Frank F. Briskie

Frank F. Briskie, 87, of Olivet died April 12, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte.

Mr. Briskie was born in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Ignatz and Cecilia (Zynda) Brzycki. He was a lifetime resident of Olivet and worked in merchandising in the retail business, retiring from the Olivet Post Office last November.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Edward (Mary) Brzycki of Charlotte, and Zygmunt (Helen) Brzycki of Olivet; and sister, Hattie Freeburn of Battle Creek.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald and Douglas.

Graveside services were April 15 at the Bosworth Cemetery with the Rev. Tom McLane officiating. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Robert Britton

Robert Bruce Britton, O.D., 69, of Charlotte died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998. Dr. Britton was born June 19, 1929 in Lansing, the son of Oscar & Lilah (Glumm) Britton.

He is survived by wife, Lois; son, Scott (Ann) Britton; daughter, Judy (Lynn) Weaver; son, Kirk (Lori) Britton; daughter, Robin (John) Sherman, all of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, Jacob Weaver, Emily weaver, Brandi Britton, Christopher Britton, Brook Sherman, Benjamin Sherman, Mat Sherman, Karli Britton, Paige Britton, Lindsay Britton; brother, Richard (Nel) Britton of Haslett; 2 sisters, Nancy (Frank) Parker of Lansing and Sherley (Roger) Hannay of Westerlo, N.Y.; aunt, Edna Hess of Port Clinton, Ohio; special cousins, Craig (Marilyn) Britton of Beaverton, Oregon, Dorothy Nogrady of Stanton; sister-in-law, Marian Brooks of Chapel Hill, N.C.; many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Britton, a 1953 graduate of Ohio State University’s College of Optometry, practiced optometry in Charlotte from the time of his graduation until his retirement in 1992. He was a past president of the Michigan State Board of Examiners in Optometry and Central Michigan Optometric Society. Britton was among those most responsible for the establishment of the Ferris State University’s College of Optometry and served on the advisory committee. He also served as a mentor for optometry students and sponsored or assisted 19 Michigan students for admission to professional school.

In his community, Dr. Britton served as president of the Eaton County Intermediate School Board, vice president of the Charlotte Lions Club, president of Eaton Professionals, Inc. and as member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Charlotte Hospital Fund Drive Association, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Charlotte Downtown Development Authority, and Charlotte Aviation Council. Awards and honors received by Dr. Britton include the Optometrist of the Year Award of the Michigan Optometric Association, special commendations for service on the Michigan State board of Examiners in Optometry, an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Ferris State University, and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Optometry.

What he treasured most was his family and loving wife of 46 years, Lois. He was blessed by having all of his children and grandchildren living nearby. He treasured each and every moment spent with family. He was lovingly known as “Bumpa” to his grandchildren and will always have a special spot in their hearts. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, November 2, 1998 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Dr. Peter R.K. Brenner officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Catherine B. Brown

Catherine B. Brown, 84, of Charlotte died June 8, 1998, at Tendercare West in Lansing.

Mrs. Brown was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Chester Township, the daughter of Fred T. and Emma (Zimmerman) Wright. She married Walter “Jack” Brown Dec. 22, 1936. She was a housekeeper at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, and also worked as a nurse’s aide at Eaton County Medical Care Facility.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Lynn (William) Ireland of Charlotte; son, Wayne Eugene (Linda) Brown of Ada; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.

Services were June 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Geri Litchfield officiating. Interment was in Springport Cemetery.

Willie Brown

Willie Brown, 66, of Christopher, Ill., formerly of Marshall died Sept. 29, 1998, at home following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Brown was born June 26, 1932 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Jonathon and Amanda (Cole) Brown. He was a self-employed mechanic in Ft. Pierce, Fla. and a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge in Fla.

He is survived by four daughters, Sally (Charles) VanDeMoortel of Olivet; Barbara (Richard) Buskirk of Ark., Linda (Michael) Hansen of Roscommon, and Wilma (Kenneth) Croff of Vermontville; son, Jimmy (Denise) of Florida; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Susie and Mary Jane; four brothers, John of Battle Creek, John Henry (Martha) of Georgia, Tom (Nicole) of Indiana and Richard (Connie) of Coldwater; and companion, Arlene Little of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Billy in 1971, and two brothers, Jessie and George.

