Richard C. Webber
Richard Charles Webber, 53, of Charlotte died April 6, 1998 at Sparrow Hospital.
Mr. Webber was born Dec. 21, 1944, in Ithaca, the son of Charles and Vivian (Cole) Webber.
He worked in Trim Repair at Fisher Body, retiring after 28 years. He was a member of the Capital City Custom Truck & Car Club.
Richard was known as Cadillac Dick by many people. He was a car enthusiast who had worked on and restored many. His last project was a 1958 Chevy Impala.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Debbra (Darrell) Teeter of St. Louis; three sons, Robert A. Webber of Alma, Paul D. Webber of Chicago, and Randall E. Webber of Alma; four stepdaughters, Teresa Dollahan of Saranac, Tammi (Charles) Kenney of Lake Odessa, Tracy (Ron) Rutherford of Alton, Ill., and Terri Webb of Lansing; one stepson, Louis Webb III of Louisiana; three brothers, Ray Webber and Reg Webber, both of Ithaca, and Gary Webber of Pennsylvania; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were April 10 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Randy Royston officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Lucille M. Weiland
Lucille M. Weiland, 85, of Charlotte died April 27, 1998 at the Clark Retirement Community, Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Weiland was born Nov. 26, 1912 in Hesperia, the daughter of John and Estella (Matthews) Mahan. She has been a Charlotte resident since 1940. She was a 1931 graduate of Hesperia High School, attended Newago County Normal and later Olivet College. She has been a rural schoolteacher for a time in Oceana County. She was a member of the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church, where she had served as Director of Christian Education retiring in 1989 after 40 years of service.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Bill) McKay and one son, Melvin Weiland, both of Reno; eight grandchildren; one sister, Ruth (Robert) Curtis of Monroe; 44 nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert H. Weiland; and five brothers, L.D., Matthew, Mort, Marshall and her twin brother, Frank Mahan.
Services were May 1 at the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at the Hesperia-West Cemetery in Oceana County. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church.
Nancy R. Wells
Nancy Ruthann Wells, 60, of Mulliken died Sept. 29, 1998, at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Lansing.
Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 28, 1937, in Grand Ledge, the daughter of Arthur and Beatrice (Holten) Eastman. She married Roger Wells March 3, 1954. She was a quality engineer for Michigan Magnetics in Vermontville, former children’s foster care parent, former bus driver for Maple Valley Schools, and member of Kalamo Eastern Star #399.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; two daughters, Kimberly (Garry) Bakos and Toni (Steve) Cambric, both of Stanton; one son, Timothy (Lynda) of Vermontville; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Marie) Eastman and Arlo (Dolna) Eastman, both of North Carolina; his mother and stepfather, Beatrice (Virgil) (Eastman) Hock of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur, in 1963.
Services were Oct. 3 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Wesley Emerson officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Phyllis Wendel
Phyllis E. Wendel, 69, of Charlotte died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at her residence.
Mrs. Wendel was born in Charlotte, the daughter of Fay and Lucille (Caplinger) Goodrich, and had been a lifelong Charlotte-area resident. She was a 1947 graduate of Charlotte High School, was a member and past president of the Maple City Post #2406 VFW Auxiliary, and was employed by the Eaton County 56th District Court, retiring in 1996 after 28 years of service. Surviving are three sons, George (Darlene) Riddle Jr., Geoffrey (Diana) Riddle and Dale Lee (Shelly Wiser) Wendel, all of Charlotte; daughter, Denise Riddle of Douglas, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Karole (Roy) Bartlett of Charlotte and Barbara Jean (Jim) Rieben of Clay, N.Y.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and one brother, Jerry (Sue) Goodrich of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland G. Wendel on Sept. 13, 1995.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 18, 1998, at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Peter R. K. Brenner officiating. Cremation followed services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, or the Eaton Community Hospice.
Judy L. (Loomis) Wesley
Judy L. (Loomis) Wesley, 45, of Charlotte died Feb. 22, 1998.
She was born Dec. 30, 1952, in Paw Paw. She was employed by Michigan State University in building services.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher VanScyco; one brother, Duane Spaulding; and her mother, Betty Golladay.
