Robert Goodrich
Robert Goodrich, 75, of Hastings died Jan. 23, 2000.
Mr. Goodrich was born Dec. 8, 1924 in Battle Creek, the son of Eddy and Bethel Goodrich, and was associated with his father and grandfather in the Starks/Goodrich Auto Dealership in Olivet for many years. He served his country honorable, having received several medals. He married Phyllis White Sept. 14, 1947 and enjoyed music, playing golf and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis; one son, Gregory (Sandra); two grandsons Gregory Robert and Dylan Michael; one sister-in-law, Florence (Eugene) Royston; several nieces and nephews; and puppy, McGee.
Services were Jan. 26, 2000 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Jeffrey Bowman officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House.
Joseph Gorodensky
Joseph “Joey” H. Gorodensky, 41, of Vermontville died Feb. 15, 2000 at his home.
Mr. Gorodensky was born Dec. 23, 1958 in Hastings, the son of Joseph and Edith (Rose) Gorodensky. He attended Maple Valley High School and married Janice Cobb Jan. 15, 1999 in Charlotte. He had been employed by American Bumper Co. in Ionia, Ewing Well drilling in Vermontville, had done construction work and owned his own landscaping business in Florida. He enjoyed carpentry work, gardening, hunting, mushrooming, children, and all animals, especially horses.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; two daughters, Katie Jo Kelly of Athens and Nicola Gorodenski; one stepdaughter, Christie Osborne of Charlotte; two stepsons, Jared and Richard Osborne, both of Nashville; one granddaughter, Christianna; his mother, Edith (Frank) Furlong of Florida; his father, Joseph (Elaine) of Nashville; four sisters, Elaine (Jeff) Geiger of Lake Odessa, Sharon (Jo Kubek) Whitaker of Hasting, Kim (Tad) Lubitz of Woodland, and Barbie (Jeff) Sharritt of Florida; three brothers, Edward Gorodenski and Glen (Jolie) Gorodenski, both of Hastings, and Frankie Furlong of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nicholo and Valeria Gorodenski and Harold and Marie Rose.
Services were Feb. 18 at the Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville, with the Rev. Andy Frey officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.

Martha Grant
Martha Grant, 64, of Charlotte, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Thursday, Sept. 14, taking her place with the Lord.
A more loving and caring person there will never be. She will be remembered in the smiles and laughter of all the lives she touched. Tura, Lura, Lura.
Mrs. Grant’s legacy is her children, five daughters, Martha, Barbara, Coffee, Dawn and Erin; three sons, Ethan, David and Joshua. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren; two sisters, Linda and Onnie; and two brothers, B.K. and Edward.
Services were held at the Grant residence in Charlotte Sept. 18 with family and friends. Arrangements were made by the Palmer-Bush Funeral Chapel, Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Larry L. Green
Larry L. Green, 64, of Marion, Ind., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000 at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ind.
Mr. Green was born on Oct. 1, 1936 in Marion, Ind., and lived in Marion all his life. He worked in production at the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo for 27 years, retiring in 1995. He loved doing picture puzzles and playing the lotteries.
Surviving are four daughters, Vicki (Mike) Talbert, Darcy (Charles) Kling and Sherry Baswell, all of Marion, Ind., and Laura (Chandler) Miller of Elkhart, Ind.; three sons, Anthony (Cindy) of Huntington, Ind., Arrick (Anne) and Shane, both of Marion, Ind.; four sisters, Evelyn Dille and Lucille Forrester, both of Marion, Ind., Katherine Palmer of Wabash, Ind., and Geneva Grey of Anderson, Ind., ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Green on May 29, 1997; and a sister, Maxine York.
Funeral services were held Dec. 6 at Raven Funeral Home, Marion, Ind., with Rev. Charles McKnight officiating. Entombment was at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Ind.

