Ruth Windhorst
Ruth Windhorst, 85, of Brighton, formerly of Charlotte, died March 11, 2000 at Medilodge of Howell.
Mrs. Windhorst was born Aug. 12, 1914 in Northville, the daughter of homer and Edith (Haslett) Bryan. She grew up in the Charlotte and married Joseph (Jake) Windhorst Oct. 29, 1933 in Jefferson, Ind., moving to the Brighton area in 1980 from Redford. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Brighton.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan (Donald) Urban of Brighton; six grandchildren; and, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dec. 18, 1990, and one son, Bryan.
Services were March 14 at the First United Methodist Church, Brighton, with the Rev. Gilson Miller officiating. Interment was in the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.

Grace Winslow
Grace Winslow, age 97 of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, March 9, 2000 in Flint. Grace was born November 16, 1902 in Leslie, MI, the daughter of Artie and Blanch (Wilbur) Wood. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids, a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1283. Mrs. Winslow was also a life member of the OES #241 in Eaton Rapids. She retired from the Eaton Rapids School District in 1968 after 35 years of services and was a member of the Michigan and Eaton County Retired School Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gleeland; stepson, Gleeland, Jr.; brothers, Harvey, Clayton, Carl and Rex Wood.
Surviving are her step grandson, Kirk Winslow of New York; sister, Floy Tharp of Linden; several nieces and nephews including Ted (Vicki) Tharp of Linden, Jack Tharp of Indiana; grand nieces, Trisha and Jessica Tharp; great-grand nephew, Tod Tharp.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 13, 2000 at the First United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Felt Plains Cemetery, Leslie. An OES Memorial Service was held Sunday at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Eaton Rapids Elementary Education Library Fund in memory of Grace Winslow.
Shirley A. Winstead
Shirley A. Winstead, age 64, died June 21, 2000 in Ann Arbor. Shirley was born May 6, 1936 in Napoleon, the daughter of Albert and Bernadine E. (Miller) Mangus. Mrs. Winstead was an Associate Minister with the Spiritual Episcopal Church in Eaton Rapids. She received voice training in Jackson, sang in operas on stage in Chicago and was a member of the Eaton Rapids Women’s Chorus. Shirley was employed at the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital and was known as the “Singing Nurse”. She was the owner and operator of the Sunflower Lodge, Adult Foster Care Home and three other homes for the developmentally disabled; sold the in 1989 and retired due to her heart transplant. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Thomas Winstead in 1966.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Cheryl (Corey) French of Eaton Rapids, Alberta (Richard) Duffrin of Springport; son, Jaimeson (Giget) Winstead of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Cassandra, Sarah, Monica; and an uncle, Dick Fox of Jackson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Jay Powell officiating. Interment followed at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Laurie R. Winters
Laurie Rae Winters, 40, of Eaton Rapids died Sept. 7, 2000.
Mrs. Winters was born July 26, 1960 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Leroy and Beverly (Dawley) Bouts. She was a 1978 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. She had been a lead billing clerk for Blue Cross through Sparrow Health Services, Lansing, for 22 years and formerly worked for St. Lawrence Hospital before their merger.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca and Kattrina Winters, both at home; her parents, Leroy and Beverly Bouts of Eaton Rapids; one granddaughter, Morgan Weessies, and her family, Stacey and Brent Weessies and their daughter, Megan, all of Portage; a brother, Zachary (Elizabeth) Bouts of Brooklyn; niece and nephew, Rudy and J.R. Ennis; a sister, Trisha Bouts (fiancé, Dave Miah) of Koln, Germany.
Services were Sept. 10 at the Skinner Funeral home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Hamlin Township.
Ricky A. Winters
Ricky Allen Winters, 47, of Eaton Rapids died Sept. 7, 2000.
Mr. Winters was born Jan. 27, 1953 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Allen Sr. and Francis “Dolly” (Hayward). He was a 1971 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. He was a route salesman for Perfection Bakery, formerly Schafer Bakery, in Lansing for the past 17 years, and was previously employed for ten years at Kroger in Lansing.
He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca and Kattrina Winters, both at home; one granddaughter, Morgan Weessies of Portage; two brothers, Rodney (Pat) Winters of Saranac and Allen (Karen) Winters of Harrison; two sisters, April (Jim) Colosky of Eaton Rapids and Nakoatta (Michael) Seale of Harrison; and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Dolly.
Services were Sept. 10 at the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Hamlin Township.
Helen Wisinski
Helen Josephine Wisinski, 83, of Haslett died April 15, 2000 at Dimondale Center.
Mrs. Wisinski was born in Erie, Penn., the daughter of John and Josephine (Kilbina) Lata. She was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Church her entire life and enjoyed making crafts.
She is survived by two sons, Leonard (Judy) of Haslett, Ronald of Ohio; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Louis Lata of California, Eddie of Tennessee and Teddy of Erie, Penn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1976.
Funeral mass was April 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Erie, Penn. Further information may be available on the internet at www.legacy.com. Local arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Luella Wonser
Luella Wonser, 95, of Eaton Rapids died Feb. 14, 2000.
Mrs. Wonser was born Dec. 8, 1904 in Eaton Township, the daughter of Ira and Vera (Rolfe) Halsey. She was a teacher in the Eaton County rural schools.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris Wonser of Eaton Rapids and Gaynell (Louis) Haley of Charlotte; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Edith Hutchinson, Vera Bracy and Ola (Joel) Burnett, all of Charlotte, Gladys Thomas of Hendersonville, N.C., and Ila Burnett of Olivet; and three brothers, Dean (Dorothy) Halsey of Ft. Myers, Fla., Bud (Shirley) Halsey of Charlotte, and Robert (Peg) Halsey of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl, in 1982; four sisters, Mary Hosey, Grace Thomas, Florence Sprague and Lela Granger; and two brothers, George Halsey and Elmer Halsey.
