Gary S. Emede

Gary Stephen Emede, 52, of Arizona City, Ariz., died July 24, 2000 at his home.

Mr. Emede was born May 14, 1948 in Lansing, the son of Jerry and Bette Emede. He spent the last 18 years residing in Arizona City, Ariz., and was self-employed in a propeller shop.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Kay Emede; his son, Jim (Nancy) Emede; one granddaughter, Cheyenne Emede; mother, Bette Emede; two brothers, Bill (Julie) and Jim (Denise); and two sister, Susan (Brett) Hendrick and Cheryl (Wayne) Wilbur; two nieces, Natalie Sage and Stacy Emede; nephews, Tom, Jake and Jordan Emede, Roger and Travis Smith, and Ryan and Jeremy Spotts; and an aunt, Sharon Emede.

Services were held July 27 at the Arizonia City Moose Lodge, Ariz. The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 13 from 2-4 p.m. at 2160 Vermontville Hwy., Charlotte/

Arrangements were by Valley Funeral Home, Eloy, Ariz.

Gerald P. Emede

Gerald P. Emede, 77, of Charlotte, died July 26, 2000 at his home after a long illness.

Surviving are wife, Bette; two daughters, Cheryl (Wayne) Wilbur and Susan (Brett) Hendrick; two sons, Bill (Julie) and Jim (Denise); ten grandchildren: Jim Emede; Natalie Sage; Jordan, Tom, Stacy and Jake Emede; Urian and Jeremy Spotts; and, Travis and Roger Smith; two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Emede and Kaylin Spotts; and a sister, Sharon Emede.

No services are being held. The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 13 from 2-4 p.m. at 2160 Vermontville Hwy., Charlotte.

Rena Mae Emens

Rena Mae Emens, age 94, died Friday, July 28, 2000 in Eaton Rapids. Rena was born October 16, 1905 in Dansville the daughter of Ned M. and Nora Estella (Grimes) Townsend. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Emens was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Perrine in 1950; her second husband, Deane Emens in 1992; son, Robert Perrine in 1969 and daughter-in-law, Agnes Perrine Estein.

Surviving are her daughter, Edna (Russell) Smith of Lake, MI; 2 sons, Lester (Virginia) Perrine of Harrison, Kenneth (Marilyn) Perrine of Gulfport, Mississippi; 4 stepsons, William D. (Betty) Emens of Splendors, Texas, Thomas (Judy) Emens of Flagler, Florida, Robert (Chris) Emens of Crystal Falls, Phillip (Chris) Emens of Springport; 31 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, 2000 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Marilyn Perrine and Rev. Dennis Perkins officiating. Interment followed at Jones Cemetery in Rives Junction. Those desiring may make contributions to the Wesleyan Church in memory of Rena M. Emens. www.legacy.com

Benjimen L. Emery

Benjimen Lee Emery, six-weeks-old, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000.

Benjimen was born Oct. 8, 2000 in Charlotte, the son of Jesse Emery and Christie Burnett who survive.

Also surviving are a brother, Donovan; grandparents, Ron Burnett, James (Nancy) Emery, Nancy Burnett, Patricia Johnson; great-grandparents, Thomas (Geraldine) Emery and Mary Norris.

Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Elder Richard Garn officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.

Howard F. Evans

Howard F. Evans, 82, of Charlotte, died Nov. 17, 2000.

Mr. Evans was born Oct. 21, 1918 in Tiffon, Ohio, the son of Charles and Jennie (DeMott) Evans.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Ann (Hart) of Charlotte; sons, Howard (Connie) Evans of Dowling, Dean (Annie) Evans of Houghton Lake and Alan (Rose) Evans of Middleton; daughter, Judy (Calvin) Oles of Dowling; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daren in 1988.

Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Union Home Cemetery, St. Johns.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Manor Nursing Home or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Robert Evans

Robert Lawrence Evans, 69, of Charlotte died Jan. 2, 2000.

Mr. Evans was born in Lansing June 3, 1930 and was the stepson of Fred and June Fisher.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Demour (Steve) Rosenberger of Hastings; one brother, Russell of Mason; one stepsister, Sally Phillips of Kalkaska; and on sister, Mildred, of White Cloud.

Graveside services were Jan. 5 at the Needmore Cemetery, Charlotte, with the Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Opal Fast

Opal Fast, 97, formerly of Vermontville and Charlotte, died De. 25, 1999.

Mrs. Fast was born Jan. 10, 1902 in Vermontville Township, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Bale) Carey. She was married to Shirley Fast for 48 years. Mrs. Fast was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Lansing, and was the eldest of ten children. She was a kind and caring person with a ready smile.

Surviving are grandsons, Jack, Kenny and Kurt; step-grandsons, Jeff and Richard Welsh; devoted granddaughter, Darcy Schultz; three great-granddaughters; brothers, Kenneth Wayne (Bonnie) Carey and Clifford (Esther) Carey; sister, Beverly Jean Feldpausch; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley in 1974; two sons, Kendall and Shirley “Buzz” Jr.; one sister, Mildred Frank; and five brothers, Joe, Lawrence, Dale, Lyle and Raymond.

