Jessie M. Sharp
Jessie M. Sharp, 87, of Olivet died March 25, 1997, at the Eaton Manor in Charlotte after a long illness.
Mrs. Sharp was born in Homer, the daughter of Fred and Myrtie (Caldwell) Heisler and was a lifelong Olivet area resident. She had been employed by Olivet College in the late 1950’s, was a former member of the Olivet Rebekah Lodge and had belonged to the Palmetto Mobile Home Club.
She is survived by five daughters, Jane (Orlen) VanDriessche, Joan (Joseph) Harmon, Ilene (William) Mott and Mary (Richard) Midlam all of Olivet, and Barbara (John) Henry of Marshall; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Sharp of Olivet; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Delia Key of Olivet; and one brother, Donald (Marion) Heisler of Olivet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murl, in 1969; one daughter, Elaine, in 1940; two sons, Gene in 1934 and Kenneth in 1988; three sisters, Sylvia Wilbur, Freda Murphy and Carrie Oberlin; and four brothers, Cecil, Andrew, Gerald and Kenneth Heisler.
Services were March 28 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Valerie Hill of Lee Center United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Edward Bennett Shaw
Edward Bennett Shaw, 79, of Olivet died July 29, 1997.
Mr. Shaw was born May 17, 1918, in Lansing, the son of Ira T. & Weltha Ann Shaw. He worked as an auto repair mechanic and enjoyed auto racing and had built several race cars.
He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Kay Smith, and Sharon (Bill) Dodge both of Lansing; four sons, Gary (Lucy) Shaw of Olivet, Charles Bennett Shaw of Lansing, Gerald Edward Shaw and Patrick (Sherry) Shaw both of Eaton Rapids; ten grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Belle Grandy of Florida.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas.
Services were July 31 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Dale Leaman officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

John A. Siltanen
John A. Siltanen (Arnie), 68, of Eaton Rapids died Nov. 9, 1997 in Eaton Rapids.
Mr. Siltanen was born April 28, 1929 in E. Chicago, Ind., the son of Martti J. and Clara V. (Gaither) Siltanen. He retired from Federal Forge in 1982 after 13 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joan; three daughters, Brenda (Jack) Stohr and Terri (Larry) Wicker all of Eaton Rapids, and Cindy Seriani of Colorado; two sons, Martti Siltanen of Lansing and Mark (Angie) Siltanen of Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Ann) Siltanen of Ala.; and sister, Josephine (Bob) Sailer of Colorado.
Services were Nov. 12 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Maier officiating.
Jack H. Sims
Jack H. Sims, 75, of Vermontville died Dec. 11, 1997.
Mr. Sims was born June 20, 1922, in Lansing, the son of Chriss and Hazel (Hart) Sims. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 40 Engineers in Europe during World War II. He was a truck driver for 26 years, working for Ellis Trucking and Odgen-Moffitt. He was a teamsters union member of Local #580 and the Michigan Fiddlers’ Association. He married Naomi Monroe July 5, 1946, in Angola, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; two daughters, Barbara Norris of Grand Ledge and Jackie Norris of Mulliken; three grandchildren; one sister, Sandra (Duane) Randall of Lawrenceville, Geo.; and two brothers, Olin Sims of Florida and Richard (Leona) Sims of Mount Pleasant.
Services were Dec. 15 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Richard Garn officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery, Eaton County.
Barbara K. Skinner
Barbara K. Skinner, 84, of Charlotte died Oct. 15, 1997, at her residence.
Mrs. Skinner was born in Roxand Township, Eaton County, Dec. 16, 1912, the daughter of George and Bertha (Semrau) Kelly. She lived most of her life in Eaton County. She has been employed by the State of Michigan Corporation and Securities Div. retiring in 1968, after 17 years of service. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and its Elizabeth Guild and Choir. Also, she was a member of the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary, the Northend Mothers Club and an Eaton County Extension Homemaker.
She is survived by her six children, Kenyon (Betty) Sherman and Douglas (Sue) Sherman both of Charlotte, Duane (Bobbi) Sherman of Traverse City, Bruce (Carla) Sherman of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Joy (Dick) Hunt of Stuarts Draft, Va., and Dennis (Jane) Sherman of Powell, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and brother, Clifton Kelley of White Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Skinner; mother, Bertha Kelly; sister, Beverly Rzonka; and brother, Max Kelly.
Cremation has taken place. Services were Oct. 19 at the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte, with the Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church Elizabeth Guild or the building fund.
Imo L. Sloan
Imo Lillian Sloan, 92, of Charlotte died March 18, 1997.
Mrs. Sloan was born Oct. 22, 1904, in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Andrew and Lillian (Lesnet) Sturdevant. She had worked as a country school teacher and was a member of the Center Eaton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Lillian (Edwin) Smith of Florida, Vivian (Edward) Bobcik of Charlotte, and Karen Bowers of Dimondale; one sister, Florence Williams of Hillsdale; one son-in-law, Richard Hicks of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, in 1969; and one daughter, Marian Hicks on Jan. 29, 1997.
Memorial services will be Monday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating.

Kenneth G. Spotts
Kenneth George Spotts, 77, of Charlotte died March 3, 1997.
Mr. Spotts was born July 14, 1919, in Brookfield Township. He was a sanitary engineer at Fisher Body until his retirement in 1980. He was also involved with farming.
He is survived by his wife, Ozell; two sons, Nolan (Jacqueline) and Michael, both of Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Ray (Harold “Bucky”) Lucas of Battle Creek; one brother, Clifford (Frances) Spotts of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Pearl Spotts.
Services were March 5 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan.
Leo E. Stambaugh
Leo E. Stambaugh, 70, of Nashville died April 16 at Mercy Pavilion, Battle Creek.
He was born in Vermontville on May 19, 1926, the son of Earl and Arlie (Wilcox) Stambaugh. He graduated from Vermontville and was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army in the Philippines. He married Roberta “Bert” Woolston in Hastings on April 4, 1947. She died Oct. 2, 1995.
He was a supervisor for General Motors in Lansing, and enjoyed fishing and traveling to fishing spots.
Surviving are son, Gary (Marie) Stambaugh of Nashville; brother, Lyle (Bonnie) Stambaugh of Nashville; sister, Dorla (Glen) Betts of Nashville; mother, Arlie Shaffer of Hastings; grandchildren, Mike, Ron, and Sandy; great-grandchildren; Jessica, Logan, K.C., and Sadie Michelle; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday at Genther Funeral Home, Nashville, with the Rev. James Hynes officiating. Interment was a Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
Joseph S. Stanley
Joseph S. Stanley, 76, of Charlotte died Nov. 11, 1997.
Mr. Stanley was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Katie (Kepes) Stanley. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He worked as a handyman most of his life.
Military honors will be Nov. 17 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home.
