Hazel Claflin
Hazel (Clever) Claflin, 92, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Charlotte, died Feb. 17, 2000.
Mrs. Claflin was born March 25, 1907 the daughter of Earl and Wilda (Shaul) Clever. During her lifetime career of secretarial / bookkeeping work, she was employed by Clever Implement and Coal Co., Munger Hardware, Jury-Rowe Furniture Co., Mapes Furniture Store, and Ethan Allen – Allen Gallery, and retired in the late 1970’s. She was a lifetime member of the Charlotte Congregational Church United Church of Christ and its Mary-Martha Circle.
She is survived by three sons, Richard (Bonnie) of Grand Ledge, Donald (Pat) of ST. Petersburg, Fla., and Ted of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Derinda (Eldred) Claflin of Charlotte and Holly Beth (Dave) Carpenter of Olivet; and one great-granddaughter, Nichole Eldred of Charlotte.
Graveside services were Feb. 21 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, with the Rev. Dr. Peter Brenner officiating. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial donations may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery or the Charlotte Congregational Church.
Theodore E. Claflin
Theodore “Ted” E. Claflin, 60, of Charlotte, died July 28, 2000.
Mr. Claflin was born April 19, 1940 in Charlotte, the son of Rex and Hazel (Clever) Claflin. He graduated from Western Michigan University, then taught in the Grand Ledge School system for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He had managed Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte for the past four years.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 12:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Peter Brenner officiating. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Maple Hill Cemetery; envelopes will be available at the memorial service.
Paul R. Clair
Paul R. Clair, of Lansing, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at the age of 29. He was born May 6, 1971 in Ann Arbor the son of Rev. Robin & Judith (Wieman) Clair. Paul was a 1989 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School and participated in many school activities including Football, Wrestling, Quiz Bowl, Drama and Choir Ensemble. Paul’s goal in life was to become a minister and had recently completed a course at Berean School of Ministry. He was an active member of the Mount Hope Church where he was involved in the choir and many of their Holiday Productions. He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Robin Clair, in 1997.
Surviving are his mother, Judy (Jack) Pepple; 3 siblings, Troy (Tammy) Clair, Todd (Carleen) Clair, Christa (Todd) McLane; 9 nieces and nephews; 2 stepbrothers, Larry (Chrisy) Pepple & Ed Pepple.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, 2000 at Mount Hope Church with Rev. Gary Uptigrove officiating. Internment was in Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were made by the Palmer-Bush Delta Chapel, Lansing. Memorials can be made to Mount Hope Church in memory of Paul.
Laurence Clark
Laurence Carlton Clark, 100, of Charlotte died July 9, 2000. Mr. Clark was born July 17, 1899 in Drumbo, Ontario, Canada. He had been a grape farmer near Silver Creek, N.Y. of over 25 years before his retirement. For the last four years, he lived with his daughter, Mary Ann Dickinson of Charlotte.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann (David) Dickinson of Charlotte and Eileen (David) Salzman of Sebring, Fla.; one son John (Jackie) Clark of Lodi, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister Mary Keyes of Princeton, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Bea Clark.
Services and internment were held in Sebring, Fla. Arrangements were made by the Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring.
Maxine Cook
Maxine Cook, 75, of Vermontville, formerly of Delta Mills, passed away Nov. 17, 2000 at her farm.
Mrs. Cook was born Oct. 9, 1925 in Ingham Co., the daughter of Harry and Estella (Baumgrass) Parkhurst. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, president of the Vermontville Garden Club, and enjoyed the Vermontville Senior Citizens Wednesday Lunch Club.
Surviving are six sons, Floyd of Charlotte, LeRoy (Elaine) of Bellevue, Harry (Karyn) of Battle Creek, and Larry, Rex (Deborah) and Mark (Tonya), all of Vermontville; 19 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Jackie) Parkhurst of Dansville; two sisters, Beverly Parkhurst of Dansville and Marion Parkhurst of Mason; several nieces and nephews; and special niece, Rachel Parkhurst of Dansville.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; two infant sons, Carl and Earl; daughter, Mary Dewitt; granddaughter, Anne Dewitt of Lexington, N.C.; and brother, Raymond Parkhurst.
Services were held Nov. 20 at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. Phillip Altes, Charles Jenson and Richard Garn officiating. Interment was at Delta Mills Cemetery.
