Mary B. Verhelle
Mary B. Verhelle, age 79, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, September 19, 1998 at her residence. Born July 30, 1919 in Charlotte, the daughter of Adiel and Alieda (Saey) VanDeMoortel. Mary was raised in Charlotte, she and her husband, Albert have lived on the family farm in rural Eaton Rapids since 1949. Mary was an avid fisherman, visiting many local lakes, she and her husband enjoyed many years at their cabin in Luzerne, MI. She was well known for her love of baking and cooking. Mary was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids. Preceding her in heath are her parents; granddaughter, Theresa Verhelle; sister Augusta VanDeDriessche; 3 brothers, Achiel, Vic and Henry VanDeMoortel.
Surviving are her husband of over 60 years, Albert; 3 children, Robert Verhelle of Eaton Rapids, Richard (Lois) Verhelle of Eaton Rapids, and Margaret (Roger) Creighton of Charlotte; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial is Tuesday, September 22, 10 a.m. at St. Peter Church with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine as Celebrant. A Rosary was recited on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township, Eaton Rapids. Casket Bearers are Wayne Verhelle, Joe VanDenDriessche, Bill Cole, Roger Franke, Bill Palmer and Bernie Booyinga. Loren F. Vogt
Loren F. Vogt, 60, of Bellevue died Wednesday, June 3, 1998 as a result of a farming accident.
Mr. Vogt was born June 8, 1937, in Battle Creek, the son of Loren Henry and Bertha Viola (Sisson) Vogt. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1955 and then married Ruby Hatt on July 1, 1955. He worked for Walker Manufacturing.
Mr. Vogt is survived by his wife, Ruby; three children, Tammy (Jeff) Belprez of Dimondale, Gary (Kim Smith) Vogt of Marshall, and Lena Marie (Jeff) Magoon of Cumming, Ga.; nine grandchildren; brother, Denis W. (Louise) Vogt of Helena, Mont.; sister, Elsie May (Phillip) Beard of Battle Creek.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements were prepared by Pray Funeral Home.
Beatrice E. Vols
Beatrice Edith Vols, 85, of Charlotte died May 26, 1998 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Mrs. Vols was born Jan. 22, 1913 in Shawano, Wis., the daughter of Herman and Clara (Wolfgram) Hample. She was a bartender at “The Lounge” in downtown Charlotte.
She is survived by her son, Richard James of Lansing; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were May 28 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with the Rev. John A. Bookshaw officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Byron C. Waddell
Byron C. Waddell, 74, of Olivet died Sept. 1, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Waddell was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Chester Township, the son of Vernon and Vera (Smuts) Waddell. He was a 1943 graduate of Olivet High School, lifelong farmer, auctioneer, Walton Township Trustee, and attended the Faith Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene (Bauer), and one son, Ron.
Services were Sept. 5 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Thomas McLane and the Rev. Garry O’Dell officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Faith Assembly of God.
Joyce A. Wagner
Joyce A. Wagner, age 66, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday morning, June 15, 1998 at a Lansing hospital.
Mrs. Wagner was born July 16, 1931, in Grand Rapids, a daughter of Lellwin F. and Ruth Ann (Plumber) Jones. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard, and granddaughter, Alicia Wagner in 1975.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, James; 2 sons, James Wagner Jr. and Chris Wagner, both of Eaton Rapids; 1 daughter, Ruth Ann Wagner of Lansing; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Jane Gray of Old York, Illinois.
Services were held Thursday at Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with Rev. John A. Toth officiating. Interment was in Munger Cemetery.
Frances M. Walaskay
Frances M. Walaskay, 73, of Bellevue died Dec. 16, 1998, at the Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Walaskay was born July 18, 1925, in Owosso, the daughter of Anton and Marie (Janicek) Ozvalda. She graduated from Owosso High School and married George Walaskay Aug. 15, 1953. She was a member of the Brotherhood Locomotive Engineers Auxiliary and an assistant Bluebird leader with Camp Fire.
She is survived by her husband, George; one daughter, Susan Ernsberger of Bellevue; one son, G. Tom of Bellevue; two grandchildren; three sisters, Beth Phillips of Owosso, Ann Sulek of St. Charles, and Marie Panik of Lansing; three brothers, Frank Oswald of Owosso, Tony Oswald of Cheboygan, and Joe Oswald of Corunna.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Toni Miller.
Services were Dec. 19 at the St. Ann Catholic Church, Bellevue, with Rev. Fr. Jaya Rao Polimera officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Lynn Walters
Lynn Jeffery Walters, 48, of Charlotte died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998 at his home. Lynn was born May 7, 1950 in Charlotte, the son of Ned and Beverly (Paton) Walters. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3552 FOE.
He is survived by his daughter, Nikki, of Florida; father, Ned Walters of Charlotte; two brothers, Dan Walters of Lansing and Perry Walters of Valdosta, Georgia; and his sister, Cheryl Pressler of Harbor Springs.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly, in 1996.
There will be an Eagles Service Monday at 7 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with visitation to follow until 9 p.m.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. James Carey officiating. If desired memorial contributions can be made to the Eagles.
Carl Warren
Carl Warren, 53, of Charlotte died Aug. 27, 1998, in Bronson.
Mr. Warren was born Oct. 30, 1944, in Battle Creek and was a 1962 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, was a member of Maple City Post #2406 VFW in Charlotte, and a member of the Mish Mash and Suburban bowling leagues. He was a truck driver for the L.L. Johnson Lumber Co.
He is survived by three sons, Harry Jr. (Debbie) of Lansing, Michael (Amy) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Carl of Stanwood; four grandchildren; and companion Grace Lussmyer of Charlotte.
Services were Aug. 31 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Richard Garn officiating. Interment was in the Hickory Corners Cemetery, Barry County.
Military graveside services were provided by the Maple City Post #2405 VFW of Charlotte. Local arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
