired Teachers Association. In addition to her husband Richard, she is survived by one daughter, Katrina Bower and her husband Craig of Jonesville, MI, one son, Nicolaus Zimmer and his wife Skarleth of Honduras, one sister, Judy Silvis and her husband Don of Lowell, MI, one brother, David Rhodes and his wife Barbara of Charlotte, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31, 1998, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Jonesville, with Rev. Nelson Ray & Rev. Riva Hawke officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Hillsdale or the American Cancer Society.
