Eileen M. Jenson
Eileen Marie Jenson, 68, of Charlotte died Oct. 7, 1998.
Mrs. Jenson was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Lansing, the daughter of Bruce and Rhoda (Bearsley) Siple. She worked at the Charlotte chair Factory and Wilcox-Gay. she was a life member of the Eagles and involved with many community activities. She volunteered at the Wednesday night Community Dinners at the Charlotte Eagles hall and served as Inside Guard for the Eagles Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Blane) White and Cecil (Coy) Cousins, both of Vermontville, and Karen (LeRoy) Halliwill of Charlotte; four sons, Charles and Joseph (Terry) Jenson, both of Charlotte, Mitch Jenson of Lansing, and George (Tami) Stickles; one daughter-in-law, Peg Jenson of Vermontville; one sister-in-law, Beulah Jenson of Charlotte; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special family members Eugene Hayes and Donald Okinoweski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel, in 1968, and one son, Neil in 1986.
Services were Oct. 10 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Charles Jenson and Elder Richard Garn officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery.
Anna I. Klont
Anna I. Klont, 83, of Charlotte died Feb. 13, 1998 at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Klont was born in Branch County, the daughter of Virgil and Anna (Huxley) Robison.
She is survived by two step sons, Peter Klont and Rodney Klont both of Charlotte; one step daughter, Marian Jones of Sarasota, Fla.; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Terri Suarez of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Van Dyke; and second husband, Frank Klont; and one sister, Lenora Thomas.
Cremation has taken place. Services were Feb. 17 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Peter R. K. Brenner officiating. Interment was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
Charlotte H. Knop
Charlotte H. Knop, age 88, of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, November 5, 1998 in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born February 21, 1910 in Koslin, Germany the daughter of Gustav and Marie (Runde) Wiebe. Charlotte, a citizen of the United States, moved to Eaton Rapids in 1952. She had worked for over 30 years for the Shimmin Drug Store in Eaton Rapids, a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eaton Rapids Senior Citizens, an honorary member of the Eaton Rapids Hospital Auxiliary, and was always seen working at the booths during elections. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1986.
Surviving are her daughter, Ursula Pombier of Mishawaka, IN; 4 grandchildren, Catherine (John), Paul, Anne and John (Denise); 3 great-grandchildren, Meredith Clay, Jake and Lindsay Pombier; one brother, Gerhard (Gertrud) Wiebe; nephew, Karsten Wiebe; niece, Geertja Urgien all of Germany.
Memorial services were held Saturday, November 7th from the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Tom Evans officiating. A private committal of ashes was done on Monday in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids next to her husband Paul. The family was served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Brenda J. Kot
Brenda J. Kot, 43, of Charlotte died Jan. 3, 1998, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Kot was born Aug. 18, 1954, in Bridgeton, N.J. She spent most of her life in Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1972. She was employer by the State of Michigan for 23 years and a member of Christian Reformed Church of Charlotte. She enjoyed going to church, reading, genealogy, and being with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kot; one daughter, Rachel D. Lowery; her parents, Victor and Frances Taverniti; three sisters, Beverly (Jerry) Davids of Charlotte, Barbara (Scott) Mann of Williamsport, Tenn., and Karla (Carl) Nowak of DeWitt; one brother, Timothy (Brenda) Taverniti of Charlotte; and nephews and nieces.
Services were Jan. 6 at Pray Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett McAtee officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Christian Reform Church and to the Eaton Community Hospice.
Elton LaBare
Elton “Al” Edward LaBare, 62, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. Mr. LaBare was born Aug. 17, 1936 in Charlotte the son of Lorrance and Lola (Ryan) LaBare. He was a customer service representative for Pitney Bowes for 28 years until his retirement in 1996. He had served 11 years in the United States Army Reserve and held membership in the American Legion of Lansing. Mr. LaBare was a former active member of the Cereal City Lions Club, the Urbandale Planning Council, and Christ United Methodist Church in Battle Creek. He was also actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America program for 24 years. Mr. LaBare is currently a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte and was a leader for the Stephen Ministry program.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter Amy Jo Davidson of Charlotte; son, Lynn Edward (Diana) LaBare of Marshall; four grandchildren; and stepsisters, Elyse Hook of Battle Creek and Peggy Master of Hixson, Tenn.
Services were held at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church on Nov. 10 with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Frances B. Lake
Frances B. Lake, age 85, of Duck Lake died Sunday, November 29, 1998 at a nursing home in Jackson. Born April 24, 1913 in Clarendon Township the daughter of Gilbert G. and Maude (Hollenbeck) Seckler. Frances and her husband Don owned and operated the Don Lake’s Grocery Store at Duck Lake from 1940-1975. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Lake in 1988.
Surviving are 1 son, Bernello Bud (Sue) Lake of Duck Lake; 3 grandchildren, Donald (Wendy) Lake of Duck Lake, Darcy (Les) Drake of Hanover-Horton and Steven Lake of Springport; 5 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Lake, Carla Beemer, Trent and Shalee Drake; brother, Rex Seckler of California; sister, June Gillette of Albion; niece, Sharon Meler of California and nephew, Douglas Lake of Florida.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 3rd, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Lambert McClintic officiating. Graveside services followed in the Clarence Center Cemetery at Duck Lake. Casket bearers were Donald Lake, Les Drake, Steven Lake and Ryan Lake.
Edna M. Lange
Edna M. Lange, 90, of Charlotte died Feb. 19, 1998 at Eaton Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Lange was born Dec. 29, 1907 in Charlotte, the daughter of R. Otis and Ada F. (Hill) Beals. She was a line worker at Wilcox Gay Co.
She is survived by her son, Max (Jo) McKenzie of Dimondale; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard Beals of Pena Valley, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Lange.
Services were Feb. 21 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Joyce DeToni-Hill officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Manor Nursing Home.
Robert L. LaPoint
Robert L. LaPoint, 78, of Olivet died May 11, 1998 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. LaPoint was born in Battle Creek, the son of Leo and Ruth (Wolkenhut) LaPoint, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Bellevue High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, had been employed by General Foods-Post Cereals Div. in Battle Creek, from where he retired in 1975 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Post Cereals 25 Year Club, the Marshall Moose Lodge, and was a former VFW member. With his wife Iva, they had pony rides for kids that were held at carnivals, fairs, and local functions for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Iva (Norton) LaPoint; three sons, Danny (Romona) LaPoint and Denny (Vickie) LaPoint, both of Olivet, and David (Jayne) LaPoint of Eaton Rapids. eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Wenger of Battle Creek and Pat (Dick) Darkey of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dottie Lindsey and Marion Day; and two brothers, Floyd and Dale LaPoint.
Cremation has taken place. Services were May 15 at the Olivet First Assembly of God Church, Olivet, with the Rev. Douglas Hammond officiating. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olivet Fireman’s Association.
Jeanne LaTorre
Jeanne LaTorre, 79, of Charlotte died Oct. 12, 1998 at Moore’s Adult Foster Care Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. LaTorre was born in Lansing the daughter of John and Gladys (Bosworth) Freeman and was a longtime Charlotte area resident. She had worked for many years at the former Wilcox-Gay Radio Co. and was active in both Auxiliaries of American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 2406 in Charlotte.
She is survived by friend, Art LeBlanc; two nieces, Sharon Copeland and Della Carpenter; and five nephews, Milton Freeman, John B. Freeman, Roger Freeman, Sheldon Freeman, and John Freeman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rocco LaTorre; a sister, Delphine (Freeman) Braman; and a brother, John Freeman.
Services were held Oct. 15 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating.
