Linda L. Mathis
Linda L. Mathis, 55, of Charlotte, died Jan. 15, 1997.
Mrs. Mathis was born Oct. 22, 1941, in Hastings. She was a member of the Charlotte Church of Christ and employed at Owens-Brockway Glass Co. for 25 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Crabtree and Tammy (Ross) Telfer, both of Charlotte, and Jody Gilbert of Maple Rapids; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Darlene (Maynard) Sixberry of Nashville, Joan (Don) Lockwood of Eaton Rapids, and Charlene (Dick) Young of Leslie; and one brother, Richard Lamie of Mecosta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1989, one daughter, Kim Mann in 1982, one son, Kenley Mathis in 1976, and her father, George Lamie in 1974.
Services were Jan. 18 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Thomas Haynie officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Emily B. Meader
Emily B. Meader, 84, of Lansing, formerly of Olivet, died Oct. 28, 1997 at Tendercare Nursing Home, Marshall after an extended illness.
Mrs. Meader was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Detroit, the daughter of William and Hattie (Niekhart) Pohl. She was a retired self-employed beautician. She was a member of the Lansing South Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol (LaWayne) Emerson of Olivet; one son, Donald A. Reid of Miami, Ariz.; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Tatro of Chandler, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Meader.
Services and interment were Oct. 30 at the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet, with Larry Marlin officiating. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Gartha L. Melaragni
Gartha L. (Ball) Melaragni, 89, of Lansing, died Aug. 18, 1997, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Melaragni was born in Charlotte, the daughter of George and Occa (Rush) McDonald. She attended Lansing Business University and had been employed as a computer operator for the Kellogg Co., Battle Creek, retiring in the early 1970s after 20 years of service. She had also lived in Nashville, Battle Creek, and New Port Richey, Florida, before returning to Lansing in 1991.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Nancy) Ball of Haslett; step-son, Kenneth (Linda) Melaragni of East Lansing; four grandchildren, Pamela (Patrick) Heller, Mark (Debra) Ball, Timothy (Linda) Ball, and Peter Melaragni; eight great-grandchildren, Alina, Mary, Daniel, Cynthia, Michael, Stephen, Lisa, and Pam; six great-great-grandchildren, Niashe, Deshawn, Christian, Brittany, Tabatha, and Daniel; former daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Mahon; one brother, Howard McDonald; and many relatives, friends, and helpers.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon Ball in 1978 and John Melaragni in 1990; her great-granddaughter, Camryn Heller; and three brothers, Verl, Roscoe, and Alton “Pete” McDonald.
Services were Aug. 21 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Bob Homan officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Bill Merriott
Bill Merriott, 59, of Eaton Rapids died Sept. 11, 1997, in Lansing.
Mr. Merriott was born May 25, 1938, the son of Walter F. and Dorothy M. (Barker) Merriott. He was a former employee with Green Bay Foods in Eaton Rapids and of Diamond Reo, he was currently employed with Delta Electrical Contractors in Lansing.
He is survived by his three daughters, Becky Armstrong of Okla., Julie Piper of Haslett, and Melissa (Carl) Geiger of Saranac; two sons, Robert (Stacey) Merriott of Okla., and John (Theresa) Higdon of Eaton Rapids and their mother, Betty Merriott of Eaton Rapids; 15 grandchildren; brother, Rex (Vivian) of Lansing; sister, Mary; his significant other, Joan Janecke and her four children; and two granddaughters.
Services were on Sept. 15 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Doyle E. Montgomery
Doyle E. Montgomery, 68, of Inglis, Fla., died Jan. 3, 1997, at Seven Rivers Hospital, Crystal River.
Mr. Montgomery was born in Lansing, and moved to the Inglis, Fla., area nearly 11 years ago from Clearwater, Fla. He was employed as a general manager for Jacobson Mobile Home Manufacturing, Clearwater, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; one son, Doyle Montgomery II of Homosassa, Fla.; one stepson, Charles Higdon Jr. of Chiefland, Fla.; three daughters, Monica Baldwin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Sheila Murphy of Oldsmar, Fla., and Debra Guth of Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, Joe of Nashville, and Gene of Charlotte; three sisters, Dorothy Swarthout of Eastlake, and Helen Fast and Barbara both of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by the National Cremation Society, Brooksville, Fla.
Robert J. Montgomery
Robert J. Montgomery, 38, of Charlotte died Nov. 20, 1997, after seven years of battling cancer.
Mr. Montgomery was born Aug. 8, 1959, in Wayne, the son of John and Stella (Morgan) Montgomery. He worked for 18 years at the Felpausch Food Center, Eaton Rapids, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Charlotte.
He is survived by his parents; one brother, Jeffrey (Karen) of Dearborn; two nephews; one niece; and his grandmother, Martha Morgan of Westland.
Services were Nov. 24 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Moore officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Walton Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne State University Brain Tumor Research or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Elizabeth Nemeth
Elizabeth Nemeth, 75, of Potterville died Aug. 4, 1997, at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center.
Mrs. Nemeth was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Detroit, the daughter of Steve and Mary (Santa) Mayor. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in East Lansing.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; one daughter, Betty (Rich) Bosowski of Charlotte; three sons, William (Mary) Nemeth of Lansing, Richard (Brenda) Nemeth and Robert (Twyla) Nemeth, both of Potterville; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Margaret Meszaros of East Jordan.
Services were Aug. 7 at the First Assembly of God Church, East Lansing, with Pastor Curt Dalaba officiating. Interment was in Dimondale Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale.
Mary Ellen Ness
Mary Ellen Ness, 69, of Eaton Rapids died Nov. 22, 1997, as the result of an automobile accident.
Mrs. Ness was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Wabash, Ind., the daughter of Kenneth and Amanda Almeda (Shoemaker) Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lloyd; two daughters, Debra (the Rev. Michael) Long of Summerset Center and Jodie (David) Slaton of Eaton Rapids; two sons, Robert (Nancy) Ness of Potterville and Todd (Kathy) Ness of Lyons; 12 grandchildren; and two brothers, Gene (Georgia) Thompson of Cassopolis and Max Thompson of Eagle Lake.
Services were Nov. 26 at the Robbins United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Marty DeBow officiating. Interment of cremains followed at Deepdale Memory Gardens, Lansing.
Arrangements were made by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
