Glenn H. Alderson
Glenn H. Alderson, 67, of Bellevue died June 10, 1997, at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Alderson was born March 25, 1930, in Coal Springs, S.D., the son of Wallace and Irene (Briscoe) Alderson and was a graduate of Isabel High School, Isabel, S.D. Mr. Alderson served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at Fort Custer and Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek during World War II. He was a meat cutter at various grocery stores in Battle Creek and worked in several local factories as a carpenter in the 1950’s-60’s. Mr. Alderson founded and owned Dream Homes, Inc., an independent contracting and carpentry business during the 1970’s-80’s.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Annette; one son, Billy Ray; two daughters, Karen and Dawn Marie; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, John.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Toni Anderson, on June 17, 1984.
Services were held June 13 at the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Stephen Covert officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Theda B. Aleo
Theda B. Aleo, 87, of Onondaga died March 4, 1997, in Lansing.
Mrs. aloe was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Matherton, the daughter of Alpha and Gordie Etta (Willett) Sanford. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Eaton Rapids.
She is survived by three daughters, JoAnn (Allan) Ostrander of Onondaga, Fran (Art) Buelow of Lavonia, and Rosa (Bill) Risk of Lansing; two sons, Ronald (Jessie) Aleo of Mason and Duane (Dolly) Aleo of East Jordan; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1985, and one son, Donald, in 1988.
Mass of the Christian Burial was March 6 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with the Rev. David Stotenbur as Celebrant. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Martin Luther Holt Home.
Leatha B. Alverson
Leatha B. (Burnett) Alverson, 94, died Aug. 12, 1997, in Charlotte.
Mrs. Alverson was born June 23, 1903, in Onondaga, the daughter of Erlon and Mary (Luke) Burnett. She was a member of the Foundation Club of the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital.
She is survived by two sisters, Leola Gray and Mary Wimberley, both of Eaton Rapids; one niece, Carol Boumiea of Eaton Rapids; five grand nieces, Laura (Richard) Offen, Caroline Barnhart, Susanne (Jason) Pierce, Lori (Steven) Schnepp, and Mary Beth (Tim) Cole; three grand nephews, Stephen (Marlene) Curtis, Mark (Connie) Shaw, and Kevin Shaw; and two cousins, Gertrude Clough and Bonnie Jean Bodrie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Watson in 1977.
Services were Aug. 14 with the Rev. Wayne Foote officiating. Interment was in East Rives Cemetery, Rives Junction.
Sarah E. Ames
Sarah E. Ames, 86, of Charlotte died Oct. 18, 1997.
She was born Jan. 13, 1911, in Sunfield Township, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Van Buren) Smith. She was a farmer’s wife and mother. She was a member of the Gresham United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Just-A-Mere Club, the Eaton Association for FCE, the West Chester Extension Group, and the Widow’s Club.
She is survived by sons, Joseph (Linda) Ames of Manchester, Mich., and Herbert (Connie) Ames of Charlotte; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Adrian Smith of Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W., in 1982, daughter Susan Kay Ames in 1941, great-granddaughter, Angela L. Daniels in 1986, and brother, Clifton Smith in 1942.
Funeral services were Oct. 22 at Pray Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Bowman officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, Maple Valley Memorial Scholarship Fund, or Gresham United Methodist Church.
Iva R. Amspacher
Iva Ruth Amspacher, 102, of Charlotte died May 31, 1997, at Emery’s Adult Foster Care Home, Vermontville.
Mrs. Amspacher was born Dec. 28, 1894, in Kalamo Township, the daughter of Ernest and Adeline Granger. She graduated from Vermontville High School in 1913. She married Floyd Amspacher Oct. 25, 1917, and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. She was a lifetime member of the N.W. Carmel Community Church and later joined the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. She participated as a 4-H club leader for 25 years; Farm Bureau; Eaton County and Vermontville Historical Society; Charlotte and Vermontville Garden Club; and volunteered 1,000 hours at Ft. Custer Hospital’s Greenhouse.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Russ of Charlotte; one grandson, Lee Russ of Charlotte; one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Lee Russ; one sister, Marjorie Childs of Vermontville; one brother, Keith (Josepha) Granger of Lansing; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 1982; one son-in-law, Harrison Russ; one granddaughter, Linda Russ; two sisters, Gertrude Tyler and Mildred Carey; and one brother, Dorr Granger.