Services were held at Bellevue Christian Center Church in Bellevue.

David L. Burk

David L. Burk, 73, of Potterville died March 28, 1998 at Ingham Medical Hospital.

Mr. Burk was born in Hennepin Co. Minnesota, the son of Gustav and Verna (Hallett) Burk. He was a Lansing area drywall contractor for 23 years. He was a World War II veteran with the US Army and affiliated with the Lansing Lodge #33 F&AM, Potterville OES #413, VFW Post #2406, and American Post #269 (Haslett).

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; three daughters, Mary Ellen (Don) Woodworth of Lansing, Nonda Rock of Lansing, and Cyndy (Walt) Saxton of Perry; two sons, Raymond (Julia) Burk of Traverse City, and Gregory (Jackie) Robbennolt of Holt; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Woodrow Burk of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Grover Burk of Yucaipa, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were March 31 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Walter M. Saxton II officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery.

Grace V. Burkholder

Grave V. Burkholder, age 77, of Dimondale, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, July 18, 1998 at her residence. She was born July 26, 1920 in Missaukee County near Lake City, the daughter of Stowell and Minnie (Garn) Lawton. Mrs. Burkholder was a retired Director of Nurses for Jackson State Prison for the State of Michigan, a life member of the American Red Cross and a member of the Faith Bible Church in Lansing. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Paul Burkholder in 1965.

Surviving are her husband, Paul; 5 daughters, Judy (Larry) Messer of Battle Creek, Jerilyn (Jerry) Wichert of Hamburg, MI, Connie (Randy) Harris of Fairview, Donna (Jeffery) Messer of Monticello, IN and Joyce (Charles) Wideman of Grand Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Nye of Manton; brother, Verne Lawton of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 22 at 11 a.m. from the Faith Bible Church at 5211 W. St. Joseph Ave., Lansing MI. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers will be Jerry Wichert, Randy Harris, Jeffery Messer, Charles Wideman, Mark Messer and Jonathan Messer.

Virgil Burns

Virgil Burns, 64, of Sunfield passed away Jan. 1, 1998 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.

Mr. Burns was born Feb. 19, 1953, in Lansing. He was employed with Leaseway Trucking (formerly C & J Trucking Co.), retiring after 30 years of employment. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita; four daughters, Rebecca Burns of Grand Ledge, Sarah Burns of Sunfield, Dawn (Phil) Evans of Oscoda, and Debra (Trip) Anway; one son, Dennis (Kathy) Burns of Petosky; twelve grandchildren; mother, Grace Wise of Lansing; two sisters, Lee Sackrider of Nashville and Laura Albert of Lansing.

There will be no services. Arrangements were made by the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield.

Larry William Burt

Larry William Burt, age 50, of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, July 11, 1998. Mr. Burt was born March 22, 1948, in Luray, Virginia the son of Glenn and Bertie Burt. He worked in home construction as a builder, and was also a Vietnam Veteran.

He is survived by his parents, Glenn and Bertie of Charlotte; a daughter, Heather (Tony) Rondi of Williamsburg, Virginia; granddaughter, Ali Rondi of Williamsburg, Virginia; five brothers, Allen of Charlotte, James of Eaton Rapids, Garry (Julie) of Mulliken, Fred of Vermontville, and Douglas of Bellevue; and five sisters, Judy (Don) Thornbill of Georgia, Sandy (Dean) Parish of Charlotte, Lois Kettner of Charlotte, Marlene (Mike) Davids of Georgia, and Margaret Burt of Olivet.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at 2:00 p.m., at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend Richard Mitterling officiating.

Evelyn M. Bush

Evelyn M. Bush, 81, of Onondaga died Jan. 30, 1998, in Charlotte.

Mrs. Bush was born Aug. 15, 1916, in Tompkins Center the daughter of Clement and Hazel (Benn) Dack. She was a lifelong resident of the Tompkins/Onondaga area.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Pamela) and Bob (Pansy), both of Onondaga; one granddaughter, Rachel Bush of Onondaga; three sisters, Pauline Samson of Rives Junction, Luella Fitzpatrick of Parma, and Aletha Richardson of Springport; two brothers, Floyd Dack of Springport and Wayne Dack of Parma; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were Feb. 2 at the Tompkins Center Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Fugate officiating.

Arrangements were made by the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
