Sarah Spicer
Sarah Louisa “Sally Lou” Spicer, 95, of Jackson, formerly of Charlotte, and Chicago, Ill., died Jan. 20, 2000 in Jackson.
Ms. Spicer was born Jan. 23, 1904 in Charlotte, the daughter of Frederick and Lilly (Force) Spicer. She graduated from Charlotte High School and then the Eaton County Normal School in 1922 and taught school for one year in Grand Rapids. She then went to Chicago, Ill., where she lived and worked for 59 years. She had been a private secretary for several businesses, including the Butler Paper Co., Mummert Paper Co., and Aladdin Travel Agency. She belonged to, and was active in, Delta Theta Tau Sorority and traveled extensively. She had also been a seamstress. She returned to Charlotte in 1983 and lived in the Grammer Apartments, then moved to Vista Grande Villa Retirement Home, Jackson, in 1986.
She is survived by two nieces, Betty Brandon of Charlotte and Sandra (Joe Witko) Peters of Phoenix, Ariz.; one nephew, Richard (Marcella) Peters of Frankenmuth; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Thomas; and four sisters, Edith Moore, Blanche Stevens, Barbara Warren and Helen Peters.
Services were Jan. 24 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. William Colson officiating. Interment was in the Center Eaton County Cemetery, Eaton County.
Connie L. Srigley
Connie Lee (Slade) Srigley, 57, of Pebble Beach, Calif., formerly of Vermontville, died Sept. 15, 2000, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Srigley worked in labor relations with the Sevenup Co. and was a former employment manager for MGM Studios in Hollywood, Calif. She was a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of California at Los Angeles. She had been a member of the Church in the Forrest, Pebble Beach; Questers; the Cypress Garden Club; and American Association of University Women.
She is survived by her husband, Rick of Pebble Beach; two daughters, Rochelle Srigley of North Hollywood, Calif., and Karena Bolger of Burbank, Calif.; her father, Theron Slade of Palm Harbor Fla.; and two sisters, Rosalie Bacun of Dunedin, Fla. And Linda Sroflarski, of Palm Harbor, Fla.
Services were Sept. 19 at the Church in the Forest Pebble Beach. Arrangements were made by the Payl Mortuary.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leolyn Slade of Palm Harbor in March 2000.

William Staley
William Curtis Staley, 81, of Charlotte died April 4, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Staley was born March 10, 1914 in Lake City, Ark., the son of Daniel and Nellie Tiner. He married Opal Cypret in 1939 in Dyess, Ark.
He had lived in the Albion area since 1944 and later, moved to Charlotte. He had been employed by Union Steel in its welding department for one year and had also been employed by Lonergren Manufacturing, retiring in 1982 from Albion Industries after 36 years as a supervisor in the welding department. He was a member of both the Albion and Charlotte Assemblies of God.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, M. Opal; two daughters, Vickie (Tom) Browning of Olivet and Lynette Caldwell of Lansing; two sons, Curtis (Joyce) of Coldwater and Donnie (Cheryl) of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, and two grandchildren.
Services were April 7 at 1 p.m. at the Albion Assembly of God Church with Pastor Mark Woodbury and the Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Interment was in the Albion Memory Gardens. Arrangements were made by the Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapel, Albion.

