Leo James Baker
89 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, January 19, 2003. Mr. Baker was born June 21, 1913 in Chester Township, the son of David and Grace (Rogers) Baker. He married Margaret Powers October 21, 1933 and they were married for 68 years before her death March 24, 2002. During his early years he was always ready to help out his neighbors with his excellent mechanical skills. He was a machinist at Reo Motors during WWII and then went into partnership with his brother Vance to form Baker Brothers Construction. He retired from his own contracting company, Leo J. Baker & Son Builder, and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. He is survived by sons L. Daryl (Mary Jean) of Charlotte, Doyle (Jackie) of Traverse City, daughters Marcelyn (Sherman) Kelley, Darlene (Robert) Raymer, all of Charlotte, Rosemary Kathleen (David) DeWaters of Texas, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister Marian Kline and brother Vance (Neva) Baker both of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by brother Pearl Baker and sister Marguerite Satterly. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 22 at the Lawrence Avenue Methodist Church with Rev. Verne Summers and Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be at Gresham Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.

Hayden Thomas Wonnacott
5 month old son of Jeremy and Amanda (White) Wonnacott of Lansing, Michigan, died Thursday, January 23, 2003. Hayden was born August 9, 2002 in Lansing. He is survived by his parents, sister Taiya Marie Wonnacott, grandparents Suzanne Wonnacott of Olivet, Thomas and Sibyl White of DeWitt, great grandparents Gerald and Joyce Wonnacott of Charlotte, Elmer and Betty White of Grand Rapids, Mildred Henderson of Milford, Ohio and Virginia Keesling of Kalamazoo, aunts Adrienne White of East Lansing, Jenna Wonnacott of Olivet, and uncles Jared and Jamie Wonnacott of Olivet. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Thomas Wonnacott in 1999. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2003 at Church of Christ, Charlotte, Michigan with David Lynch officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Visitation will be 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Sunday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Ele's Place or Michigan SIDS Alliance.

Edna M. Johnson
90, of Potterville, Michigan, died peacefully in her home Tuesday, January 28, 2003. Mrs. Johnson was born January 20, 1913 the daughter of Earl and Elma (Roberts) Lovejoy. Edna was a loving, caring and hard working beautician. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Johnson, on May 8, 2002. They had participated in local square dancing and loved hosting many square dance gatherings at their home. She was the proud owner of many beauty shops in the Lansing and East Lansing area including Polly Prim, Bruce's Beauty Shop and Marionettes in the former Olds Plaza Hotel. She is survived by step-daughter Ann (Harry) Wiersma of Grand Ledge, grandchildren Marie Edna (Jeff) Nelsen, Rebecca (Randy) Boone, Deborah (Paul) Piotrowski, 4 great grandchildren, sister Vera Adams of Okemos, brother Ron (Veralee) Lovejoy of Florida, sister-n-law Edrian "Pat" Hanley, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brothers; Clifford, Cortes, Clyde, Robert, Wayne, and Carl Lovejoy, sisters; Nina Grim and Laura Hamilton. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. Timothy Olson officiating. Interment will follow in Dimondale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Lewis Orville Link
69, of Howell, Michigan, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003. Mr.Link was born May 8, 1933 in Maple Grove Township, Michigan, the son of Andrew Frank and Vonda Grace (Elleston) Link. He was a supervisor at General Motors and a member of VFW Post 8260. He is survived by son Robert (Barb) Link of Manistee, Michigan, grandchildren Susan Vettese, Mark Vettese, Angie Hagadorn, step-grandson Tom Darling, step-granddaughter Kim Frisbie, and sister Louise Starkweather of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his wife Eloise Ion "Weebe" Link. Family and friends are invited to share in the Family Affirmation Service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert E. Dishman
76, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, Michigan, our loving husband, father and grandfather went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 5, 2003. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Dishman was born July 17, 1926, in Marco, Indiana, the son of Eric and Effie Mae (Bough) Dishman. Robert was saved in 1959 at Needmore Bible Church, Charlotte, Michigan. He had been an active member at Millett Bible Baptist Church in Lansing since 1964. He was a forklift driver for Lindell Drop Forge in Lansing and worked for Lansing Schools until his disability retirement in 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, son Dana Dee Dishman in 1979, brothers Hestin, Jim, Wilbert and Gilbert Dishman. He lived in Dugger, Indiana, Florida and Michigan with his surviving wife of 51 years Virginia Boltz Hout Dishman. Also surviving is daughter Sue Ann Hout Depue Browers and spouse Dale Browers of Hastings, son Larry Kent Hout and spouse Succoro Madina Hout of El Paso, Texas, daughter Ronda L. Hout Beebe and spouse Frank Beebe of Marion, Donna Kay Hout Leonard Hannahs and spouse Gene Hannahs of Lansing, Catherine Y. Dishman Combs and spouse Rick Combs of Lansing, 24 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren, sister June Keagy of Bloomfield, Indiana, and friends like family Joe and Eloise Volz Bancroft and Renee Wabeke. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 10, 2003 at Needmore Bible Church, Charlotte with Pastor Dale Billingsley officiating. Interment will be in Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Sunday 3 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Millett Bible Baptist Church. Vilita Ripley Wilson
passed away February 6, 2003, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, after a short illness. She was born June 14, 1911, in Eaton County and was a life-long area resident. She was co-valedictorian of Charlotte High School's class of 1929 and worked for several area businesses until 1945. She was preceded in death by daughter Joan Wilson Clinton in 1979 and husband H. J. (Jack) Wilson in 1983. Survivors include daughter and husband Suzanne Wilson Bush and Thomas Bush of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, granddaughter and husband Marilyn Clinton Boland and Kevin Boland of Plymouth, Michigan, and granddaughter and family Cynthia Clinton, Douglas Wise, and Lisa Wise of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Immediate family members also include son-in-law and wife Wayne and Judy Clinton of Gladwin, Michigan, sister-in-law Marietta Ripley of Charlotte, Michigan and several nieces and nephews and their families. Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte is handling arrangements with visitation from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2003 and funeral services at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2003 with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.

