Don R. Baker
Don R. Baker, 66, of Charlotte died Oct. 27, 1997.
Mr. Baker was born April 17, 1931 in Vermontville, the son of Willis and Dona Baker. He worked in the paint department at B.O.C. in Lansing until his retirement in 1991. He also owned and operated Speedway Market from 1973 and 1989. Mr. Baker was a union committee man; member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Michigan Snowmobile Association, Eaton Special Riders Volunteer Association, and the American Quarterhorse Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna (Dan) Walker of Charlotte; six sons, Rod (Deb) Baker, Brian (Lynn) Baker, Mark Newman, Todd Newman, all of Charlotte, and Noel (Wendy) Baker of Jenision; two sisters, Helen Hughes of Marshall and Frances (Francis) Haff of Grand Ledge; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlotte, with Father Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Rebecca J. Baker
Rebecca “Becki” Joy Baker, 33, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Charlotte and Lansing, died Feb. 21, 1997, at the home of her parents in Nashville of natural causes.
Miss Baker was the daughter of Richard and Carol Baker of Nashville. She was a graduate of Charlotte High School and attended Lansing Community College. She was employed by Target in Nashville and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Charlotte, where she sang in the choir and musicals.
She is survived by her parents; one sister, Andrea Baker-Curry, and her son and two daughters, of Nashville; and a foster brother, Rick (Pam) McGrandy, and their two sons and four daughters, all of Bay City.
Services were Feb. 25 at the Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, Nashville. Memorial services are Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating.

Sandra Baker
Sandra Rae Baker, 57, of Lansing, formerly of Grand Ledge, died March 29, 1997.
Mrs. Baker was a former accountant with Millbrook Printing Company, attended the Delta Mills United Methodist Church, and worked with Native American children as a missionary in New Mexico.
She is survived by three daughters, Amy Baker of Charlotte, Bethany (Ed) Ady of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Melanie Baker of Lansing; two sons, Matthew (Chris) of Albert, Colo., and Mark of Lansing; six grandchildren; her parents, Harland and Charlotte Mingus of Lansing; and one brother, Harland Jr. “Butch” (Margaret) Mingus of Lansing.
Services were April 1 at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lansing.
Memorial contributions to Sisters Maternity Home-Women’s Shelter would be appreciated.
Thomas J. Barnard
Thomas J. Barnard, 64, of Charlotte died Saturday, June 21, 1997.
Mr. Barnard was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Charlotte, the son of Murle and Marion A. (Rulison) Barnard. He had worked as a laborer in a warehouse.
He is survived by his mother; and brother, Robert (LouAnn) Barnard of Ocala, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace in 1992.
Graveside services were June 26 at the Needmore Cemetery, Eaton County, with Pastor Jerry Slivensky officiating. If desired, fund donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Charlotte. Envelopes are available at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Charlene M. Barnes
Charlene M. Barnes, 63, of Vermontville died May 23, 1997, at Michigan Capital Medical Center, Greenlawn Campus, Lansing.
Mrs. Barnes was born Nov. 8, 1933, in Nashville, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Winslow) Wenger. She attended school in Nashville and graduated from Nashville High in 1951. She married Gaylord Barnes Nov. 17, 1951. She retired from Care Free Window Mfg. in Charlotte in 1992, as a foreman, after 26 years of service. With her husband, she owned and operated a chicken farm in Vermontville. She was a former member of the Woodland Eagles Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Luanne (Linden) Aspinall of Vermontville, Janet (Keith) Lowe of Sunfield and Kathy (Brian) Strahan of Vermontville; eight grandchildren, Lucas and Jennifer Forquer, John and Jeff Aspinall, and Michael, Matthew, Heather and Rachel Strahan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord in 1974.
Services were May 28 at the Maple Valley Chapel-Genther Funeral Home, Nashville. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.

Adam Barnett
Adam Barnett, 80, of Springport died Oct. 28, 1997 at the home he lived at for 23 years.
Mr. Barnett was born April 5, 1917 in Magoffin County, Ken., the son of Frank and Bertha (Perkins) Barnett. He worked for Gale Manufacturing and Malleable Iron and Warren Sherer until 1978 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God, Olivet. He married Ollie (Cole) Barnett on Feb. 4, 1937 in Grassy Creek, Ken.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ollie; two sons, Don (Janice) Barnett of Bellevue and Barry (Carol) Barnett of Battle Creek; three daughters, Faye L. (Lowell) Greene of Grand Rapids, Judy (Lester) Robinson of Olivet, and Cindy (Dale) Waun of Olivet; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Bartlett and Anna Williams; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 31 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Pastor Tom McLane, Todd McLane, and Winiford Collins officiating. Interment was in the Rice Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice or the Faith Assembly of God.
Thomas B. Barrett
Thomas Bruce Barrett, 52, of Charlotte died March 26, 1997.
Mr. Barrett was born Aug. 27, 1944, in Charlotte, the son of Bruce and Esther (Howard) Barrett. He owned and operated the Sweetwater Country Store in Vermontville.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Tracy (Kelly) Sparks of Oconto, Neb., and Kimberly Barrett of Callaway, Neb.; one son, Bruce (Sara) of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Nicole, Thomas, Kaitlin, and Cody; three sisters, Ruth Wolcott, Jeanette (Bud) Tinkey, and Donna (Oscar) Face, all of Charlotte; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Barrett of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack.
Services were March 29 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Duane Royston officiating. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery, Eaton County.
Rev. Gerald R. Bates
Rev. Gerald R. Bates, 72, of Lake Odessa died Oct. 30, 1997, in Charlotte.
The Rev. Bates was born in Hastings, the son of Erwin and Florence (Schneider) Bates. He was raised in the Lake Odessa area, ordained in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and had served Michigan congregations in Adamsville, Kessington, Reed City, Leighton Township, Battle Creek Calvary, Lansing Trinity United Methodist, Lowell, and St. Louis United Methodist Church, from which he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mardelle (Harms) Bates; two daughters, Sandra Purcell of Marshall and Adrene Bates of Charlotte; one son, Kevin (Debbie) Bates of Rochester; two granddaughters; three sisters, Doris Flessner and Janice Flanigan both of Woodland, and Sherry Koewers of Kalamazoo; and one brother, Dennis Bates of Carey, Ill.
Services were Nov. 3 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lansing. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
