Royce E. Pugh
Royce (Roy) E. Pugh, 51, of Eaton Rapids died Oct. 31, 1997, of a heart attack.
Mr. Pugh was born Aug. 7, 1946, Lansing, the son of Leon and Rama (Gray) Pugh. He graduated in 1964 from Everett High School, Lansing, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Navy Seabee’s. He was employed by the state of Michigan and retired from the city of Lansing’s Development and Planning Division in 1994, and had been currently employed by H&R Block as a tax preparer. He was also an assistant building inspector for Aurelius Township. He was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids, and had been a member of the Miller Road Bible Church, Lansing. He was a volunteer coordinator with the American Red Cross, Tri-County Meals on Wheels, and was very active in the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Terri; one daughter, Michelle (Chris) Rockhold of Leslie; two sons, Shannon Pugh and Chris Pugh, both of Eaton Rapids; one sister, Ruth A. Pugh of Lansing; one niece, Kiersten Pugh of Lansing; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his very special extended family, Tom and Billie Hodson of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Amy, and his parents.
Services were Nov. 4 at Robbins United Methodist Church with the Pastor Marty Debow officiating. Interment was in the North Cemetery, Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Red Cross.
Virginia V. Pulliam
Virginia V. Pulliam, 70, of Bellevue died March 12, 1997, at the Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Pulliam was born May 23, 1926, in Detroit, the daughter of Wallenty and Phillomena Sieczkowski. She married Richard Pulliam Sr. Dec. 15, 1945, in Detroit. She was a homemaker, and active in the Disabled American Veterans’ Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine (Ronald) Anderson of Comstock Park; one son, Richard (Shelley) of Bellevue; one grandson, Eric Anderson; and three brothers, Theodore Sieczkowski of Schevenus, N.Y., valentine Sieczkowski of Warren, Ohio, and Thomas Sieczkowski of Port St. Lucia, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in July 1995.
Services were March 14 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Howard J. Richter
Howard J. Richter, 91, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Lake Odessa, died Oct. 4, 1997, at Moore’s Adult Foster Care Home, Charlotte.
Mr. Richter was born Nov. 27, 1905, in Dorr, the son of Joseph and Jessie (Brown) Richter. He was a retired General Motor’s employee and life member of the Lake Odessa Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Muriel (Don) Shinaver of Fenwick; one son, John (Carol) Richter of Utica; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Betty (Harold) Buchholz of Grand Ledge and Barbara (Neal) Riggs of Grand Haven; five step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Mildred Miller of White Cloud and Marcella Swifink of Grand Rapids.
Services were Oct. 6 at the Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with the Rev. Frank Lyman officiating. Masonic graveside services followed at the Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa.
Orval Ripley
Orval “Tom” Ripley, 77, of Marshall, died Sept. 11, 1997, at the Marshall Manor Nursing Home after a long illness.
Mr. Ripley was born in Walton Township, Eaton County, the son of Harry and Olive Carrie Mae (Anderson) Ripley. He was a life long Lee Township resident. He had worked at the Air Way Mfg. Co., Olivet, G. O. Lewis Construction Co. and DeBruin Produce Farms, as well as being a farmer.
He is survived by his son, Walter Ripley of Marshall; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Oral Ripley of Marshall; and 3 sisters, Pauline Ordiway of Kingsley, Joliet Sebastian of Charlotte, and Julia Cox of Albion.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Thelma M. Hatton; his parents; 4 sisters, Georgia Pierce, Virginia Long, Dorothy Aumick, and Maxine Goodnoe; 2 brothers, Arlo Ripley and Aaron Ripley.
Services and interment were Sept. 15 at the Lee Center Cemetery, Lee Township, with the Rev. Valerie Hill officiating. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Lucy E. Rise
Lucy E. Rise, 96, of Sunfield died April 11, 1997.
Mrs. Rise was born Jan. 2, 1901, in Sunfield, the daughter of Jacob and Frances Hoover, and was the oldest of seven children. She married Ralph Rise in 1918. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Roberts of Lake Odessa; one son, Zack; four grandsons, Jack Estep of Saranac, Douglas Rise of Bay City, Michael Rise of Sunfield and Brian Rise of Midland; four granddaughters, Janice Bingaman of Syracuse, N.Y., Joanne Hodges of Midland, Bonnie Foltz of Sunfield and Carla Smith of Nashville; 17 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Neil; daughter, Louise; husband, Ralph; one brother, and five sisters.
Services were April 14 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield. Interment was in the Dale Cemetery, Beaverton.
Doris P. Roach
Doris P. Roach, 83, formerly of Onondaga, died June 7, 1997, after a 10-year battle with leukemia.
Mrs. Roach was born Feb. 25, 1914, the daughter of Earl and Mary Short of Morrice. She worked at the Goodyear Rubber and Tire Co. of Jackson during World War II and was a retired licensed practical nurse from Lansing General Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores (Rodger) Burnett of Mesick; three sons, Roger Steele of Georgia, James (Marilyn Joan) Steele of Charlotte, and Thomas (Sheila) Roach of Leslie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lenore (Arthur) Reed of Jackson and Florance (Floyd) Hoose of Perry.
Services were June 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Morrice, with Fr. Matthew Fedewa officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia or Diabetes associations.
Kenneth P. Robinson Sr.
Kenneth Paul Robinson Sr., 60, of Potterville died March 22, 1997.
Mr. Robinson was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Browning, Mo., the son of Archie and Agnes Robison. He was retired from B.O.C. in Lansing. He was a veteran of the Air Force. He was the mayor of Potterville since January 1995, and had served on the council since August 1981. He was a long-time active member of the Potterville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, Thomas (Donna) Robinson of Charlotte and Ken Robinson Jr. of Potterville; one daughter, Mary (Jamie Graf) Robinson of Hesperia, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Jacob, Gracie, Kaitlyn and Caleb; three brothers, John, Don, and Jim Robison; and two sisters, Carol Billings and Ruth Cole.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and a brother, Roscoe.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon following, at the Potterville United Methodist Church, Potterville, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville Lions or Lioness Club.
Alice M. Rochester
Alice M. Rochester, 86, of Eaton Rapids, died April 23, 1997, in Charlotte.
Mrs. Rochester was born March 8, 1911, in Manteno, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Cadieux) Paquette.
She is survived by two daughters, Eliose Bainbridge of Holt and Loreen (Warren) Bertram of Lansing; three sons, Robert (Bertha) of Yellville, Ark., and Merle (Daisy) and Wilson (Marilyn), both of Eaton Rapids; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister-in-law, Gladys Burns of Charlotte; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo, in 1991.
Services were April 26 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Charles Herrick officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
