Charles R. McManamey
Charles R. McManamey, 79, of Lake Placid died March 13, 1998.
Mr. McManamey was born in Chicago, Ill., he had been a resident of Lake Placid for the past 15 years coming from Lansing. He was the owner of a plastics company, and a founder of Spartan Motors of Charlotte. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nappanee, Ind., Masonic Lodge in Lansing, and past president of the Leisure Lakes Homeowners Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Jim of Woodbridge, Va., Ken of Nashville, and Don of Wichita, Kan.; three daughters, Cleo Aurich of Nunica, Petty Swigert of Albany, Ga., and Julie Lang of Webberville; brother, Marvin of Grand Haven; sister, Batty Weiss of Fruitport; 22 grandchildren; and 18-great-grandchildren.
Services were March 17 from the chapel of Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid, with Chaplain Brian Pleasants officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Placid.
Sherry Ann McNary
Sherry Ann McNary, 60, of Charlotte died May 5, 1998 at her home.
Ms. McNary was born April 4, 1938 in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Sherman E. and Kathleen B. (Nitkin) McNary. She is a Plant 3 GM employee.
She is survived by her mother, Kathleen B.; one brother, Shane (Beverly) McNary; five children, Connie Swander, Shawn (James) Mitchell, Michelle (Brian) Quinn, Cindy (Francis) McMillen, and Jason McNary; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were May 9 at the Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with her brother, Shane, officiating. Interment services followed at West Windsor Cemetery with Pastor Bill Tate officiating.
Ernestine Madry
Ernestine Madry, 64, of Bellevue died Aug. 18, 1998, at the Home of Hope Hospice, Grand Rapids, following a short illness.
Mrs. Madry was born in Battle Creek and had lived most of her life in the Bellevue area. She was a 1952 graduate of Olivet High School and had worked for Kellogg’s in Battle Creek for 15 years until 1968. She married John Madry Jr. Jan. 19, 1952.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay (Darrel) Johnston of Sebring, Fla., and Julie (Randy) Masters of Lansing; two sons, John III of Olivet and Trevor (Jodi) of Convis Township; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Donna (ray) Simbulan of Battle Creek, Laura (Roger) McKee of Vermontville, Pat Greenfield of Flint, and Pam (Gil) Hines of St. Louis, MO.; and three brothers, Ken (Mary) Betz of Bellevue, John (Sharon) Betz of Pennsylvania, and Jim (Jackie) Betz of Indian River.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sept. 19, 1995.
Services were Aug. 21 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Rae Franke officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Home of Hope Hospice or Butterworth Health Foundation, both in Grand Rapids.
Edward Maggard
Edward Maggard, 59, of Charlotte died Jan. 16, 1998, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mr. Maggard was born in Whitesburg, Ken., the son of Isaac and Glesse (Thomas) Maggard. He had been a Charlotte resident for 38 years, coming from Kentucky. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Eaton County Road Commission retiring due to ill health in 1989 after 29 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie; five daughters, Linda (Frank) Satterlee and Debbie Maggard, both of Charlotte, Kathy (Ray) Webb of Hastings, Eva Edgecomb of Potterville, and Treva (Steven) Pennington of Oneida, Texas; one son, Tom of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Thelma (Charles) Patrick of Nashville, Edna Mae Warner of Charlotte, and Polly Morton of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecelia, his parents, two brothers, Daniel and Ishmal; and one sister, Viola Combs.
Services were Jan. 19 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Jeffrey Nunham officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Lawrence E. Main
Lawrence E. Main, 64, of Hastings died March 12, 1998, at the Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mount Pleasant.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four sons, Ed (Zar) Main of Otsego, Tom (Tammy) Main of Wayland, Robert (Kathy) Main of Hastings, and Steve (Abbie) Main of Hastings; one daughter, June (Ron) Stall of Charlotte; one daughter-in-law, Diane Main; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 16 at the Wren Funeral Home, Hastings, with the Rev. Jeffrey Bowman officiating.

Mary (Mace) Woolford Mapes
Mary (Mace) Woolford Mapes, 81, unexpectedly passed away Feb. 15, 1998.
Mrs. Mapes was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Cambridge, MD. She attended St. Mary’s Seminary and graduated from Hood College. She married W.H. Mapes on April 16, 1938. She resided with her family in Munster, Ind. before retiring to Tequesta, Fla. Mrs. Mapes was an avid golfer and worked as a volunteer in the emergency room at the Jupiter Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Trary Bishop of Incline Village, Nev.; two sons, Reed Mapes of Bradenton, Fla. and Stephen Mapes of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
A private family service is planned at Christ Episcopal Church, Cambridge, MD. Interment was in the Webb-Woolford Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Victor Marlow
Victor Marlow, 92, of Mulliken died May 24, 1998 at his home.
Mr. Marlow was born Feb. 12, 1906 in Lake Odessa, a son of Charles and Elsie (Parker) Marlow. He was a retired elementary school teacher, operated the general store in Hoytville, and former Mulliken postmaster. He was a member of the National Teachers Association and a life member of the Mulliken F&AM #412.
He is survived by three children, Donald (Doris) Marlow of Harrison Township, June (John) Campanile of Lansing and Richard (Donna) Marlow of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Ellen and Beatrice; and two sisters, Eva and Letha.
Services were May 26 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with the Rev. Robert E. Betts officiating. Masonic graveside services followed at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
Esther Marsh
Esther R. Marsh, 82, of Sunfield, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Richardson’s Adult Foster Care.
She was born Oct. 8, 1915 in Lyons the daughter of Alonzo and Edna (Vanderburg) Marsh.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Carol) of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Kavanaugh of Grand Rapids, Timothy (Julie) of Palo, and Jeffery of Portland; five great-grandchildren, Chad and Cory Kavanaugh, Timmy, Amanda and Jeremy Marsh; two sisters, Norma Marsh of Sunfield and Mary (Robert) Aspin of Mulliken; many nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Winston Lake; and two sister-in-laws, Helen Marsh, and Reva Marsh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and a sister.
Services were held Sept. 14 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. Donald Woolum of Sebewa Center United Methodist Church officiating.
