Lucille R. Crites
Lucille R. Crites, age 60, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998, at her residence. She was born April 24, 1938 in Traverse City, MI, the daughter of Erwin and Lucille (Stevens) Nichols. Lucille was employed by Spartan Reclamation Center in Charlotte and was a member of the Community Christian Church of Eaton Rapids.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Donald; 4 children, Jackie Busick of Battle Creek, Robin Folgerty of South Carolina, Ralph Crites of Pentwater and Susie Northrup of California; 10 grandchildren; 2 sisters; 2 brothers, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 14, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Steven Klink officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Casket bearers were fellow, Ray Graham, Dave Gillett, Mike Ells, Dale Hose, Roger Bennett and Robin Naville.
Theo C. Cross
Theo C. Cross, 73, of Pentwater, formerly of Charlotte, passed away July 7, 1998 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids.
Mr. Cross was born Oct. 1, 1924 in Stanton, the son of Orla and Alta (Comden) Cross. He was married Nov. 9, 1947 to Barbara Ball. He worked at Aluminum Extrusions in Charlotte for 38 years. He was a member of the Pentwater Yacht Club and was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Steven L. (Brenda), Bryan W. (Joni); two daughters, Theo Jane Cross, and Lee Anne (Joseph) Gutierrez; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Howard (Ila), Gerald, and Earl (Betty); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Loreen Novenske.
Services were July 10 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with the Rev. Earl Cross officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the Charlotte Public Library.
Catherine Mary Culp
Catherine Mary Culp, 83, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord July 1, 1998.
Mrs. Culp was born May 9, 1915, in Vermontville, the daughter of Arthur L. and Alice I. Barningham. She was a faithful wife for 58 years and a loving mother. She was actively involved in the Free Methodist Church until she moved to the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center in 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Jane (Clarence) Webb of Statesville, N.C., and Joyce Hopkins of Houston, Texas; one son, James Donald (Joan) Culp of DeWitt; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Barningham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; and a daughter, Carol Jean Culp.
Services were July 3 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Charles Krueger officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
Sally J. Curtis
Sally J. Curtis, 66, of Clio, formerly of Charlotte, died Jan. 26, 1998, in Grand Blanc.
Mrs. Curtis was born June 21, 1931, in Eaton County, the daughter of Charles and Myrta (Ames) Conner. She married Bernard Curtis Aug. 9, 1952, at Gresham United Methodist Church. She had owned and operated various businesses throughout Michigan.
She is survived by three sons, Clay (Kelly) Curtis of Clio, Tyson Curtis of Memphis, Tenn., and Dale Curtis of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Stimer of Grand Ledge, Peggy Swan of Traverse City, and Betty Gibbs of Grand Ledge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, and one brother, Charles Conner.
Services were Jan. 29 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Dr. Terry Curtis officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery, Eaton County. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Violet M. Curtis
Violet M. Curtis, 76, of Olivet died March 27, 1998 at Ingham Medical Hospital in Lansing.
Mrs. Curtis was born in Watertown Township, the daughter of Clare W. and Elsie P. (Moffat) Miller.
She was a 1939 graduate of Grand Ledge High School. She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Walton Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; two daughters, Judy Curtis of Burlington, and Jean (Bob) Winnie of Marshall; one son, Clare (Mary) Curtis of Charlotte; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Marilyn) Miller and Ronald (Mary) Miller both of Ovid; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were March 31 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery.

Matilda Cutcher
Matilda Cutcher, 90, of Nashville, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998 at Thornapple Manor, Hastings.
Mrs. Cutcher was born June 10, 1908, in Lucas County, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Lottie (Shovar) Grosjean. She married Robert Cutcher on Feb. 21, 1928 and moved to Orangeville and then to Nashville. Her husband died March 1985. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Cyril Catholic Church in Nashville, and the Nashville VFW Auxiliary. She was a great cook, enjoyed gardening, and liked to watch her hummingbird and gopher.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorene Dean of Hastings; a son, James Cutcher and his fiancé, Addie, of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Marilyn (Glen) Wagner, Susan (Keith) Baker, and William (Nora) Dean; step-grandchildren, Jason (Candy) D’Onofrio, Vicky Haston and Mandy (Bruce) Hancock all of Texas; four great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances, Catherine and Margerie, all of Ohio; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Fred.
Services were held Dec. 18 at the St. Cyril Catholic Church in Nashville with the Rev. Charles Fischer officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo. Arrangements were made by Maple Valley Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
Gregory M. Dane
Gregory M. Dane, 19, of Charlotte died Feb. 19, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Greg was born Dec. 2, 1978 in Lansing, the son of Robert and Carol (Summer) Dane. He was a 1997 graduate of Charlotte High School.
He is survived by his parents; sister, Jessica; brother, Steven; grandparents, Carroll and Pat Dane of Charlotte; great-grandmother, Ruth Laugaugh of Hastings; several aunts and uncles.
Services were Feb. 23 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Charles Krueger officiating. Interment was in Perry Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Bertha P. Danks
Bertha P. (Randolph) Danks, 63, of Charlotte, formerly of Lake Odessa and Grand Ledge, died Feb. 13, 1998, at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility after an extended illness.
Mrs. Danks was born in Grand Ledge the daughter of William and Rose (Moon) Randolph. She had been employed at the Charlotte Chair Co. and the Sebawing Sugar Beet Factory in Bay City.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary (Mark) Pruden of Charlotte, Betty (Phil) Todd of Lake Odessa and Kathy Bowers of Lake Odessa; one son, Richard Danks of Orleans; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Randolph of Hubbardston; and three brothers, Jerry Randolph of St. Louis, Raymond Randolph of Ionia, and Lawrence Randolph of Portland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Danks; and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place. Services were Feb. 16 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.
