John W. Weber
John W. Weber, 90, of Olivet died Nov. 30, 1997, at the Twin Creeks Adult Foster Care, Olivet, after an extended illness.
Mr. Weber was born in Henrico, Va.; the son of John and Rosa (Clark) Weber. He has been a resident of Lee Township, Calhoun County, since 1915. He was a lifelong dairy and grain farmer. He attended the former Lee Center School, had been a member of the Methodist church where he had served as Sunday School treasurer, and had been a member of the former Olivet Grange and Eaton County Pomona Grange.
There are no immediate survivors, but a host of close friends and caregivers.
Services were Dec. 3 at the Burkhead-Green Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Valerie Hill officiating. Interment was in the Lee Center Cemetery.

Martha Wellman
Martha Wellman, 76, of Vermontville died Aug. 15, 1997, at Sparrow Hospital.
Mrs. Wellman was born June 10, 1921, the daughter of William and Mildred Worstell (Melbrain) in Uniontown, Penn. She married Keith Wellman of Sunfield in 1992.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlene King; two sons, Richard (Joyce) Buckley and Robert (Ruth) Buckley; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Buckley, and one son, Roger Buckley.
Services were Aug. 19 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Interment was in the North Eagle Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Rosier Funeral Home Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunfield United Methodist Church or the family.
Lois I. Wesh
Lois Irene (Carpenter) Wesh, 94, of Charlotte died March 14, 1997.
Mrs. Wesh was born Aug. 25, 1902, in Marshall, the daughter of Edwin and Margaret (McInroy) Carpenter. She attended school in Marshall and Battle Creek and was employed for 25 years with the former American-Marsh Pumps and then worked with her husband at Wesh Tax and Accounting Service until his death. She married Lester Wesh Jan. 21, 1934, in Angola, Ind. She was a member of the Marshall Women’s Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Albert) Sidnam of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Irene Sidnam of Lansing; five great-grandchildren, Mary Margaret Hall of Potterville, Steve (Alicia) Courtright and Lorraine Cady of Lansing, Tammy Courtright of Missouri, and Amy Powell of Florida; two great-great-grandchildren, Ashli Hall and Sara Courtright; and one nephew, Thomas Parkinson of Detroit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; one granddaughter, Margaret Caruthers; and two sisters, Mabel Buckinham and Janet Parkinson.
There will be no services. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Robert E. West
Robert E. West, 77, of Eaton Rapids died Jan. 29, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. West was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Eaton Rapids, the son of Alva and Vera (Decker) West. He was a lifelong resident of Eaton Rapids, served with the 63rd Army Infantry during World War II, and retired from Teamster’s Union Local #580. He was an active volunteer in the community; a life member of the F&AM Lodge #63 and life member of OES #241, both of Eaton Rapids; member of American Legion Harold Teeter Post #15 Eaton Rapids; past president of the Eaton Rapids Rotary Club; and member of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by two sisters, Norabelle Reese of Eaton Rapids and Darlene (Roger) Sederlund of Charlotte; goddaughter, Natascha Ferguson of Gaylord; four nieces and nephews, Ann (Jack) Seger of Springport, Donaldine (Leonard) Fulcher of Eaton Rapids, Rick (Donna) Sederlund, and Stacy (Joe) Edick all of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Swartz) in 1988.
Services were Feb. 1 at the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Dennis Perkins officiating. Masonic services were Jan. 31, conducted by Eaton Rapids F&AM #63 with Kenneth Spencer as Chaplin. Graveside military services were conducted by the Harold Teeter Post #15 at the Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Abraham C. Wheeler
Abraham “A.C.” Cowles Wheeler, 95, of Charlotte died Jan. 31, 1997.
Mr. Wheeler was born Sept. 14, 1901, in Bloomingdale, the son of Obiadiah, and Lula (Conn) Wheeler. He was a streetcar operator in Lansing while in college, worked for many years in the transportation department, and had been a bus supervisor for the Potterville School System until his retirement. He was a member of the Potterville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, James of Nashville, and Paul of Detroit; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Tessman of Traverse City, Esther (Earl) Randall of Grand Rapids, and Marguerite Zimmerman of Dimondale; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Wheeler of Dansville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and one son, Gardner.
Services were Feb. 4 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor John Buker officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Harold G. Whitaker
Harold George Whitaker, 86, of Charlotte died March 21, 1997, at his residence after a short illness.
Mr. Whitaker was born in Eaton Township, Eaton County, the son of George and Nellie (Andrews) Whitaker and had been a lifelong Eaton County resident. He was a lifelong farmer and had been employed by the Eaton County Road Commission retiring in 1975 after 22 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (Tyler); children, Steve (Diane) of Bellevue, Connie (Herb) Ames and Rodney (Vicki) all of Charlotte, Dan (Michelle) of Potterville, Jacqueline (David) Ames of Charlotte, and Virgil (Pat) Carter of Flint; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Little of Charlotte and Myrtle Hillard of Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by daughter Jean Carter Fuller, in 1983.
Services were March 24 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with grandson Pastor Michael Fuller and Pastor Scoot Brood officiating.
Interment was in the Center Eaton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Alta L. White
Alta L. (Peterson) White, 91, of Eaton Rapids, died Aug. 15, 1997.
Mrs. White was the daughter of Darius Harold and Gertrude Ellen (Huntington) Peterson. She was a member of the Griffith United Methodist Church and very active in Rebekah Sunshine Lodge #142.
She is survived by one sister, Helen Eglon of Springport; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Soderberg of Lansing and Doris Peterson of Florida; several nieces, nephews, and one grand niece, Kimberlee (Dan) Lindeman of Onstead.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Lyle, and Elmer Peterson.
Services were Aug. 18 at the Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Robert Krauss officiating and memorial tribute by the Eaton Rapids Rebekah Sunshine Lodge. Arrangements were made by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
H. Rhuel Wickham
H. Rhuel Wickham, 86, of Charlotte died June 29, 1997, at the Tendercare Nursing Home, Marshall, after an extended illness.
Mr. Wickham was born in Charlotte, the son of Warren and Inah (Weaver) Wickham. He lived most of his life in Charlotte and Benton, Ken., for several years after retiring, returning to Charlotte about five years ago. He had been a milk carrier for the farmer Orchard Grove Dairy, school bus driver for the Charlotte schools, and had also been employed by the Callender Sign Co., Charlotte. He was also a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte, and while living in Benton, attended the First Methodist Church there.
He is survived by one daughter, Joyce Bearden of Kentucky; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and one sister, Ruth Laubaugh of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; one daughter, Sharon Lee; and one brother, Glen.
Services were held on July 1 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
