Julia A. Shaw
Julia A. Shaw, 89, of Middleville died Dec. 3, 2000 at Tendercare, Hastings.
Mrs. Shaw was born July 12, 1911 in Charlotte, the daughter of Carson and Clara (Bishop) Moyer. She was raised in Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte High School. She went on to earn a teaching certificate from County Normal, and taught school for one year. She was employed by General Motors during World War II, and drove the ice-cream truck for Blue Ribbon Dairy until her retirement. Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker, loved cooking, and was an avid reader. She was an outdoor enthusiast, with a special fondness for fishing, gardening and friendships.
She is survived by one nephew, Armand (Tressa) Peters of Central Lake; two grand nephews; and special friend, Samuel McKeown of Middleville.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Keith Cline and Milo Shaw; and a sister, June Marie Peters.
Services and committal were Dec. 6 at Beeler Funeral Chapel, Middleville, with Rev. Lee Zachman officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Middleville.

Violet Sheets
Violet (Weeks) Sheets, 85, of Olivet, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mrs. Sheets was born in Bellevue, the daughter of James and Loretta (Emmons) Weeks, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1931 graduate of Bellevue High School, a member of the Olivet Congregational Church and its Amy Storr-Emma Jo Circle, a member of the Charlotte Rebekah Lodge #68, the Grand River Valley LEA #31, the Olivet Sports Boosters, and was a former 4H leader. Mrs. Sheets had been employed as a data processor for the Michigan Department of Treasury, retiring in 1980 after 12 years of service. She dearly loved her family, and her friends were very important to her.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Latham and Merilee Metters, both of Lansing, and Betsey (Thomas) Mulvaney of Burke, Va.; two sons, Alan Sheets of Charleston, Ark. And Ivan (Patricia) Sheets of Olivet; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris (Irving) Davis of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sheets on June 28, 1962; two grandchildren; and sisters, LaVeda Weeks and Alice Randall.
Funeral services were held June 17 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Clark Hock officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Alvin R. Sheff
Alvin R. Sheff, age 69, died Thursday, February 3, 2000 in Lansing. Alvin was born February 27, 1930 in Sturgis, the son of Benjamin Cherry and Agnes Gertrude (Cunningham) Sheff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Legion Post #351 in Utica, and Voiture 40 et 8 Post #1061 in East Pointe. Alvin retired from Chrysler Corp in Warren in 1982.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret L.; daughter, Denise (Dale) Tuomari of Redford; son, Bernard Sheff of Eaton Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Benjamin Patrick Sheff, James Douglas Sheff; mother, Agnes Sheff of Florida; and sister Doris Anscomb of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday February 7, 2000 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor John Hayden of the Columbia Road Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fowler Cemetery in Aurelius Twp. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Legion Post #351 in memory of Alvin Sheff.
Sylvia W. Sherman
Sylvia Waneta Sherman, 79, of Charlotte, formerly of Nashville, died Dec. 20, 2000.
Mrs. Sherman was born Nov. 25, 1921 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Heber and Myrtle (Squires) Julian. She worked for Hastings Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Nashville VFW Auxiliary and Peace United Methodist Church, Nashville.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra (Max) Simpson; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece, Sylvia (Russell) Hoeve of Nashville; and one nephew, Heber Hansen of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 1993.
Services were Dec. 22 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Susan Trowbridge officiating. Interment was in the Wilcox Cemetery, Nashville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace UMC or Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.
Cornelia M. Shimer
Cornelia “Katie” M. Shimer, 90, of Lansing, formerly of Bellevue, died Nov. 16, 2000 in Lansing.
Mrs. Shimer was born Dec. 8, 1909 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Abraham and Catherine (DeKraker) Aalbregtse. She moved to Bellevue in 1923 with her family, and graduated from H. Wayne School of Cosmetology. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and a life member of the Bellevue Historical Society. She married Mark Shimer on June 23, 1934, and was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband; daughters, Elaine (Fred) Voda of Hot Springs, Ark., Louise (Bill) King of Montgomery, Texas, and Brenda (Bill) Wickham of Haslett; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 20 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Vernon Shipman
Vernon Shipman, 58, of Charlotte, died May 27, 2000 at the Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus, Lansing, after a short illness.
Mr. Shipman was born in Golden Valley, N.D., the son of Glen and Leotina (Grossman) Shipman, and had been a Charlotte-area resident for about 20 years. He was employed at Felpausch Food Center in Eaton Rapids and was a member of the Grand Ledge Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed bowling, traveling and his family and friends. He was a participant in Special Olympics, where he had won numerous medals and also did volunteer work at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.
He is survived by four sisters, Dorothy Bowling of Grand Rapids, Winonah Arnold of Kalkaska, Gwen Newberry of Bellevue and Beverly Kucera of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one brother, Orville of Enterprise, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Stanley, Virgil and Keith.
Services were May 31 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Lyle Davis and Pastor Darren Tharp officiating. Interment was in the Sand Lake Cemetery, Sand Lake.