James Grier
James Grier, 80, a resident of Heritage Manor, Houghton, passed away at his home early Wednesday morning, Jan. 5, 2000 following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Grier was born May 28, 1919 in Eaton County, a son of the late Paul and Velma Lenore (Edman) Grier. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School and had attended the agricultural program at Michigan State University. He had also completed a Dale Carnegie Course. He later lived in Hastings for four years, and came to Tapiola to make his home nine years ago. Since Nov. of 1999, he made his home at Heritage Manor in Houghton. Mr. Grier was a retired dairy farmer, and had also served as a substitute mail carrier in the Charlotte area. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army, and was wounded in Iceland. While he was a patient at the Veteran’s Hospital in North Carolina, he was united in marriage to Pauline Thompson on Aug. 14,1943. He attended a Methodist Church, and was a member of the National Farmers Organization, the Farm Bureau, and, American Legion Post #42, where he served as a past commander. He had served as past third district commander of the American Legion, and was a member of the VFW and the DAV.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline; five daughters, Linda (David) Rulison of Tapiola, Rosemary Grier (John Welch) of Tapiola, Gloria (Bruce) Griffith of Springfield, Ore., Sandra (Mitch) McGarvey of Howell, Katie (Paul) Goudreault of River Falls, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Edmand (Ruth) Grier of Charlotte; two sisters, Barbara (Joseph) Nelson, and Julia (Harold) Weaver, both of Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
As requested by the deceased, there was no visitation and the body was cremated. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, 2p.m. at the American Legion, Charlotte, with Rev. Jeff Bowman officiating.

Phyllis M. Grier
Phyllis M. Grier, 75, of Charlotte died Sept. 22, 2000.
Mrs. Grier was born July 12, 1925 in Eaton Co., the daughter of Robert and Alice (Comstock) Thornton.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Grier of Lansing; one son, Michael (Connie) of Charlotte; one daughter-in-law, Ann Grier of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, William Fredrick Grier Oct. 20, 1996; one son, Robert David Grier on March 2, 2000; and one grandson, Jeffery in 1984.
Services were Sept. 25 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Robert Grier
Robert Davis Grier, 51, of Charlotte, Michigan died Wednesday, March 1, 2000.
Mr. Grier was born August 12, 1948 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of William Fredrick and Phyllis Mary (Thornton) Grier. He recently worked as an apprentice operator at Owens Illinois after many years with Griers TV Shop.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years Ann Christine (Bartolocci), daughter Amy (Jim) Flowers of Battle Creek, sons: Robert Grier and Fiancée Jamie Watson of Florida, Richard Grier of Ft. Hood, Texas, grandson Sean Patrick Flower of Battle Creek, his mother Phyllis, brother Mike (Connie) Grier of Charlotte, sister Susan Grier of Lansing, Uncle Phillip and Aunt Marilyn Masters of Northville and Aunt Caryl Grier of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1996 and son Jeffery in 1984.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2000 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Father Thomas Nenneau officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., Rosary service 2:00p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

Barbara Grooms
Barbara (Schneeberger) Grooms, 48, of Dimondale, died May 26, 2000 at a Lansing hospital.
Mrs. Grooms was born Oct. 15, 1951 in Lansing, a daughter of Glenn and Alice (Umlor) Schneeberger. A 1970 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, she was employed at Independence Village and formerly at Don’s Windmill Truck Stop, Dimondale.
She is survived by her mother, Alice Schneeberger; three sisters, Donna (James) Hammel, Bonnie Schneeberger, and Jackie (Daniel) Pope; two brothers, Donald Schneeberger and Roger (Bev) Schneeberger; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Schneeberger.
Services were May 31 at Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with the Rev. John Toth officiating. Interment was in the Dimondale Cemetery.
Maxine M. Gyger
Maxine M. Gyger, 79, of Charlotte died Dec. 24, 2000 at Tendercare South Nursing Home, Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Gyger was born in Antioch Township, Wexford County, the daughter of Edwin and Ruth (Thornton) Shrontz and had been a Charlotte resident since 1965. She had been an auditor for the state of Michigan County Fair Division, retiring in January 1987 after 13 years of service. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Maple City Post #2406 VFW Auxiliary, Charlotte.
She is survived by one son, Jack (Nancy) of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis and one daughter, Judith Richardson.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
Memorial services are Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg officiating. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Marjorie Hackett
Marjorie (Hunt) Hackett, 59, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Vermontville, died Feb. 13, 2000.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Charles; two sons, Bill Lomax of Norfolk, Va., and Mel Lomax of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jonathen, Sarah, Brian and Yvette; two sisters, Joan (Larry) Weiler and Wanda (Earl) Sebolt, both of Charlotte; one brother, Ronald (Betty) Hunt of Charlotte; and, many nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned and no memorial services will be held.
