Juanita Thompson
Juanita Celena Thompson, 87, of Charlotte died March 29, 2000.
Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 11, 1912 in Eaton County, the daughter of Orren and Pearl May (Crozier) Shumaker. She was a member of the Center Eaton Church United Methodist Church and Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte.
She is survived by one daughter, Vonda Stanton of Charlotte; one son, Robert (Alice) of Seymor, Ind.; six grandchildren, Robert Thompson, Jane (Larry) Johnston, Eric (Carrie) Stanton, Gina (Scott) Swanson, Mark (Betsy) Stanton, Karen (Brian) Stults; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Farley in 1999.
Services were April 1 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Ira Thorburn
Ira Thorburn, 89, of Olivet died March 12, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Battle Creek.
Mr. Thorburn was born in Mason, the son of Ira and Bertha Thorburn, and had been an Olivet resident since 1970, coming from the Detroit area. He was a truck driver in the Detroit area, retiring in 1968, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of Maple City VFW Post #2406, Charlotte, the Greenawalt-Flaherty American Legion Post #42, Charlotte, and Teamsters Local #299, Detroit.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Arakelian) Thorburn; one son, Robert Thorburn of Texas; two stepsons, Charles (Linda) Ohannesian of Hartland and George Ohannesian of Taylor; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two stepsons, John and Benjamin Ohannesian, and two sisters, Bernice and Lucille.
Services were March 15 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Clark Hock officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Ned B. Tieche
Ned Brown Tieche Sr., 87, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000.
Mr. Tieche was born July 6, 1913 in Kalamo Twp., the son of R.B. Hayes and Ethel Mae (Brown) Tieche. He was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts from 1948 to 1958, Explorer Advisor, member of United Methodist Church of New Dairy, Pa., life member of Sojourner’s Lodge #483 F&AM, life member of Peninsular Ram #16 of Michigan, member of Knights Templar Commandry #001, Moslem Shrine Temple of Michigan.
Surviving are two sons, Ned II, of Hopkins, Minn., Thomas of San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren; sister, Agnes Quigley of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; sister, Evelyn Wolfe; two brothers, Dr. Henry Tieche, MD, and Morris Tieche.
Graveside services were held Nov. 4 at Acacia Park Cemetery.

Hazel Tinkey
Hazel Tinkey, 98, of Charlotte died June 5, 2000.
Mrs. Tinkey was born March 23, 1902 in Baldwin, the daughter of Curtis and Valerie (Fortier) Bartlett. She was a clerk at the Curtis Grocery Store in Lansing for 25 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret (Gordon) Peltier of Fla.; two sons, Eugene Tinkey of Charlotte and Clifford “Bud” (Jeanette) Tinkey of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mina Urdahl of Minn.; and one brother, Samuel Bartlett of Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Nov. 30, 1964, and two grandchildren, Charlotte Wright in 1970 and George Tinkey in 1985.
Services were June 8 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was in the Deepdale Memorial Gardensm Lansing.

Blake E. Towe
Blake Elwood Towe, 63, of Charlotte, formerly of Wyoming, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000.
Mr. Towe was born Sept. 1, 1937 in Chester Twp., the son of Clare and Mildred (Taylor) Towe. He worked in the truck manufacturing business and served with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958.
Surviving are two daughters, Anne (Towe) Johnson of Alpena and Elizabeth Towe of Charlotte; two sons, Williams “Bill” of Lake Odessa and George of Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; mother, Mildred Towe of Charlotte; and brother, Larry (Charlotte) Towe of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Joyce Towe in 1980; his father, Clare in 1977; and brother, Gary in 1996.
Memorial services were held Oct .9 at Pray Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Richard Garn officiating.

