Brent A. Jewell
Brent A. Jewell, 36, of Lake Odessa passed away Oct. 11, 1997, as a result of a car accident in Eaton County.
Mr. Jewell was born Jan. 16, 1961, in Lansing. He graduated from Lakewood High School. In 1979 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Military police and was honorably discharged. He was presently employed at Mollers in Grand Rapids as a welder.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; son, Spencer; daughter, Amber; brother, Todd of Okemos; mother, Evelyn Jewell; father, Robert Jewell of Sunfield; sister, Tara Clark of Sunfield; step-sister, Cindy Jewell of California; step brother, Robert Allen Jewell of Belding; grandmother, Rev. Emma Jewell of Lansing; and grandfather, Paul Dunkin of Faulmouth.
Military services were held at the Sunfield Cemetery Oct. 15, with the Rev. Harris officiating. Arrangements were made by the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield.

Beverly J. Jewett
Beverly J. (Young) Jewett, 60, of Kansas City, Miss., formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 22, 1997, in Kansas City.
Mrs. Jewett was born in Grand Rapids, the daughter of William and Alice (Perrault) Young. She was a 1955 graduate of Charlotte High School, she was Valedictorian of her class. She was a telephone operator having retired from AT&T with 21 years of service. Mrs. Jewett was previously employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.
She is survived by one son, Rob (Andrea) Jewett of Charlotte; one daughter, Kelly (Mark) Wojtysiak of Webberville; one granddaughter; one brother, Richard (Char) Young of Leslie; and two sisters, Pam Young of Lansing and Linda (Tom) Rolph of Burley, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Rusty Young.
Cremation took place. Services are to be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Charles E. Johnson
Charles “Charlie” Ervin Johnson, 51, of Jackson died May 22, 1997, at his home.
Mr. John was born in Charlotte on Jan. 27, 1946, the son of Paul Revere and Bessie Loretta (Whitaker) Johnson. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army’s 25th Armored Division.
He is survived by one daughter, Amanda of Florida; one brother, Paul (Carol) of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Services and interment were May 28 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements were made by Burden and Son Funeral Home of Jackson.
Mabel M. Jones
Mabel M. Jones, 92, of Charlotte died Dec. 31, 1996, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mrs. Jones was born April 22, 1904, in Nevada, MO., the daughter of William and Birdie Ann (Bratcher) Wright. She married Harold Jones on Jan. 14, 1922. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ionia, joining in 1936. She was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Rebekah Lodge, charter member and past president of the Church Women United in Ionia; and was involved in the Ionia Charter Centennial as a seamstress.
She is survived by two sons, Meredyth “Spud” (Roberta) of Charlotte, and Richard (Betty Jane) of Dearborn; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, Nov. 22, 1975; grandson, Donald “Ike” Jones in 1996; three brothers; and one sister.
Services were Jan. 4 at the Myers Memorial Chapel, Ionia; with the Rev. James Bennett officiating. Interment was in the Balcom Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Order of the Eastern Star.
Thomas Joseph Jones
Thomas Joseph Jones, 89, of Charlotte died Oct. 3, 1997.
Mr. Jones was born May 13, 1908, in Eaton County, the son of Clinton and Eva (Shirts) Jones. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Beulah Greenman Bowers on Sept. 26, 1952. He was an electrician for Indiana and Michigan Electric Co. for 20 years. He was a member of the VFW 720 in Phoenix, Ariz., and a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beulah; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister Grace Miller of Charlotte; nephew Wellington (Bill) Miller of Hastings; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Oct. 6 at Pray Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing.
Donation may be made to Eaton Manor Nurses and Aides.
Janice E. Joppie
Janice E. Joppie, 72, of Charlotte died Nov. 18, 1997 at her residence after a short illness.
Mrs. Joppie was born in Vermontville the daughter of Earl and Irene (Hager) Hadden. She has been a lifelong resident of the Charlotte and Vermontville area.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Russell W. Joppie; four sons, William of Vermontville, Richard (Diane) of San Antonio, TX, Ronald (Diane) of Charlotte, and Randy (Judy) of Rockford; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eloise (Lewis) Link of Wayland, Norma (John) Atanasoff of Lansing, and Mary Ochlemacher of Lansing; one sister-in-law, Mary Jean Hadden of Wayland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jerry; and two brothers, Robert and James Hadden.
Services were Nov. 21 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Charles R. Kane
Charles R. Kane, 65, of Charlotte died March 9, 1997, at Michigan Capitol Medical Center, Greenlawn Campus after a long illness.
Mr. Kane was born in Charlotte, the son of Leo and Ola (Hutchins) Kane and had been a lifelong resident of Charlotte. He was a furnace installer at Kane Heating and Ventilating Company in Charlotte where he had worked since 1952.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Babcock); four children, Gary (Kim) Kane of Charlotte, Kathleen (Bill) Tully of Raymond, Wash., Karen (Paul) Wilson of Charlotte, and James of Honolulu, Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, John of Galveston, Texas, Lyle (Alice) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Francis “Frank” (Bobby) of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Laura Hawley of Howard City and Dora (Robert) Klaiss of Eaton Rapids; and his mother-in-law, Lena Babcock of Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence; and one sister-in-law, Metta Lee Kane.
Services were March 13 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Vera I. Keesler
Vera I. (McFarland) Keesler, 88, of Florida, formerly of Charlotte and Guliver, died Sept. 8, 1997.
Mrs. Keesler was born Oct. 4, 1908, in Charlotte, the daughter of Melvin and Emma (Raymond) Shaver. She and her husband ran the Hitching Post in Guliver from 1954 to 1980.
She is survived by her son, Bob (Ellen) McFarland of Marshall; 5 granddaughters; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard McFarland.
Private services were Sept. 11 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, with the Rev. Duane Royston officiating. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