Services were Feb. 17 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dave Burnett officiating. Interment was in the Needmore Cemetery, Roxand Township.

Charles K. Woods
Charles K. Woods, 83, of Bellevue, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Lansing, of lung cancer.
Mr. Woods was born Nov. 29, 1917 in Bellevue to Fred and Leona (Kent) Woods. He gradated from Bellevue High School in 1936 where he was class salutatorian. He graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science in agriculture degree in 1941 and was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Lansing for six months. He was drafted into World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1941-1946 in the South Pacific in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. After the war, he returned to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and served 32 years in Albany, N.Y. and Lansing offices, retiring in 1978. While in Albany, he earned a master’s degree in business administration at Siena College at Loudonville, N.Y. He was well known in recent years by local farmers for giving crop reports over local radio stations for the Lansing area. He was a member of the Bellevue First Baptist Church, Senior Citizens, and the Bellevue Historical Society, and enjoyed fishing and traveling. He met Elsa Trombini, in Albany, and they were married May 29, 1949; she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Namle of Haslett; son, Kenton Woods of Glendale, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Alison, Marc, Stephen, Michael and Katherine.
Private services will take place at a later date, with Rev. Don Francis officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Edward and Wanita Woodworth
Wanita Woodworth died Jan. 17, 1995 and Edward Woodworth died Dec. 24, 1999.
The couple lived in Kalamo Township all their lives.
It was Mr. and Mrs. Woodworth’s wish that they be buried together and share a service.
Memorial services for the couple are Tuesday, April 4 at 1 p.m. at Kalamo Cemetery, Kalamo.
Cecil H. Wright
Cecil H. Wright, age 85 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, September 5, 2000 in Eaton Rapids. Cecil was born June 24, 1915 in Mecosta, the son of Floyd P. and Ilah O. (Fleck) Wright. Mr. Wright was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII and a member of the Charlotte VFW Post #2406 and the Charlotte American Legion Post #42. He was employed with the Rail Road for 20 years from 1957 to 1977 and was the co-owner of C.H. and J.E. Wright Accounting and Tax Service in Eaton Rapids. Cecil was a member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge and the Independent Accountants Association.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Joyce (Pollard); 3 daughters Jody (Josh) Tenenberg of WA, Pamela Wright of Eaton Rapids, Teresa (Steve Peters) Wright of CO; son Gregory (Stephany) Wright of CO; 3 grandchildren, Jeff, Aric and Bret Wright; 2 great-grandchildren, Adam and Kathrine Wright; brother, Vern (Barb) Wright of Laingsburg; 3 sisters, Bea Lovell of Traverse City, Imogene Wright of Lansing, and Donna Bibler of Albion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids with Military Honors presented by the Charlotte VFW Post #2406. Leola Lavon Yarrington
Leola Lavon Yarrington was born at Willow Lake, SD to Eilert and Rose Janssen on January 20, 1927. After a lingering illness, she passed away at home in Wesleyan Village, Brooksville, FL, on May 7, 2000. When Leola was 10 years old, the family moved to Mitchell, SD where the family became active in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She graduated from Mitchell High School and attended Marion College (now IWU) in Indiana. After college, she lived in Waterloo, Iowa, where she met and married Dean A. Yarrington on March 18, 1950. They observed their 50th anniversary this year with family and friends at Kissimmee, FL. She worked at the John Deere Tractor Works, Waterloo, and as the bookkeeper in the family business in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Upon the sale of their company, they traveled in their RV and later worked as a house parent at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Children’s Home, Eaton Rapids, MI. After their retirement they again traveled in their RV and became active in volunteer work with the missions group RVICS. In 1998 they moved to Wesleyan Village. She found a blessing in anything and everything. She was a loving wife for 50 years to Dean, and a blessing to her children and grandchildren all their lives. Her life was her testimony to her faith and deep spiritual life.
She is survived by her husband, Dean; one son, Dean Jr. (Claudia) of Atlanta, GA; four daughters, Jane (Scott) Jackson of Joplin, MO, Gail (Jeff) Brown of Eaton Rapids, Meri (Mike) Ferrell of Houston, TX, and June (Conroy) Campbell of Tulsa, OK; 18 grandchildren; brother, Duane H. Janssen, Sr. of Brooksville, FL; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Burial is in the Brooksville Cemetery, Memorials may be made to the Pasco Hernando Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667 or to Pioneers Missionary Organization, 12343 Narcoossee Road, Orlando, FL 32827-6020 in support of her grandchildren Matthew and Melissa Yarrington.
Ollie M. Young
Ollie M. Young, 73, of Charlotte died Dec. 26, 2000 at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born in West Louisville, KY, the daughter of Yewell and Ollie Stallings and had been a Charlotte resident since 1972. She was the former owner of Fond Memories (now Golden Day) Adult Foster Care Home, Charlotte, and attended the Gospel Assembly in Lansing.
She is survived by her husband, Claude; five daughters, Cindi (Larry) Powers of Charlotte, Debbie (Carl) Watkis, Laura young and Tammy Cary, all of Lansing, and Rose (Don) Perry of Bellevue; one son, William Davenport of Owensboro, KY; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 29 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Paul Elswick and Rev. Fred Young officiating. Interment was in the Perry Cemetery, Brookfield Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice for their proposed new Hospice House.