Surviving are her husband, Mark; one daughter, Susan Davis of Columbia, Tenn.; one son, Richard Loomis of Lansing; two grandchildren; her father, Louis Golladay (Rena Boedeker) of Grand Ledge; two sisters, Yvonne Martin of Laingsburg, and Patricia Wilson of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were Feb. 26 at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge with the Rev. Fr. Robert McGraw officiating.

Beatrice F. Wheaton
Beatrice F. Wheaton, 88, of Charlotte, died Sept. 18, 1998.
Mrs. Wheaton was born June 28, 1910, the daughter of Allie and Fern (Snoke) Baker. She married Myrle Wheaton in 1932. She was a nurse’s aid at the Holiday Home and Eaton County Medical Facility in Charlotte and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Dean) May; a son, Phillip (Eleanor); six grandchildren, Bryon, Adam, Julie, Denise, Carla, and Ronda; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Satterly of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myrle; a son, Stanley; and two brothers, Leonard Baker and Rolland Baker.
Services were held with the Rev. Jeffrey Bowman officiating. Interment was in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital, Gresham United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
Ollie Whitaker
Ollie Whitaker, age 86, went to his heavenly home on September 23, 1998. Ollie was born July 3, 1912 at Boone’s Camp, West Van Lear, Johnson Co., KY. He was the youngest of nine children born to the late George and Emma (Bolin) Whitaker. He was raised and lived on Abbott Road, bonanza, Bloyd Co., KY until 1935 where he worked in the coal mines and farmed. Moving to Ohio and then to Michigan, he has lived in the Eaton Rapids area for over 56 years. He retired from Lindell Drop Forge in 1973 and attended the Old Regular Baptist Church. Ollie was preceded in death by one son, James Whitaker; 3 brothers, A.J., Lum, and Buddie Whitaker; 4 sisters, Lulie Prater, Ocie Music, Dixie Nichols and Lucy Hackworth.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Clarinda Williams Whitaker; 6 sons, Axley (Claudia) Whitaker of Eaton Rapids, George (Donis) Whitaker of Brownsville, TX, Oliver (Kay) Whitaker of Lansing, Russell (Becky) Whitaker of Springport, Richard (Betty) Whitaker of Charlotte, Glen (Jill) Whitaker of Eaton Rapids; 2 daughters, Wanetta (Chester) Ramey of Eaton Rapids and Joyce (Mike) Martin of Mason; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; 4 step grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Bertha Pierce of Romulus, MI.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 25, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Mr. Whitaker has been taken to the Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, KY, where services were held on Saturday, September 26. Interment followed at the Whitaker Family Cemetery in Bonanza, KY.
Erica Elaine White
Erica Elaine White, 18, of Vermontville died May 16, 1998 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Erica was born in Hastings, the daughter of Brad R. White and Pamela K. (Heinze) White. She was a student at Maple Valley High School, member of Spanish Club, FFA and Student Aid at Maple Valley and would have graduated May 31.
She is survived by her mother, Pamela K. White of Polk City, Fla.; father, Brad White of Vermontville; brother, T.J. Richard White of Polk City, Fla.; grandparents, Melvin and Flora White of Vermontville, and Joyce Miller of Polk City, Fla.; aunts and uncles; step-mother, Patty Mussen of Vermontville; step-brothers, Johnny and Devin Musser of Vermontville; step-sister, Missy Musser of Vermontville; and best friend, Jennie Forque.
Services were May 19 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Eric E. Lison officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
Jo Whitinger
Jo Whitinger, 65, of Charlotte died April 29, 1998 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Mrs. Whitinger was born Nov. 25, 1932 in Kawkawlin, the daughter of Harley and Mary (Hurd) Edwards. She had dealt with antiques for the past 30 years. She married Glenn L. Whitinger on June 25, 1953 in Angola, Ind.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn; three sons, Dan J. Whitinger of Lowell, Jeffery Alan (Peggy) Whitinger of Sunfield, and Steven G. (Marilyn) Whitinger of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and one half-brother, Paul (Marilyn) Thornton of Colorado.
Services were May 2 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Deacon James Mathias officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery.
