Vivian Dye
Vivian Irene Dye, 77, of Charlotte, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, following an incredible and courageous 19-month battle with cancer.
Mrs. Dye was born Nov. 25, 1920 in Ann Arbor the daughter of George and Beatrice McKishnie. She worked for Eaton Stamping retiring after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Center Eaton United Methodist Church and Center Eaton United Methodist Women until it closed. She then became a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte. Vivian’s family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Carol Rapson; Nurse Karla Barker; volunteer, Frances Jamison; and Ingham Visiting Nurse Service Hospice personnel, Sheila, Brenda, Molly, Marty, Laura and Christie.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlene (Brian) Hayes, Pat (John) Haley, and Martha (Donald) Klaiss, all of Charlotte; step-daughter, Lura “Susie” Grossman of Holt; grandchildren, David (Janet) Hayes, Tim Hayes and Dawn, Nadine (Fred) Klaiss, all of Charlotte, Pam (Rick) Taylor of Freeland, Jeff Haley and Heather, Paul Haley, Jennifer Klaiss and Amanda Klaiss, all of Charlotte, Amy Arnold of East Lansing; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence McKishnie of Eaton Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Dye in 1985.
Services were held Nov. 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with the Rev. George and Rev. Edna Fleming officiating. Interment was at Center Eaton Cemetery.

Bernard Gordon
Bernard A. Gordon, 72 of Kalamazoo, formerly of Olivet, died Sept. 20, 1998 at home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Gordon was born on Sept. 24, 1925, in Detroit the son of Francis and Mellie (Vabolis) Gordon. He was a resident of the Olivet area most of his life, moving to Kalamazoo in 1988. He was employed by the Kellogg Company for 30 years, farmed, worked for P&M Construction Co. of Battle Creek. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1947, he married his first wife, Gayle Lou Shafe in Olivet. In 1997, he married Geraldine “Geri” Morey-Voss in Tacoma, Wash. He was a member of the Athens VFW Post 5219, the Kellogg’s 25 Year Club, the Lutheran Church, and a life member of the Olivet Masonic Lodge 584. He enjoyed doing yard work, riding his tractor, and in his youth, deer hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; three daughters, Judy Grube of San Antonio, Texas, Jeannie Grimes of Arlington, Va.; and Janice Gordon of Westland; one son, Dennis “Denny” Gordon of Marshall; stepchildren, Thomas Morey, David Morey, Michael Morey, and Lori Horn, all of Battle Creek, Barbara Weeks of Union City, Julie Dearman of Sherwood and Sandra Ciba of Olivet; seven grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Beatrice Voss of Athens; numerous aunts and uncles.
Services were held at Kempf Funeral Home. Interment was at Lee Center Cemetery with military honors provided by Athens VFW Post 5319.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Mary Edna Gordon
Mary Edna Gordon, age 75, of Charlotte, died Friday, June 12, 1998.
Mrs. Gordon was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Kenton, Ohio, the daughter of Victor and Lulu Hesser.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Frederick “Fritz” Gordon; two daughters, Phyllis (Terry) Southerly of Potterville and Nancy ( Michael) Livingston of Eaton Rapids; one son, David (Kristine) Gordon of Lansing; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Botchlett, Helen Summey, Marie Brentlinger and Luella Richardson, and four brothers, Elmer Hesser, Earl Hesser, Charles Hesser and Paul Hesser.
Funeral services were Monday, June 15, at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Robert Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Ethan Hayward Grant
Ethan Hayward Grant, 66, of Charlotte was welcomed to heaven June 2, 1998.
Mr. Grant was the son of Ethan C. and Barbara Clare (Kaesemeyer) Grant, and Al and Dorothy Easter. He was proud to serve his country as a military officer in the Army. He was a retiree of Michigan Bell, where he worked as a cable splicer.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Jones; five daughters, Denise (Doug) Keyes of Lowell, Barbara Grant of Grand Ledge, Kathleen Grant of Charlotte, Dawn (Mike) Evans of Holt, and Erin (Paul) Wagner of Lansing; three sons, Ethan H. (Lisa) Jr. of Webberville, David of Oklahoma, and Josh (Elizabeth) of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Ruth Russell of Walport, Ore., and Kaye Elizabeth Peck of Port Huron.