Willard G. Treadwell
Willard G. Treadwell, age 81 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, March 10, 2000. He was born September 27, 1918 in DeWitt, the son of Fred and Olive (Baker) Treadwell. Mr. Treadwell was an Army Veteran of World War II and a Life Member of the Adams Rockey V.F.W. Post #6056 of Springport. Mr. Treadwell was a retired farmer and a retired employee of Diamond REO in Lansing. A member of the Great Lakes Haflinger Association and the Leslie Tractor Club. He enjoyed his retirement by restoring tractors and operating a Harness Shop. Preceding his in death are his parents and sister, Veva Webster.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Genevieve; son David (Yvonne) Treadwell of Leslie; daughter, Constance (Samuel) Graham of Eaton Rapids; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Marguerite Johnson of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 14th at 11 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to either the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or the Adams Rockey V.F.W. Post 6056 if Springport.
Susanne (Traver) Custer Ullrey
Susanne (Traver) Custer Ullrey, of Okemos, died peacefully Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Sparrow Hospital’s St. Lawrence Campus on the same floor where she was born. Her husband, Dr. Duane E. Ullrey, her son, Henry J. Custer, and her two daughters, Kaye C. Chodl and Kim C. Erznoznik, were at her bedside. Her last days were filled with laughter, tears, and wonderful memories. Sue was born February 4, 1930, to Marc and Ruth Traver and was a 1948 graduate of Williamston High School. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack L. Custer, and an infant son, Michael. At Michigan State University, she helped identify prospective medical students for the College of Human Medicine for a period of seventeen years. More than that, she loved the students and prepared many a holiday dinner for those who were far from home. Sue was an outstanding cook and a gracious hostess, who made all feel welcome.
She will be sorely missed by all her friends and family, including her husband, children, her sons-in-law, James H. Chodl and Michael J. Erznoznik, and her grandchildren, Thomas Henry Chodl, Meghan Jae Erznoznik, Molly L. R. Erznoznik, and Elisabeth Susanne Chodl.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 4, at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, East Lansing, with Rev. Max Williams, Jr. Pastor of Linworth United Methodist Church, Columbus, OH, officiating. Private interment will be held in Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Kenneth Umbarger
Kenneth Umbarger, 76, of Charlotte, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 in Lansing.
Mr. Umbarger was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Brookfield Twp., the son of James Alton and Flossie Marie (Rochester) Umbarger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, a life member of the VFW National Home, and a member of Potterville VFW Post #6334. He retired as an inspector from Oldsmobile in 1985.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Sarah; two daughters, Sandy Southward of Charlotte and Penny (David) Louth of Lansing; two sons, Darwin (Maggi) of Eaton Rapids and Jeffery Kenneth (Kaye) of Dimondale; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard (Ruth) of Eaton Rapids, Maurice (June) of Charlotte and Delton “Bud” (Darlene) of Beaverton; two sisters, Margaret Dowding of Olivet; and several nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Maynard, and his sister, Hazel Clough.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment was at Brickyard Cemetery. Casket bearers were Kevin Umbarger, Thad Southward, Justin Southward and Seth Dean.

Caroline Urich
Caroline Urich, 83, of Marshall, formerly of Bellevue, died Jan. 1, 2000 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Mrs. Urich was born in Madison, Wis., June 15, 1916 the daughter of Edmond and Lizzie (Campbell) Stiede. She graduated from Bellevue High School and from nursing school in Sault Ste. Marie. She was a nurse at Leila Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie and Punta Gorda, Fla. before returning to the area in 1995. She married Floyd Urich in 1937 in Indiana.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Dorothy Michner of Jackson; one stepson, Robert Russell of Dowling; step-grandson, Mikeal D. Gutsue of Bellevue; step-great-grandsons, John Mikeal Gustue of Bellevue Mikeal D. Gutsue II of Battle Creek; sister, Adeline Hillard of Marshall; brother, John Stiede of Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd in 1978 in Punta Gorda, Fla.; two sisters, May Bradshaw and Alice Nickells; her twin brother, Chuck, and two other brothers, Albert and Archie Stiede.
Cremation has taken place.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m., at the Bellevue United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Arrangements were made by the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