Steve L. Brown
48, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, February 10, 2003. Mr. Brown was born October 2, 1954, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Robert and Pat A. (David) Brown. He was a Bar Tacker at Peckham Manufacturing. He is survived by his son Peter Brown and Charity, son Joseph Brown and Tracy, grandson Kyle Brown, brother Donald Brown, Father Robert and step-mother Susan Myers-Brown and mother Pat A. Brown, step-brother Kevin (Lisa) Myers, step-sister August (Bob) Mellios and 4 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by twin brother Stan Brown, December 8, 2002. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment will be in Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Thursday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands of Charlotte. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Harold Lee Robison
38, of Lansing, Michigan, died Thursday, February 13, 2003. Mr. Robison was born August 19, 1964 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Roscoe Walter and Nancy Lee (Gage) Robison, Sr. He is survived by his wife Tina T. (Dolph) Robison, a son, Harold Lee Robison, Jr., a daughter, Roxanne Marie Robison, both of Crawfordville, Florida, brother, Roscoe (Tracy) Robison, Jr., 2 sisters, Roxanne (Marlon) Hudson, Kimberly (James) Cantrell both of Crawfordville, Florida, and sister-in-law, Cheryl Vaughn of Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Mitchell Bean officiating. Visitation will be 9-11:00 a.m. Monday prior to the funeral service.

Esther 'Carolyn' Nichols
95 of Charlotte, went to be with her Lord February 14, 2003. Mrs. Nichols was born September 11, 1907 in Olivet, Michigan, the daughter of George R. and Mariette (Robertson) CorSette. She was a telephone receptionist for Tranter Manufacturing for 23 years until her retirement in 1969 and had worked for the State Journal from 1933 until 1943. She is survived by daughter-in-law Colleen Beach of Lansing, grandson William (Trudy) Beach of Mt. Clemens, granddaughters Debra Gibson of Lansing and Diane Winkler of Grand Ledge, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and niece Gloria Wilson. She was preceded in death by husband Mahlon Nichols, daughter Barbara Beach, son Ramon Beach, grandsons Robert and David Beach, sister Jane Turrell, and stepson Clyde Nichols. A Family Affirmation Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 17 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Lansing or your charity of choice.

