Barbara J. Harris
Barbara J. Harris, 62, of Olivet died Jan. 9, 1997, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, where she was taken after being stricken at home.
Mrs. Harris was born in Marshall, the daughter of Leo and Florence (Weers) Boysen, and was a lifelong Olivet area resident. She was a 1952 graduate of Olivet High School, attended the Nashville Baptist Church, and was employed as a claims representative at State Farm Insurance Company in Marshall where she had worked for over 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; one daughter, Lori (Deano) Lamphere of Chatham, Va.; one son, Martin (Marie) Harris of Springport; four grandchildren, Joshua, Eric, and Adam Lamphere and Kayla Harris; and two sisters, Joan (Douglas) Dadow of Battle Creek and Kathy (Bill) Struwin of Tekonsha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jerry Boysen; and one sister, Rosa Hackenburg.
Services were Jan. 13 at the Nashville Baptist Church, Nashville, with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Baptist Church Building Fund.
Arawana M. Hart
Arawana Mae Hart, 88, of Grand Ledge died April 27, 1997, in Charlotte.
Mrs. Hart was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Fayette County, Iowa. The family moved to Michigan in 1912 where she graduated from Muir High School and nurses training at Blodgett Memorial Hospital, Grand Rapids. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Fifty Plus Club, life member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #14 of Grand Ledge, the Telephone Pioneers of America, Michigan Farm Bureau and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Company (now Ameritech) in 1969, after 40 years as a service representative in the commercial office. She devoted her remaining years to volunteer service on behalf of senior citizens. Her numerous awards for community service included the “Silver Bowl” Carnation Award in 1988 by the Voluntary Action Center of Greater Lansing, and Friends for Life Senior Service Award in 1990 by the Tri-County Office on Aging with a tree planted as a lasting tribute in Frances Park, Lansing, marked with a commemorate bronze plaque.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jessie Chapman and Helen Bassett; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, E. Ralph Hart; parents, John and Mabel Bassett; three brothers, Arnold, Milford and Courtland Bassett; and one niece, Donna Bishop.
Services were April 29 at the Peter & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Interment was in the Delta Center Cemetery, Delta Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Scholarship Fund or the Grand Ledge Senior Citizens Center.
Max W. Hart
Max W. Hart, 90, of Olivet died May 7, 1997, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Hart was born in Grand Rapids, the son of Otis and Margaret (Stringham) Hart and had lived most of his life in the Bellevue and Olivet area. He was a 1923 graduate of Olivet High School and had been employed at the Lark Equipment Company, Battle Creek, from where he retired in 1972 after 28 years of service.
He is survived by three sons, Bruce (Elizabeth) Hart of Dallas, Texas; Barry (Mary) Hart of Charlotte and Benny Hart of Olivet; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, in August of 1973.
Graveside services and interment were May 10 at the Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue, with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made for Gideon Bibles.
Fern J. Hastings
Fern Janette Hastings, 72, of Lansing died March 17, 1997.
Ms. Hastings was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Charlotte, the daughter of Fred and Beatrice (Tripp) Raines. She worked as a custodian for Holiday Inn, Lansing.
She is survived by two daughters, Fronzee Nelson Deihm and Diana Thompson both of Lansing; one grandson, Bill (Cindy) Zerba; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley; one brother, John Raines; and four sisters, Valerie Lass, Maxine Olson, Ruby Smith and Thelma Simons.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Mominee in 1994; and one grandson, Brad Zerba in 1977.
Services were March 19 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery, Eaton County.
Wendell Hathaway
Wendell “Wank” Hathaway, 72, passed away Sept. 9, 1997, in Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Hathaway was born March 8, 1925, in Lansing, the son of Clair and Bernice (Hover) Hathaway. He moved to Eaton Rapids at an early age and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School with the class of 19943. He owned and operated Hathaway Tool retiring in 1980. He was a life member and past master of Masonic Lodge #63 F.A.M., Eaton Rapids. Mr. Hathaway was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy; daughter, Cheryl (Bill) Cahoon of Hudson, Fla.; son, Greg (Kathy) Hathaway of Kingsport, Tenn.; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; sister, Dea Price of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services were in Florida. Interment of cremains was in Grace Memorial.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or the Masonic Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids.
Rosalie Haun
Rosalie Haun, 82, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Charlotte, died Nov. 13 at her home.
While living in Charlotte, she was employed by Packard’s Furniture Store and Johnson’s Lumber, Co.
She is survived by her husband, Forrest; brother and sister-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
Services were Nov. 18 at Green Acres Chapel and burial was at the Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Maybelle L. Hawley
Maybelle Lillian Hawley, 72, of Charlotte died July 19, 1997.
Mrs. Hawley was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Roy and Nellie Claflin. She was self-employed as a housekeeper.
She is survived by three daughters, Leslie Deutscher of Battle Creek, Bonnie (John) Adams of Charlotte, and Jolene (Bruce) Lybrand of Arkansas; one son, Wayne of Battle Creek; one sister, Lena (Gerald) Woodman of Battle Creek; one brother, Harold (Sara) Claflin of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Moore; second husband, Horace Hawley; and one son, William.
Graveside services are Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Bosworth Cemetery in Walton Township.
Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Doris H. Haynor
Doris Helen (Cure) Haynor, 81, died Jan. 21, 1997.
Mrs. Haynor was born May 6, 1915, to Pearl (Griffin) and Hiram Cure at their residence in Sunfield. She was a 1933 graduate of Sunfield High School and a partner with Maude Hanna in C&H Dry goods, Sunfield, beginning in 1941. She bought the business in 1943 and sold it in 1947. She married Robert Haynor of Wheeler in 1947. In recent years, she had lived with her sons and families in Sunfield and Clarksville.
She is survived by two sons, Kerry of Sunfield and Rodney of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Lee, Caroline, and Paul Haynor; two cousins, Harold Hanna of Sunfield and Ella (Griffin) Worrall of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1985.
Services were Jan. 24 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Maples-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. Earl Thomas officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery.
