Charles E. Whitson
Charles Edward Hadley Whitson IV “Charlie’s Angel”, 3 months, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998.
Charles was born June 13 in Lansing. He was the son of the late Charles Edward Hadley III and Amanda Dawn Whitson of Olivet.
He is survived by his mother, Amanda; grandparents, Jeffrey and Charles and Tiva Hadley II of Tennessee; great-grandparents, Eli and Edith Rayon of Carp Lake, Marlene Carendas of Vermontville, Clare and Joyce Wilmore of Charlotte, Charles and Beverly Hadley of Baldwin, and Joe and Millie Zakora of Charlotte; a great-great-grandmother, Anna Wright of Charlotte; aunts and uncles, Jenel Piepkow, Nate Whitson, Rebecca Whitson, Priscilla Whitson, Jeremiah Hadley; Tia Hadley, Ty Hadley, Matt Feldpausch and Ryan Feldpausch; and cousin, Trenton Piepkow.
Services were Sept. 29 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. John Bookshaw and the Rev. Scott Loughrige officiating. Interment was in Gresham Cemetery.
Edward H. Wichman
Edward H. Wichman, age 71, of Lake George, MI (formerly of Lansing) passed away on November 23, 1998. He was born June 8, 1927 in Detroit, Mi. Ed, along with his brother and sister, spent most of their youth at the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the State of Michigan, Financial Institutions Bureau, in 1989. Ed was a talented woodworker, enjoyed golf and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. Ed was a member of the VFW Post 701, Masons – Lodge 33, Moose Lodge #2235, Eagles #1039, American Legion Post 404 and the Elks Club of Lake Wales, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. and Lena T. Wichman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Loretta (Rita); his sons, Gary (Cheryl), Michael (Mary); grandchildren; Justin, Jamie, Matt, Amy, Bethany & Erin Wichman, and Jim and Amy Deline; brother, Gerald (Joyce) of Lansing and sister, Carole (Jack) of Holland; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Donna Culliton & Betty Olcott of Haslett, Marian Estok of Lansing, and Joan (Steve) Capella of Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 28, from Chapel in the Pines in Lansing, with Pastor Thomas Evans officiating. Larry Skinner, of Skinner Funeral Home, coordinated all arrangements. Earl L. “Tex” Wilburg
Earl L. “Tex” Wilburg, 94, of Olivet died Sept. 28 at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Wilburg was born Aug. 26, 1904 in Cherokee Nation, now known as Woodward, Okla., the son of George and Susan (Childers) Wilburg and had been an Olivet resident since 1933. He served in the United States Coast Guard and retired from Olivet College as a general equipment manager and trainer after 16 years of service. At Olivet College, he was honored by being named honorary member of all fraternities and sororities and by having the “Oaks” yearbook dedicated to him.
He is survived by two daughters, Kay Ferguson of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Jane Hare of Olivet; a son, Bart Wilburg of Marshall; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Carmody of Texas. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
James Robert Williams
James Robert Williams, age 69, life resident of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, August 5, 1998 at his home. He was born May 25, 1929, the son of Donald and Harriet (Robinson) Williams. Jim was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he loved the people of the Eaton Rapids community and served them for over 35 years as owner and operator of Rapids Carpet Service in Eaton Rapids. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Christine Shadduck; brother, Richard and sister, Betty.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Betty; daughter, Constance (Stephen) Snyder; son-in-law, Chuck Shadduck; grandchildren, Skylar, Kelsey, Emmalise Snyder, Jennifer Latunski, Guy Block and great-granddaughter, Aspen Latunski; brothers, Don, Chuck and Keith; sisters, Millie and Janet; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held today, Tuesday, August 11 at 11 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Robert Betts officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the P.H.I. founders, Charles Seaks, James McLaughlin, Gene Hoag, William Babbitt, Eber Sherman, Max Skinner, and Roger Greenhoe.

Donna Marie Wilson
Donna Marie Wilson, 81, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998.
She was born July 15, 1917, in Lansing, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Keefer) Dutcher. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church.
Donna is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Roy) Hall of Auburndale, Fla., and Kayla (James) Schmalbach of Potterville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Gwen Hanes of California; and brother, Glen Dutcher of Lansing. She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Dutcher.
Graveside services were Thursday, Aug. 6, at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Mulliken with the Rev. Phil Olson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.
Arrangements were prepared by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
James Russell Wilson
James Russell Wilson, age 70 of Lansing, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, March 15, 1998 at his residence in Lansing. He was born October 21, 1927 in Eaton Rapids the son of Frank and Mabel Wilson.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, June Wilson of Lansing; brothers, Dawn Wilson of Eaton Rapids, Vern (Marie) Wilson of Bellevue and Robert (Patricia) Wilson of Hamlin, KY; sisters, Louise Harris of Lansing, Emily McFarland of Middleburg, FL and Penny Zimmerman; beloved children, Gordon J. Wilson of Eaton Rapids, Gayla (Quentin) Colby of Woodland, Billie (James) Andjewski, Scott Wilson, Cindy (Sonny) Hartley, Doug (Beth) Wilson all of Grand Ledge, Lisa (Steve) Courser of Sunfield and Michelle (Michael) King of Leslie; 3 stepsons, Randy, Rick and William Merritt and their respective families of the greater Lansing area; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18, 1998 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Geoffrey Boyer officiating. Military graveside services followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing with the Edwin J. Leyanna VFW Post #671 of DeWitt conducting honors. Marylan J. Wilson
Marylan J. Wilson, 64, of Eaton Rapids died Feb. 20, 1998 at her residence.
Mrs. Wilson was born Aug. 18, 1933, in Lansing, the daughter of Harold and Nora T. (Norris) Wilson. She was a long time resident of Eaton Rapids and loved to fish.
She is survived by four sisters, Audrey (Wayne) Towers of Eaton Rapids, Barbara (William) Wenzlick of Eaton Rapids; Patricia (Harold) Pierson of Mason, and Sharon (Rex) Heintzelman of Eaton Rapids; two brothers, Harold Wilson and Richard (Laurie) Wilson all of Eaton Rapids; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Services were Feb. 23 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with the Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
Mary A. Wimberely
Mary A. Wimberely, age 79, of Eaton Rapids, died June 2, 1998 at home. Mary was born August 15, 1918 in Rives Junction, the daughter of Erlon James and Mary Gertrude (Luke) Burnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Pete” Wimberely in 199 and her sister, Leatha B. Alverson in 1997.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Charles) Boumiea of Eaton Rapids; son, Michael (Kay) Shaw of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Leola B. Gray of Eaton Rapids and cousin, Bonnie Bodrie of Mason.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 4, 1998 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Onondaga Cemetery.
Wilma B. Wing
Wilma B. Wing, 97, of Bellevue died March 4, 1998.
Mrs. Wing was born April 30, 1900, in Climax, the daughter of Frank and Carrie (Watkins) Meek. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1917. She married Howard T. Wing on April 30, 1935 at Baseline United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wing was a member of the Baseline United Methodist Church and its Women’s Society. she also served as Youth Group Leader and also was a 4-H leader.
She was survived by her son, Paul T. Wing of Bellevue; four daughters, Martha Erwin of Walnut Creek, Calif., Norma Greg of Dowling, Roberta Oakley of Albion and Ardith Rutz of Marshall; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Greta Hoskins of Evergreen Manor; and niece, Ruth Nelson of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; one daughter, Mary Woldvogel; and one sister, Pearl Adams.
Services were March 7 at the Baseline United Methodist Church, with the Pastor Glenn R. Wegner officiating. Interment was in Bell Cemetery, Assyria Township.