Graveside services were June 6 at Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Robert Otho Greenawalt
Robert Otho Greenawalt, 80, of Bellevue died April 18, 1998 at the Eaton Co. Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.
Mr. Greenawalt was born April 12, 1918 in Dola, Ohio, the son of Arthur G. and Mary A. Tressel Greenawalt. He served the U.S. Army as Sgt. with the 507 Antiaircraft Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He married Dorothy E. Fett Nov. 9, 1940 in Newport, KY. Mr. Greenawalt worked for 27 years at Post Division, General Foods retiring in 1976. He was a member of the East Temple Baptist Church of Auburndale, Fla. He was also a member of Post 25 Year Club, life member of Bellevue Lodge #83, F&AM, and Bellevue Olivet Chapter #196, O.E.S., member of Horace S. Maynard Chapter #82 Royal Arch Masons of Charlotte, Thornapple Valley Post #8260 VFW, and the Bellevue Conservation Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Karen Ostrander of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Kay Serven of Bellevue; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Greenawalt of Bellevue; and two sisters, Lucille Binkley of Lima, Ohio, and Betty Mruczkowski of Cleveland, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur A. Greenawalt; and two brothers, Donald and Gerald Greenawalt.
Services were April 21 at the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with the Rev. Donald Francis officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Temple Building Fund.
Darleen E. Gregg
Darleen Eleanore Gregg, 87, of Charlotte died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, in Lansing.
She was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of David and Gertrude (Tuttle) Finch. She attended Charlotte High School. Darleen was employed by Morris 5 & 10, Bos Bakery, and Charlotte Chair Co. from 1950 to 1987 with 36 years of service. She married Murl Leon Gregg on April 29, 1929. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1957. Darleen was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Charlotte; member and founder of Northside Mothers’ Club; volunteer with Eaton County Genealogical Society. She led a very active life and touched many lives with her encouragement.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma (Calvin) Etson of Olivet; son, Larry Gregg of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Aug. 15 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with the Rev. Scoot Brood officiating. Arrangements were handled by Pray Funeral Home.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Michigan Heart Association.
Harold Gress
Harold Gress, 92, of Springport, passed away Saturday, August 9, 1998. He was a long time resident of Springport (about 48 years), and past president of the Senior Citizens Club in Springport for many years. He also was a member of the Pope Church. People in Springport will remember Harold taking pride in the care of his lawn and garden.
Surviving are one brother, Kenneth Gress of Jackson and one sister, Gladys Hammond of Florida. His wife Gertrude preceded Harold in death.
Memorial service will be held at the Pope Church today, Tuesday, August 18, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at a later date and time. No visitation will be held at the funeral home.
Ion Griffin
Ion M. Griffin, 61, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Oct. 25, 1998, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Griffin was born in Charlotte, the son of Guy and Bernice (Johnson) Griffin. He was a lifelong Olivet and Charlotte area resident and a 1955 graduate of Olivet High School. He had been employed by the Kellogg Company, Battle Creek, retiring in 1996 after 38 years of service. Since retiring from Kellogg’s, he had been employed part time by the Olivet Community Schools. He was a member of the Kellogg’s 25-year Club and the Marshall Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Pierce); five daughters, Deanna (Phillip) Hebenstreit of Olivet, Darlene Griffin of Potterville, Dawn (Jerome) Howlett of Charlotte, Susan (Eugene) Smith of Orlando, Fla., and Christine Smith of Albion; four sons, Danny Griffin and David (Jane) Griffin, both of Portsmouth, Va., Daniel (Roseann) Smith of Sherwood, and Marty (Robert) Strong of Olivet; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Lee of Olivet, Ted (Ann) of Roscommon, and Jon (Elizabeth) of Charlotte.
Services were Oct. 29 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