Donald Truman DePriest
66, of Charlotte, Michigan, was reunited with his loving wife, February 20, 2003. Mr. DePriest was born September 29, 1936, in Cairo, Illinois, the son of Truman and Irene (Collins) DePriest. Don was a construction contractor and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by son Thaddaeus DePriest and fiancee Monica Perez, daughter Lynn (Doug) Dickinson, daughter Terri (Stephen) Boyce, all of Charlotte, 6 grandchildren Sara Jo Tate (John Maynard), Michelle, David, Danielle Dickinson, Zachariah and Andres Suarez, sisters Ruth Kissick of Florida and Doris Warren of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie (Heinze) DePriest in 1996. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Slocum officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday, 5 - 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital or Potterville Church of the Nazarene.

Helen B. Magoon
79, was promoted to glory when the Lord summoned her home on February 21. Helen was born on February 10, 1924 to Archie and Harriet (Pullman) Thompson in Nashville, Michigan. She and Gayle Magoon were married on December 26, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Gayle was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. Helen had been Probate Register at the Eaton County Probate Court, retiring on her 65th birthday after 20 years of service. Helen visited nursing homes for 55 years and volunteered for The Salvation Army in Charlotte for 33 years and for the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Gift Shop for 12 years. Helen is survived by her husband Gayle of 60 years, one son Stanley (Lynda) Magoon of Chicago, one daughter Linda (Kermit) Ramey of Vermontville, two brothers, Harold Thompson of Bellevue and Earl (Tracy) Thompson of Sunfield, two sisters, Barbara June Shaver of Napoleon, Ohio and Sharon (John) Milbourn of Mass City, Michigan, three grandsons, Tim (Paula) Ramey, Brett (Cass) Ramey both of Vermontville and Greg (Michelle) Magoon of Chicago, two granddaughters, Amanda (Dave) Martin of Charlotte and Erin Magoon of Chicago, five great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Major David Corliss and Capt. Kevin Cedarvall officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.

Tommy Louis Nance
age 62, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003. Mr. Nance was born July 24, 1940 in Cairo, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Meddie (Aton) Nance. Mr. Nance was a pipefitter and was a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy. In past years Tommy was an active leader in Boy Scouts of America and loved working in his yard to create an outdoor environment that all could enjoy. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Judy (Sheppard) Nance; Two Sons, Son-Mr. Daniel Nance of Waterford, Michigan, Son-Mr. Tommy (Glenda) Nance of Ypsilanti, Michigan, his father Elmer Nance, grandchildren, Desiree, Daniel and Chelsea Nance. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2003 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating.

Harley H. Hood, Sr.
of Lansing, Michigan, died March 2, 2003. Mr. Hood was born February 24, 1919 in Cadillac, Michigan the son of William and Hulda (Housel) Hood. Harley served in the US Army during World War II, and is a member of the VFW Post 701 of Lansing. He is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He retired from General Motors in Lansing in 1984. Mr. Hood is survived by sons Robert Hood of Illinois, Gilbert, Charles, and Richard Hood of Charlotte, Michigan, Tom Hood of Battle Creek, Michigan, Steve Hood of Oregon and daughters Anna Hood and Carol Knox of Texas. He was preceded in death by his First wife Eilene (Gilbert), son Harley H. Hood, Jr. in 2002 and his second wife Geraldine in 2000 and his sister Ellenora Hill in 1999 and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. George Rhye officiating. Interment will be in Perry Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association or the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Doris Maye Wolff
68, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Mrs. Wolff was born May 23, 1934, in Sunfield Township, Michigan the daughter of Orla H. and Agnes (Blackmer) Culver. Doris was an upholsterer for the Charlotte Chair Company. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Charlotte and Sisters of the Grand Army of the Republic in Sunfield. She is survived by brother, Robert Culver of Lake Odessa, sisters Lois Johanson of Rogers, Arkansas, and Polly Black of Charlotte, step daughter June E. Brown, aunt, Maxine Blackmer of Eaton Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Wolff in 1986. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Wilcox Cemetery in Maple Grove Township, Michigan. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Thursday at Pray Funeral Home.