Deborah Ann (Pierpoint) Shore
Deborah Ann (Pierpoint) Shore, age 44 of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, St. Lawrence Campus in Lansing. She was born December 14, 1955 in Detroit, the daughter of Herbert and Jane (Lonyo) Pierpoint. Deb was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1974, and received her associates degree from Davidson County Community College in 1994. She had lived the past 20 years in North Carolina, where she worked as a Medical Records Clerk for hospitals. Preceding her in death was a brother, Charles Pierpoint in 1987.
Surviving are her husband, Benny; 3 daughters, Christal Hughes, Maida (Roger) Martin, and Kerry Shore all of Thomasville, NC; 3 grandchildren, Selena Shore, Benny Hughes and Dustin Stillwell; father, Herbert Pierpoint of Eaton Rapids; mother, Jane (Claude) Lambert of Pulaski, VA; brother, Thomas (Sue) Pierpoint and sisters, Beverly (Joe) Mientkiewicz and sister-in-law, Diane Pierpoint all of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 21, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Graveside services were at Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to either the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or the Eaton Community Hospice, in memory of Deborah Ann Shore.
Lloyd Sixberry
Lloyd Sixberry, 92, of Nashville died April 29, 2000 at his home.
Mr. Sixberry was born March 6, 1908 in Castleton Township, the son of Harry and Bessie (Hollister) Sixberry. He married Donna Keller Feb. 17, 1937 in Auburn, Ind. He farmed most of his life and retired from Post Cereals in Battle Creek after 23 years of service. He also worked at Eaton Manufacturing in Battle Creek for five years. He was a member of the Horizon Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou (Joseph) Harp of Charlotte and Dawn Sixberry of Nashville; four sons, Maynard (Darlene) and Gerald (Beverly), both of Nashville, Gordon (Coralyn) of Charlotte and David (Sharon) of Hastings; 16 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah, and his wife of 56 years, Donna, in 1993; two brothers and two sisters.
Services were May 2 at the Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville, with the Rev. Kenneth Vaught officiating. Interment was in the Wilcox Cemetery, Nashville.

Pauline Slatton
Pauline (Keeney) Slatton, 76, of Bellevue, formerly of Plainwell and Charlotte, died March 27, 2000 at Country Living Adult Foster Care Home, Olivet.
Mrs. Slatton was born Nov. 2, 1923 in Martin, the daughter of Fred and Donna (Culver) Keeney, and had been a resident of the Bellevue area for nine months, coming from Plainwell. She was retired from the Parker-Hanniflin Co., Otsego.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Doug) Swift of Bellevue; one son, Jim (Pat) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and, one brother, Dale Keeney of Plainwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben in 1984.
At her request, cremation has taken place. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Rodney A. Slee
Rodney A. Slee, 35, of Vermontville, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000.
Mr. Slee was born Sept. 9, 1965 in Lansing, the son of Thomas and Donna (Trowbridge) Slee. He had been a member of the National Guard and was a field service technician at Aluminum Casting and Engineering of Milwaukee, Wis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
Surviving are two sons, David of Hastings and Alex of Vermontville; companion, Jill of Vermontville; parents Thomas and Donna Slee of Charlotte; and three brothers, Matt (Sherra) Slee of Eaton Rapids, Paul Slee of Fremont, Ind., and Tom (Kathy) Slee of Olivet.
Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte, with Pastor Scott Louridge officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to a fund for the children.