Services were June 4 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.
Arthur W. Andrews
Arthur W. Andrews, 80, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Nov. 21, 1997.
Mr. Andrews was born in Chester Township, the son of Arthur Garfield and Birdie (Baker) Andrews. He was a lifelong resident of Eaton County. He served in the Army in World War II and had been employed by Eaton Corporation of Battle Creek, Aluminum Extrusions of Charlotte, and Hayes Albion Corp., from which he retired in 1979. He married Zella Southward Feb. 14, 1946.
He is survived by one daughter, Eldora (David) Howe of Charlotte; three sons, Melvin (Sharon) of Coldwater, Donald (Pamela) of Charlotte, and Ronald (Linda) of Athens; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Julia (Charlie) Wixon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zella; his parents; one sister, Bea Poor; and three brothers, Harry, Harold, and Max.
Services were Nov. 25 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte with the Rev. David Ames and the Rev. Charles Moreland officiating. Military graveside services and interment were in the Perry Cemetery, Brookfield Township.

Robert W. Archer
Robert William Archer, 47 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Charlotte died Jan. 27, 1997.
Mr. Archer was born Aug. 17, 1949, in Charlotte, the son of Virgil and Katherine (Westrick) Archer. He was a former partner in the Meeks and Archer Law Firm in Grand Rapids. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and of the University of Michigan cum laude.
He is survived by his parents; six brothers, Carl (Linda) of Bellevue, Gerald (Sandra) of Charlotte; Lawrence of Grand Rapids, Charles (Amy) of Kalamazoo, Jeffrey Scott of Sarasota, Fla., and Donald (Karen) of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, LuAnn (John) Potter of Eaton Rapids; and Carol Archer of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth in 1973, and William in 1987.
Services were Jan. 30 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Father Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery, Carmel Township.
Doris L. Bahr
Doris L. Bahr, 70, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Feb. 26, 1997, at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte, after a long illness.
Mrs. Bahr was born in Piper City, Ill., the daughter of and Leatha (Lighty) Collins, and had been a resident of the Charlotte/Olivet area for over 50 years. She had owned and operated adult foster care homes in the Charlotte and Olivet area for many years.
She is survived by one son, Wayne (Kathleen) Jones of Litchfield; one daughter, Karen (George) Whitcomb of Olivet; one stepson, Charles Bahr of Charlotte; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Wells of Fairbury, Ill., and Melvina Feltner of Albion; and three brothers, Richard Collins of Weidman, Ernest Serene of Albion, and Edward Serene of Muskegon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth in 1984; one sister, Zora Hess; and two brothers, Clarence and Allen Serene.
Services were March 1 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Peter Brenner officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Virginia M. Baird
Virginia Marie (Chase) Baird, 81, of Charlotte and Ellenton, Fla., died Jan. 11, 1997, at her residence in Florida.
Mrs. Baird was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Midland, the daughter of John and Rosa (Cukerman) Chase. She married George Baird in 1937, in Midland. She was a resident of Caro from 195101978, and was active in her husband’s business, Baird’s Air Seal of Caro. While living in Caro, she was active at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, M.S.U. Extension Club, the Caro Lions Club Auxiliary, the Caro Firefighters Auxiliary, and the Republican Party. She had been a resident of Sage Lake, Charlotte, and Ellenton Gardens in Ellenton, Fla. since 1978.
She is survived by one son, James (Jeanne) Baird of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Michael Baird, Leanna Kyre, Dianna Baird, and Joanna (Charles) Malcuit; two great-grandchildren, John Eric Kyre, and Jacob Malcuit; one brother, Leo (Helen) Chase of Bay City; and four sisters, Evelyn (Floyd) Rezska of Beaverton, Bernice Collicker of Bay City, Rosa Phelps of Davison, and Clare (David) Plamondon of Gaylord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1985; two brothers, Frank and Tony Chase; and one sister, Mary Kneeshaw.
Services were Jan. 15 at the Ware-Smith-Wolever Funeral Chapel, Midland, with the Rev. Father John Bellon of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church officiating. Interment was in the Midland Cemetery.
