Carlos “Dan” Daniel Lozano Chavez
Carlos “Dan” Daniel Lozano Chavez, 45, of Potterville died May 31, 1998 in Charlotte.
Mr. Chavez was born Aug. 25, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Ruben and Lucinda (Lozano) Chavez. He had been employed by the Potterville School System as a custodial engineer. He enjoyed “hot rod” automobiles. He was a devoted father, loving son, brother, uncle and Godfather.
He is survived by his parents, Ruben and Lucinda Chavez of Potterville; one daughter, Deja Rene Chavez of Potterville; four brothers, Ruben L. Chavez of Charlotte, David L. Chavez of Delta, Armando L. Chavez of Charlotte, and Manuel (Margaret) Lozano Chavez of Delta; four sisters, Guadalupe (Don) L. Hoag of Potterville, Sylvia (Ray) L. Jolly of Marion, Mary-Helen L. Henry of Charlotte, and Catalina L. Chavez of Charlotte; and 17 nieces and nephews.
Rosary service was June 2 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Services were June 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment was in Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Howard Chupp
Howard R. Chupp, 71, of Bellevue, died at his home Sept. 22, 1998 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Chupp was born Nov. 19, 1926 in Reed City, the son of Rino and Sara Jane (Rawson) Chupp.
He attended Battle Creek schools, served in the United States Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was employed as foreman at Clark Equipment Co.; prior to that, he worked for Hydreco in Galesburg. He was married in 1947 to his wife, Barbara. He was a member of Our Lady of Great Oak Catholic Church-Lacey, Bronson Chapter 2924 Knights of Columbus, Post 298 of the American Legion, Steelheaders Association, and Clark’s Retirees and Campers Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodcrafts.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Wenger); five daughters, Terry Wiliford of Waterloo, N.Y., Lucy Potter, Gail Robinson and Laura Chupp, all of Bellevue, and Patti Blanchard of Clarkston; a son, Howard “Chip” of Bellevue; 18 grandchildren, and a brother, Henry Chupp of Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Hamm; and two brothers, William and Art.
Services were held at Our Lady of Great Oak Church-Lacey in Battle Creek with the Bishop Paul Donovan and the Rev. Fr. Richard Valls officiating. Interment was at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Great Oak Church or to the Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
Linda M. Clark
Linda M. Clark, 41, of Bellevue died Feb. 28, 1998, at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Clark was born August 9, 1956, in Charlotte, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Olmstead) Spaulding. She was a 1974 graduate of Bellevue High School and married Ronald Clark Nov. 28, 1975, in Bellevue. She was a medical secretary in the heart catherization lab at Battle Creek Health System. She was a member of the Bellevue First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Bunco group.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald; one daughter, Bethany Clark of Bellevue; one son, Jason Clark of Bellevue; her mother, Edna Spaulding of Bellevue; one sister, Jean (Jay) Thorndyke of Bellevue; one brother, Larry (Judy) Spaulding of Bellevue; and her paternal grandmother, Eva Spaulding of Bellevue.
Services were March 4 at the Bellevue First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Francis officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellevue First Baptist Church.
Lieutenant Colonel Shannon D. Clark
Newport Beach – Lieutenant Colonel Shannon D. Clark, U.S. Army, retired, age 66, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998 at Saddleback Memorial Hospital. He was born November 17, 1931, the son of Dewey Edward Clark and Mary Shannon Rodgers. LCol Clark graduated from high school in Eaton Rapids, MI, in 1950 and held a Business and Economics Degree from Michigan State University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from University of Southern CA. Colonel Clark was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army in October 1956 and served as an aviator, both fixed wing and helicopters, until retirement in December 1982 after 26 years of service which included Korea and two Vietnam tours. He was active in a number of veterans and service organizations which included the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Past President, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Joseph H. Pendleton Chapter, The Military Order of the World Wars, Michigan State Alumni Association, Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Retired Officers Association and the Helicopters Pilots Association.
He is survived by “Sandy” Sandhoff, his significant other.
A memorial service is planned for today, Tuesday, May 19, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at Melrose Abbey, 2303 South Manchester in Anaheim. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Bernice L. Clements
Bernice Lucile (Wonser) Clements, 85, of Charlotte died Aug. 12 at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, Charlotte.
She was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Carmel Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Lee B. and Emma Lily (Parr) Wonser. A lifelong Charlotte-area resident, Mrs. Clements had devoted her life to God, her family, and charitable works.
She was a 1930 graduate of Charlotte High School, attended Huntington College in Huntington, Ind., from 1933 to 1935, and was a member of the South Cochran Church of God. She was married to Robert G. Clements on July 19, 1936.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two daughters, Marilyn B. (Clarence) Shriver of Grand Ledge and Anna J. Grooms of Swartz Creek; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Aug. 15 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the South Cochran Church of God.
Larry R. Clements
Larry R. Clements, age 54, died at his home on November 10, 1998. He was born April 2, 1944, in Lansing. Mr. Clements was employed as foreman in the Department of Public Works for the City of Eaton Rapids for the last 6 years. For the previous 25 years, he was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #324 and worked for several local contractors.
Surviving are his wife, Connie (Grandy); 1 daughter, Tina; 1 son, Jason; parents, Ron and Joane Clements; 4 sisters, Bonnie (Ernie) Baker, Vickie (Thomas) Derengoski, Carol (Herb) Baker, and Donna (Jim Lopez) Archer; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and aunts.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 13, at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, with the Rev. David Selleck officiating. Interment followed in Deepdale Memorial Park.

Louise A. Crawford
Louise A. Crawford, 72, of Charlotte died April 14, 1998 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Crawford was born Nov. 16, 1925 the daughter of William R. and Eugenia H. (Henderson) Whitaker. She was a seamstress at Savants Cleaners in Lansing for many years. She was a past member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Eustis, Florida, and a Humane Society volunteer while in Florida the past 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, David; two daughters, Mary (David) Gardner of Lansing, and Shirley (Chuck) Lett of Charlotte; son, Rev. Peter (Kay) Crawford of Elkton; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Jane) Whitaker of Georgia; and sister, Susie Hill of Georgia.
Services were April 17 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham or Eaton County Humane Society.
Henry C. Creyts
Henry C. Creyts, age 89, died Monday, December 21, 1998, in San Benito, TX. Born February 24, 1909, in Ingham County the son of Don S. and Bertha (Waite) Creyts. Henry retired from Oldsmobile in 1971 as a Journeyman in Plant 1. He was a member of Griffith United Methodist Church, rocking Chair Deserters, the Order of Odd Fellows and UAW Local 652. Henry enjoyed fishing and spent his winters in Texas. He and his wife were active walkers. They were clowns since his retirement.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Claribell; 2 sons, Glenn (Rosemary) of San Benito, TX and Lyle (Janice) of Eaton Rapids; 2 daughters, Nina (Kenneth) Reeve and Ava (Gary) Hector, both of rural Eaton Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren plus any little child that happened to be around. He loved the kids!
Cremation has taken place in Texas. There will be no services at this time.