Services were Dec. 28 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Steve Klink officiating. Interment was in the Freemire Cemetery, Sunfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Mary A. Faynor

Mary A. Faynor, age 77 of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Sparrow-St. Lawrence/Dimondale Center. She was born August 19, 1922 in Flint, the daughter of John and Tillie (Oravec) Vlachovic. Mary was retired from the Eaton Stamping Company in Eaton Rapids with 27 years of service, and a member of the Czechoslovakian Society of America. Mary’s fondest memories were the many fishing trips made to Canada in the family float plane with her family and close friends.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Milton; 4 children, Bud (Judy) Faynor of Eaton Rapids, Douglass (Sheron) Faynor of Woodburn, OR, Patricia Faynor of Eaton Rapids and Craig Faynor and special fiend Paul Roesch of Orlando, FL; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 22, at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, with the burial in the Eaton Cemetery. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made in memory of Mary A. Faynor to the Sparrow-St. Lawrence/ Dimondale Center.

Henry C. Felder

Henry Casper Felder Sr., 79, of Charlotte, died Aug. 19, 2000.

Mr. Felder was born Aug. 5, 1921 in Glencoe, Minn., the son of Alexander and Katherine (Wolff) Felder. He was a truck driver for General Aluminum, retiring in 1983. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and had been awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Combat, and was a life member of the VFW Post 8260 of Nashville.

He is survived by his wife, Cordie (Shaver) of Charlotte; two daughters, Carol (David) Slocum of Charlotte and Katherine Ross of Oscoda; one son, Henry Jr. (Cathy) of Nashville; six grandchildren, David (Tammi) Slocum II, Victoria (Duke) Selby, Robert Slocum, Angela (Edgar) Biergeder; foster daughter, Laura Humphrey and her daughter, Danielle Wipping; sister, Deloris Young of Lansing; two brothers, Alex Felder of N.J. and John Felder of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald in 1973.

Services were held Aug. 22 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery, with graveside services under the auspices of VFW Post 8260 of Nashville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte.

Douglas H. Ferguson

Douglas H. Ferguson, age 81, of Eaton Rapids died Sunday, March 5, 2000 at the Sparrow Street Lawrence/Dimondale Center. He was born August 18, 1918 in Eaton Rapids the son of Robert and Gertrude (Schauble) Ferguson. Doug was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1937, and played on the Basketball team that won the State Title 36-37. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. He was a local businessman in Eaton Rapids for 20 years, owning and operating Ferguson’s Cleaners, retiring in 1984. He then worked for Adams Tool & Engineering Company in Lansing for 15 years. Doug was a Life Member of the F.&A.M. Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids and was a member of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Doug was a very good athlete who coached little league baseball and played baseball also. He won several 1st place trophies at the local gold course, with partner Whitey Palk, and enjoyed his hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Maxine (Norris); son, Stephen Douglas Ferguson of Grayling; daughter, Susan (Thomas) Landberg of LaFayette, IN; 4 grandchildren, Mike and Sarah Fouts and Natascha and Lisha Ferguson; brother, Robert (Norma) Ferguson of Marshall; sister, Roberta Murphy of Lansing and several nieces nephews; extended families, Jim & Jan Squires, Dondi & Boys, Hovey Family, Robbie and Brian Hovey.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 8th at 11 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Tom Evans of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service being conducted at 7 p.m. by Brother Howard Haven. For those desiring a memorial contribution may be made to the Masonic Temple or a charity of choice in memory of Douglas H. Ferguson.

Esma S. Ferguson

Esma S. Ferguson, age 93 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000 in Ionia. Esma was born July 10, 1907 in Essex Twp., Clinton County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Charles Riley and Bessie Ann (Slater) Ferguson. She graduated from County Normal in 1927, Central Michigan University in 1945, and was a schoolteacher for 44 years teaching in the Eaton Rapids Junior High School for 26 years. Esma was a member of the Eaton Rapids BPW, the Garden Club, and was a former member of AAWW. She was also a member of the Ester Circle, the Eaton County and Eaton Rapids Retired Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma, Eaton County Branch.

Surviving are 3 nieces, Marsha Wagner and Sandra Stout both of Ionia and Pamela (James) Hynes of Florida; 5 grandnieces and nephews; 11 great-grandnieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 5, 2000 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Robert Betts officiating. Interment will be at the Lowe Cemetery, Clinton County. Those desiring may make contributions to the Lowe Church, St. Johns in memory of Esma Ferguson. www.legacy.com.

Kathryn Feyrer

Kathryn Ann (Vincent) Feyrer, 41, of Shawboro, N.C., formerly of Nashville, died May 7, 2000.

Mrs. Feyrer was born Oct. 17, 1958 after a 31-year battle with diabetes and was scheduled for a kidney transplant in June. She graduated from Maple Valley High School, and attended Liberty Baptist College in Virginia. She was a lady with many talents who dearly loved the Lord.

She is survived by her husband, James; two sons, James and Charles (Chad) of North Carolina; her parents, Alden and Arline Vincent; one sister, Beth Martinez; two brothers, John and Alden (Bud); and his grandmother, Eva Johnson, all of the Nashville area; and, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services are Monday May 15 at 11 a.m. at the Nashville Baptist Church with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment will be in the Dowling Cemetery. Arrangements by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nashville Baptist Church.
