Wesley R. Wood
Wesley “Wes” R. Wood, 32, of Vermontville, formerly of Nashville, died March 16, 1997, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mr. Wood was born Nov. 17, 1864, in Hastings, the son of Robert and Mary (Hummel) Wood. He graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1983 and from Michigan State University in 1986 with a degree in electrical technology. His employment includes Hickey Electric in Nashville and was currently employed at Union Pump in Battle Creek as an electrician. He married Kim Roush Sept. 12, 1987, in Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; two children, Angie and Kelly at home; parents, bob and Mary Wood of Nashville; two brothers, Ken (Debbi) of Nashville, and Bob Jr. (Carleen) of Vermontville; one sister, Robbin Glass of Nashville; grandparents, Joel and Gladys Hummel of Vermontville, and Viola Wood of Hastings; mother and father-in-law, Ray and Marilyn Roush of Nashville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Clara Belle Hummel; and grandfather, Lawerance Wood Sr.
Services were March 19 at the Maple Valley Chapel-Genther Funeral Home, Nashville, with the Rev. Rob VanEngen officiating. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wood children.
Gerald O. Woodman
Gerald O. Woodman, 77, of Battle Creek died Aug. 2, 1997.
Mr. Woodman was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Eaton Rapids, the son of Charlie Anderson and Beulah Woodman. He owned a service gas station.
He is survived by his wife, Lena; two sons, Gerald (Charlene) and Danny of Battle Creek; one daughter, Penny Ann Wilke of Battle Creek; two brothers, Robert (Marles) of Colorado and Bud (Mike) of Ohio; one sister, Jean Walter of Colorado; and six grandchildren.
Services were Aug. 8 at the Bosworth Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests fund donation be made to Borgess Intensive Care Unit or Visiting Nurses of Battle Creek.
Fred T. Wright
Fred Thomas Wright, 81, of Charlotte died Sept. 12, 1997.
Mr. Wright was born May 6, 1916, in Chester Township Eaton County, the son of Fred Thomas and Emma (Zimmerman) Wright. He worked as a truck driver for Johnson Lumber co. for 27 years. He was a member of the Conservation Corp.
He is survived by his daughter, Doris (Thomas) Moran of Eaton Rapids, Dorothy (Robert) Bennett of Battle Creek, and Dorene Bearndt of Eaton Rapids; two sons, Dick (Stephanie) Wright of Eaton Rapids and Phillip Thomas of Detroit; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Meeder of Eaton Rapids and Catherine Brown of Charlotte.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary.
Services were Sept. 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Steve Erkel officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery, Charlotte.
Funeral arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Betty J. Young
Betty J. Young, 70, of Venice died May 18, 1997.
Mrs. Young was born June 23, 1926 in Bath. She retired in 1968 as an assembly line worker for the Eaton Stamping Corp. after 10 years. She worked and volunteered as a caregiver in Venice. She was a Lutheran.
She is survived by her three daughters, Carol Lemm of Englewood, Ellen Pruden of Charlotte, and Bonnie McCoy of Battle Creek; son, Oswin Haines of Olivet; two sisters, Meg Barnhart of Holt and Genevieve Dear of Nokomis; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Batty Grant (Haines). Graveside service will be at Chapel Hill in Lansing on July 23, 1997.
Dale Arden Youngs
Dale Arden Youngs, 62, of Potterville died July 6, 1997.
Mr. Youngs was born March 11, 1935, in Lansing, the son of Alan King and Delores Leila (Davidson) Youngs. He worked in parking and security at the State of Michigan Management and Budget. He also served in the Marines from 1953-1955.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janice; daughters, Anita (Larry) Ruffner of Vermontville, and Amy (Marty) Whitehead of Stockbridge; 2 granddaughters; mother, Dolores Youngs of Elk Rapids; sisters, LaCorda (Richard) Smith of Elk Rapids, and Ardis (William) McLellan of Charlotte, N.C.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alan; brother, Royce; and sister, Joyce.
Services were July 9 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing.

Betty Lou Ziegler
Betty Lou (Speyer) Ziegler, 82, of Fernwood Manor Trailer Park, Bolton, died April 15, 1997.
Mrs. Ziegler was born Dec. 16, 1914, to Edward and Eva (Bailey) Speyer of Toledo, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband, Philip; two daughters, Diane (Paul) Hudson and Roxanne (William) Wolcott; one son, Greg (Judy) Ziegler; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Edward Speyer.
Services were April 19 at the Gifford Funeral Home, Richmond.

Pauline M. Zima
Pauline Madaline Zima, 84, of Charlotte died May 10, 1997.
Mrs. Zima was born in Gary, Ind., the daughter of Andrew and Victoria Michalski. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Charlotte and its Altar Society.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn of Charlotte, Margaret Johnson of Eaton Rapids and Shirley (George) Melvin of Albion; three grandchildren, Todd Burford and Stacey and Aaron Johnson; two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Travis Melvin; one brother, Matthew (Ella Mae) Michalski; one sister-in-law, Rhoda Michalski; and several nieces and nephews. During her lengthy illness she had a devoted and loving home care nurse, Maxine Collard, and other devoted care givers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two sisters; and three brothers.
Services were May 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlotte. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Grietje (Grace) Zomerman-Luxema
Grietje (Grace) Geessientje Zomerman Luxema, 88, of East Lansing and formerly of Potterville, died Oct. 4, 1997 in Burcham Hills.
She was born Sept. 15, 1909, in The Netherlands, the daughter of Willem and Aaltje (Dontje) Luxema.
She is survived by sons, Tonnis (Tonny) (and Bernadine Kay) Zomerman of Potterville and Willem (Bill) (and Judith Irene) Zomerman of Grand Ledge; a sister, Ge’ Lenting Luxema; and a brother, Harm Jan (Jopie) Luxema, both of The Netherlands; grandchildren, Irene, Joan, and Edd; and great-grandchildren, Courtney, Alex, and Catherine.
She was predeceased by her husband, Siverdinus Zomerman, in 1972.
Funeral services were Oct. 8 at Pray Funeral Home, with the Rev. Art Salisbury officiating.
