Laurence D. Kelley Sr.
Laurence D. Kelley Sr., 76, of Charlotte, died Oct. 26, 1997.
Mr. Kelley was born June 27, 1921, in Cement City, the son of William and Feleneice (Hand) Kelley. He married Genevieve Siple Feb. 20, 1943 in Jackson. He was a CPL Medic in the U.S. Army during World War II; member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte; American Legion; Brookfield F & AM Lodge #429; and Brookfield Order of the Eastern Star #352 O.E.S. He was a lifelong farmer and had been a corrugator for Owens-Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; one son, Laurence Jr. of Charlotte; one daughter, Mildred Kelley of Battle Creek; three grandsons, Michael, William, and Jeffrey Kelley; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert of Jackson and Paul of Brooklyn.
Services were Oct. 29 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Dr. Charles Moore officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery.
Robert Louis Kellogg Sr.
Robert Louis Kellogg Sr. (Bee Keeper Bob), 69, of Charlotte went home suddenly to be with the Lord Aug. 12, 1997.
Mr. Kellogg was born in Lansing, the son of Erman and Mabel (Dolton) Kellogg. He was a Tool Room Employee of Oldsmobile and retired in 1987. He was also a former member of the Miller Road Church, member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, and a beekeeper for 55 years.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Laura Genevieve; daughter, Vicki Curry of Lansing; 4 sons, James E. (Kathy) Stewart of Grand Ledge, Dennis M. (Barbara) Kellogg of Eaton Rapids, Robert D. (Tina) Kellogg of Charlotte, and Richard L. (April) Kellogg of Englewood, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Leon (Betty) Kellogg of Holt, and Jay (Elizabeth) Kellogg of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Eleanor Smith and Doris Hawn; and brother, Charles Updyke.
Services were Aug. 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Interment was in the Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lansing City Rescue Mission or the First Baptist Church of Charlotte.
Celia M. Kilgore
Celia M. Kilgore, 96, of Bellevue died Nov. 19, 1997 in her home.
Mrs. Kilgore was born Aug. 13, 1901, in Cass County, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Vale) Bundy. She married Henry M. Kilgore in 1920. She was a member of the Bellevue First Baptist Church, Bellevue, Sr. Citizens Association and was a lifelong member of the Charlotte VFW Post #2408 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas Kilgore of Vermontville and James Kilgore of Battle Creek; three daughters, Faye M. Siegrist of Delton, Helen N. Rogers of Battle Creek, and Sharon K. Windon of Bellevue; 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathryn M. Lewis of White Pigeon and Marion Lynn of Mesick.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Clarence W. Kilgore, Richard Kilgore, and Eston J. Kilgore; one daughter, Betty R. Starkweather; two brothers, Harold and Kenneth Bundy; and one sister, Bessie Jewell.
Services were Nov. 21 at the Bellevue First Baptist Church, with the Pastor Don Francis officiating.
Interment was in Little Fish Lake Cemetery, Wakelee. Arrangements were made by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Margaret J. (Day) Kilgore
Margaret J. (Day) Kilgore, 77, of Bellevue died Sept. 24, 1997, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Kilgore was born in Bellevue Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Underhill) Day and was a lifelong area resident. She attended the Bellevue United Methodist Church and held memberships in the 20th Century Club, Chatter Club, and Bellevue Conservation Club. She had done volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, the former Eaton County “County Farm”, Fort Custer Home for the Retarded, and was a Red Cross volunteer at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte. She had also volunteered for the March of Dimes, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Society.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean Ann (Richard) Hall of Charlotte; one son, Dan (Sue) of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Georgia Smith of McAllen, Texas, and June Smith of East Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1994, and by one sister, Louise Marks.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services are Monday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. at the Bellevue UMC with Pastor Mark Thompson and Dr. William Sanders officiating.
Interment of the cremains will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellevue UMC or Bellevue Conservation Club.
Soon H. Kim
Soon Hee Kim, 90, of Olivet died Nov. 27, 1997, at her residence.
Mrs. Kim was born in Korea and had been an Olivet resident for over 25 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Grace (Richard) Kim of Olivet and Bonnie (Edward) Kim of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were Nov. 30 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Se Bong Im officiating. Interment was in the Plainfield Township Cemetery, Kent County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Battle Creek Seventh Day Adventist Korean Church.
Gladys I. King
Gladys I. King, 89, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Vermontville, died Dec. 14, 1997 at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
Mrs. King was born in Eaton Rapids Township, the daughter of Joseph E. and Emma J. (Sowles) Disbrow. She has been a lifelong Charlotte and Vermontville area resident. She was a 1927 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School and a 1928 graduate of Eaton County Normal. Mrs. King retired as a teacher in 1973 after 33 years of teaching. She taught many different classes. she was a member of the Michigan Retired Teachers Association, had been active as a 4-H Leader, and enjoyed teaching Bible School in Vermontville.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Ohm of Nashville and Diane (Robert) Stoddard of Portage; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward B. King; three sisters, Lucille Herrick, Arvilla Schance, and Lepha Hawkins; and one brother, J. Disbrow.
Services were Dec. 18 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Dora Louise Klaiss
Dora Louise Klaiss, 72, of Eaton Rapids died July 5, 1997, at the Michigan Capital Healthcare Center in Lansing.
Mrs. Klaiss was the daughter of Loyd and Lena (Briggs) Babcock. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Dora was a former employee at A.E. Hoover, working as a secretary and later as a draftsman.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Robert; sons, Robert (Gail) Klaiss of Georgia and Dennis Vale of Montana; daughters, Teresa (Mark) Fryer of Canada, Cindy Cameron of Missouri, Debora (Melvin) Crowley of Eaton Rapids, Roxy (Steven) Kellogg of Florida, and Coquette (Ernest) Carrick of Bellaire; 17 grandchildren; sisters, Laura Hawley and Beverly Kane; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 2, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Elders Richard Garn and Melvin Crowley will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Robert E. Klaiss
Robert E. Klaiss, 73, of Charlotte died Oct. 19, 1997.
Mr. Klaiss was born March 21, 1924, in Charlotte, the son of Chauncey and Rena E. (Kent) Klaiss. He was the owner of Bob Klaiss T.V. Repair until his retirement in 1977. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Charlotte Fire Department. Mr. Klaiss moved to Florida in 1977 and resided there until 1990.
He is survived by 8 children, Kathy Fisher of Flagstaff, Ariz., Robert H. (Alma) Klaiss of Georgia, Coquette (Ernie) Carrick of Bellaire, Dennis Vale of Montana, Roxy (Steve) Kellogg of Florida, Debra (Mel) Crowley of Eaton Rapids, Cindy Cameron of Missouri, and Teresa (Mark) Fryer of Canada; mother-in-law, Lena Babcock of Blanchard; 17 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora.
Services were Oct. 23 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Elder Richard Garn officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Fire Department.
