Robert F. Elston
Robert F. Elston, 82, of Eaton Rapids died Feb. 4, 1998 in Charlotte.
Mr. Elston was born April 14, 1915, in Holt, the son of Franklin and Rosetta (Norris) Elston. He attended the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church and retired from Fisher Body in 1976 after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hilda I.; three daughters, Brenda Elston, Janice (Bert) Place, and Linda “Cook” (Gary) Brininstool all of Eaton Rapids; two sons, Herman Elston of Barryton and Bruce (Shirley) Elston of Eaton Rapids; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Agnes Holloway of Eaton Rapids and Myrtle (Fritz) Hinkle of Olivet.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas, Sr. and Jerry W. Elston.
Services were Feb. 7 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Joyce Harriet Esch
Joyce Harriet Esch, 90, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Charlotte, died June 7, 1998, at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Mrs. Esch was born Aug. 7, 1907, in Union City, the daughter of Frank and Ora Ashley. She married Leo Fredrick Esch on Sept. 3, 1930. They owned and operated Charlotte Appliance for 30 years, until 1979. She was a member of the Charlotte First Congregational Church, U.C.C.; Order of the Eastern Star 413.
She is survived by two sons, Francis (Sandy) Esch of Haverhill, Mass., and John W. (Barbara) Esch of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Karen (Rod) Rambadt of Allegan; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo.
Services were June 11 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Peter R. K. Brenner officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Alberta Bebee Eschtruth
Alberta Bebee Eschtruth of Dimondale, age 81, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center. Alberta was born August 16, 1916 in Lansing, the daughter of Frank Benjamin and Bertha (Rost) Wing. She lived in the area most of her life and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dimondale. Alberta retired from the Michigan School for the Blind in 1969. she was preceded in death by her husbands, Grant Lee Bebee in 1955, William Eschtruth in 1991; and her grandson, Michael Shooltz in 1984.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Virginia (William) Shooltz, Suzanne (Roger) Potter all of Eaton Rapids, Elaine Breininger of MN; 1 son, Stuart (Melody) Eschtruth of Eaton Rapids; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 22, 1998, at 11:00 a.m., at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing.
James Edwin Fairchild
James Edwin Fairchild, 80, of Harrison, formerly of Charlotte, died July 14, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Fairchild was born April 15, 1918, in Mio, Mich., the son of Harley Edward and Myrtle Ion (Snyder) Fairchild. He served in the army during World War II and retired as a line repairman for Oldsmobile. During that time, he was a UAW committeeman for 21 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1075 in Harrison and a member of UAW Retirees.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles, in 1953.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Fairchild of Harrison and Mary Fairchild Kitchen of Goetzville, Mich.; two grandchildren, Brent Earls and Shannon Earls; and sister, Marjorie (Harry) Bell of Charlotte.
Funeral services were July 17 at Pray Funeral Home with the Rev. Z. William Colson officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Gaylord Fassett
L. “Esther” Fassett, 90, and her son, Gaylord, 59, died Oct. 23, 1998, the same hour.
Esther died Oct. 23, 1998, after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 11, 1908, the daughter of Jasper and Emma (Rusk) Doty and was an elementary school teacher, having retired with 33 years of teaching. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte, and its Naomi circle, the Eaton County Historical society, Eaton County Retired Teachers Association, Eaton Rapids Retired Teachers, Greater Lansing Doll Club, American Bell Association, Eaton Antique Club, and Eaton Art League.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Kem) Charboneau of Pinckney; one son, Gary of Clancy, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Fassett in 1971.
Gaylord was born Nov. 1, 1938, the son of Floyd and L. Esther (Doty) Fassett. He was a 1956 graduate of Charlotte High School, a member of the Travel Trailer Club of Midwest, Appaloosa Horse Club, was a former Boy Scout and 4-H leader, and had coached Little League Baseball. He was a self-employed, licenses electrician and had worked at Motor Wheel Corp. for 22 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Denise Olson of Charlotte; two sons, Jeffrey of Vermontville and Bryan of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Joel and Lacey Fassett, Erica and Jenessa Olson, and Austin, Kevin and Stacey Fassett; one sister, Marilyn (Kem) Charboneau of Pinckney; and one brother, Gary of Clancy, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd in 1971, his wife, Gloria on Jan. 26, 1998, and his mother, Esther on Oct. 23, 1998.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
Services were held Oct. 28 at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment for Mrs. Fassett was at Barryville Cemetery. Interment for Mr. Fassett was at West Carmel Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home and Burkhead-Green Funeral Home both in Charlotte.
Gloria J. Fassett
Gloria J. Fassett, 56, of Charlotte died Jan. 26, 1998, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mrs. Fassett was born in Northville, the daughter of Ivan and June (Lentz) Becraft. She had been a lifelong Charlotte area resident. She was a 1959 graduate of Vermontville High School and had been a school bus driver for the Maple Valley School District for 29 years. She was a member of the Travel Trailers of the Midwest Club and Michigan Appaloosa Horse Association. She was a former 4-H Leader and had been in the Girl Scouts of America.
She is survived by her husband, Gaylord; one daughter, Denise Olson of Charlotte; two sons, Jeffrey of Hastings and Bryan of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; her mother, June Becraft of Charlotte; one brother, Gary (Mary) Becraft of Fenwick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services were Jan. 29 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Duane Royston officiating. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery.

L. “Esther” Fassett
L. “Esther” Fassett, 90, of Charlotte died Oct. 23, 1998, at Golden Days II Nursing Home, Charlotte.
Mrs. Fassett was born Oct. 11, 1908, in Galveston, Ind., the daughter of Jasper and Emma (Rusk) Doty. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. Mrs. Fassett was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Eaton County Historical Society, Eaton County Retired Teachers, Greater Lansing Doll Club, American Bell Association, Naomi Circle, Eaton Antique Club and Eaton Art League.

Helen Imogene Fast
Helen Imogene Fast, 74, of Charlotte died April 30, 1998 at the Ingham Medical Regional Center in Lansing.
Mrs. Fast was born in Gleason, Tenn., the daughter of Bruce and Imogene (Wiseman) Montgomery. She was an owner of Helen and Jeans Restaurant and had been involved with the Eagles in Charlotte.
She is survived by two sons, Rickey (Kathey) Ross of East Tawas, and Lannie (Connie) Ross of Clarksville; one step-son, Gary (Kathy) Ross of Arizona; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Florie) Montgomery and Gene (Phyllis) Montgomery; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) Grenawalt of Charlotte and Dorothy (Vern) Swarthout of Manistee; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles of Charlotte.