Sandra Starr
Sandra Jean Starr, 42, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Starr was born May 19, 1958, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Day) Shafe, and grew up in Olivet. She was a graduate of Olivet High School in 1976 and worked as a claim representative for State Farm Insurance in Marshall. She enjoyed her involvement with the Charlotte GFWC Women’s Club Chorus. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte.
Surviving are her husband, Timothy, and their two children, Kristin and Cameron; parents, Thomas and Margaret Shafe; three sisters, Cheryl (Kelly) Coplin of Shelbyville, Lori (Chris) Koyl of Olivet, and Michelle (Justin) Bowerman of Charlotte; and two grandfathers, Lester Day and Fred Shafe, both of Olivet.
Funeral Mass was held Oct. 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Denis Spitzley celebrating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Helen Steiner
Helen Marie (Penny) Steiner, 92, of Potterville died June 13, 2000.
Mrs. Steiner was born Sept. 20, 1907 in Sidney, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Fanny (Hardyman) Penny. She married Edward Steiner Oct. 24, 1924 in Urbana, Ill.
She is survived by one daughter, Lorraine (Robert) Rolfe of Lansing; two sons, Edward (Dorothy) Jr. of Charlotte and Roderick of Ionia; eight grandchildren, Butch, Judy, Cathy, Mark, Eric, Scott, Tanny and Pam; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert (Shirley) Penny and Merle Penny, both of Urbana, and Delmar Penny of Okechobee, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1979, two sisters, Opal Steiner and Esther Bauer; and one daughter-in-law, Connie Steiner.
Visitation is Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Services are tomorrow, Monday June 19 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Bailey officiating. Interment is in the Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Randy Steiner
Randy Lee Steiner, 53, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Feb. 29 at his home.
Mr. Steiner was born June 2, 1946 to Clarence Melrose and Virginia Jeanette (Roberts) Steiner in Battle Creek, and was raised by his stepfather, Glen Mahaffy. He graduated in 1964 from Bellevue High School, and married Debra Kay Andrews on Nov. 24, 1989 in Bellevue.
He worked as the night auditor at Battle Creek Inn for the last eight years, and was an emergency medical technician for the former Bellevue Rescue Squad. He was a member of Bellevue First Baptist Church and the Bellevue Village Players. He enjoyed traveling, darts and golf.
Surviving are his wife, Debra Steiner; son, Todd Steiner of Battle Creek; daughters, Fawn Beers of Bellevue and Mindy Woodworth of Battle Creek; two grandchildren; sisters, Linda Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marietta Morales of Charlotte; stepsisters, Dorothy Jones of Fife Lake, Melva Jones of Bay City, and Margaret Hayward of Saginaw; stepbrother, Lloyd Mahaffy of Marlette; special friends, Tom and Esther Ican of Battle Creek; and lots of loving family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepfather.
Services were held March 3 at Bellevue First Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert Homan officiating Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Alberta M. Stoltzfus
Alberta M. Stoltzfus, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000 at Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus, Lansing after an illness of two days.
Mrs. Stoltzfus was born in Fulton Co., Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Sauder) Goldsmith, and had been a Charlotte resident since 1960, coming from Archbold, Ohio. She was a 1938 graduate of Archbold High School and was married to Lester Stoltzfus on April 21, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1996. While in Archbold, she had been employed by LaChoy Foods and since moving to Charlotte has been self-employed as a homemaker/housekeeper for many businesses and private individuals in the area. She had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Charlotte since 1960, where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the choir and the Elizabeth Guild, and was active in quilt-making for the Lutheran World Relief Organization. She loved doing things for her grandchildren and their friends, and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are a son, Ned (Tessa) Stoltzfus of Charlotte; daughter, Dr. Marilyn (Dr. Dennis) Baeyens of Little Rock, Ark; grandchildren Katie Baeyens, Lisa and Levi Stoltzfus; and one sister, Helen Klinger of Archbold, Ohio.
Memorial services were held Nov. 17 at First Lutheran Church, Charlotte, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

John Fredrick Strader
John Fredrick Strader, age 80 of LaFeria, TX formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at his residence. He was born October 3, 1920 in Menasha, WI, the son of Mert and Mary Net (Linskin) Strader. John has lived the past 10 years in Texas. He retired in 1982 from C.R. Equipment Sales in Lansing and was an Army Veteran of World War II. A life member of the Moose Lodge #288 in Lansing, a member of the Eagles in Holt and a member of the Springport V.F.W. Preceding him in death was his wife Joan in 1967.
Surviving are 2 sons, Conner (Vickie) Strader of Eaton Rapids, and Guy W. (Roxanne) Strader of Elizabeth, West Virginia; 1 grandchild, Johnette (Ken) Edwards of N.C.; 3 great-grandchildren, Crystal, Steven and Keesha; 5 step-grandchildren, Laurie, Elizabeth, Tom, Christy and Melissa; step-brother, Marvin (Alvina) Strader.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 23rd, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Betty Jean Strang
Betty Jean Strang, age 71, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 in Eaton Rapids. Betty was born April 12, 1928 in Ringsted, Iowa the daughter of Sebo and Sylvia (McLaughlin) Behrends. Mrs. Strang retired from food service at Ingham Medical Hospital in 1983. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1988 and her daughter, Marla Silvas, in 1991.
Surviving are her children. Kean Harr of California, Roxanna (Ed) Sluiter of Grand Rapids, Harvey Harr, Robert (JoAnne) Harr both of Iowa, Sharon Harr of Marquette, Jeri Olson of Charlotte; step children, Sheila (Mike) Glavin, Mike (Diane) Strang, Peggy (Craig) Cartwright, Jeff Strang all of Eaton Rapids; 24 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Oscar and Robert; 6 sisters, Helen, Esther, Edna, Myrna, Daisy and Melvina; dear companion, Jerry Lindemann (who brought her much joy); and other close members of her extended family, Connie (Byron) Lyles and Rudy.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 17, 2000, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Helen E. Strang
Helen E. Strang, age 92, of Eaton Rapids died Wednesday, April 19, 2000. She was born December 19, 1907 in Senaco County, Ohio, the daughter of James and Maude (Stahl) Kime. Mrs. Strang was a former employee of Horner’s Woolen Mill and a former Practical Nurse for the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital. She was a life member of the Rabekah Sunshine Lodge #142 and a member of the First United Methodist Church both of Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; son, Neil Stanley Strang; and daughter, Mildred “Mickey” Keith.
Surviving are her son, Douglas (Mary E. “Pat”) Strang of Rapid City, MI; daughter-in-law, Penny Strang of Lansing; 8 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held April 22nd from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Tom Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