Donna J. Cooper
Donna J. Cooper, age 62, died at her home February 19, 2000. She was born September 28, 1937 in Jackson County, Michigan, the daughter of Gaylord and Arda May (Cowles) Baum. She lived in the Springport area for most of her life. She worked at Baums Dairy for numerous years and later at L&J Machine & Tool. She was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge and bowled for their team. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry F. Cooper, in November 1999, a brother, Forrest and parents.
Surviving are 2 sons, Floyd (Sharon Kay) Cooper of Albion and Jeff (Paula) Cooper of Springport; 3 daughters, Cheryl Reitz of Jackson, Peggy Sue (Tim) Brockwell of Horton and Julie (Lanny) Clawson of Albion; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Brasseur, Steven Brasseur, Craig Brasseur, Charles and Stacy Cooper, Jenny Cooper, Amy and Alicia Clawson, Travis and Joey Cooper; 3 sisters, Loretta Lincoln of Springport, Nellie (George) Hindes of New Orleans, Louisiana, Carol (Dick) Tymkew of Sturgis; 2 brothers, Floyd (Janice) Baum of Springport and Garold (Bev) Baum of Rives Jct.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23rd, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd- Williams Funeral Chapels with Rev. Robert Doner officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Parma, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 22, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Elaine Coppock
Elaine Coppock, 79, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte and Olivet, died Jan. 1, 2000 in Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Coppock was born in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Paully) Schroeder. She graduated summa cum laude from Olivet College in 1965 where she earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and later earned a master’s degree in languages from the University of Michigan. She taught school in the Olivet schools for 21 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte, and on the Women’s Board of Olivet College.
She is survived by one son, Al (Lynn) of Grand Rapids; one daughter-in-law, Juli Coppock of Palmer, Alaska; five grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Kerr of Oklahoma City, Okla., Brant (Holly) Coppock of Benton Harbor, Chad Coppock and Danielle Coppock, both of Grand Rapids, and Teya (Chris) Stassimos of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two step-granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hal (Shirley) Schroeder of Livonia, Dr. Alfred (Barbara) Schroeder of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Dr. Carl (Bobbie) Schroeder of Wenatchee, Wash.; two sister-in-law, Jean Laraway of Ariz. And Kay Hodgson of Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett in August 1996 and one son, Everett, in July 1999.
Services were Jan. 4 at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Rogers City. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church for its Stephen Ministries.
Dolores Corbin
Dolores Corbin, age 98, died Thursday, March 2, 2000 in Charlotte. Dolores was born August 19, 1901 in Wheeler, MI the daughter of William and Myrtle (Welch) Rittenour. She had been a cook for Baldy’s Restaurant in Eaton Rapids for many years. Mrs. Corbin was preceded in death by her son, Dallis F. Schultz in 1987 and daughter, Dorothy Elston in 1994.
Surviving are her daughter Donna (Clyde) Oberlin of Eaton Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great- grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, March 4, 2000 at Rosehill Cemetery with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Arrangements were made by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. www.Legacy.com.
Margaret “Maggie” Corliss
Margaret “Maggie” Corliss, age 81 of McBain and formerly of the Tustin area, died at Autumnwood of McBain on June 23, 2000. She was born in Dimondale on December 11, 1918 to Gershom & Ruth (Hershbarger) Wiborn. She married Donald Corliss at Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 16, 1956. He preceded her in death in 1995. Margaret was a Registered Nurse and had worked at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Her last employment was a salad prep for Caberfae Motor Lodge in Cadillac. She had worked there for 15 years and retired in 1980. She enjoyed gardening, house plants, crocheting, reading, her animals, and antiques. She was a very spunky and social person. She dearly enjoyed her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to sports events.
Surviving are son, George (Deb) Corliss of McBain; 2 stepsons, Kenneth (Linda) Corliss of Kalamazoo and Donald Corliss, Jr. of Sturgis; 1 adopted son, Ronald Kitchen of Marquette; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Roberta Wiborn of Dimondale; nieces, nephews & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Robert Wiborn, John Wiborn, Cy Wiborn and Roland Wiborn.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 27th, at 1p.m. at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain with George Corliss officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Township Cemetery. Memorial tributes can be made to Listen American Drug Prevention Programs.
Metha Mae Cosgray
Metha Mae Cosgray, age 100 of Chelsea and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, September 3, 2000 at the Chelsea Retirement Center in Chelsea. She was born July 15, 1900 in Tecumseh, Michigan, the daughter of Clarence and Ida (Derby) Allison. Mrs. Cosgray was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. Preceding her in death was her husband Wm. Frank Cosgray, in 1980.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Jim Allison of Illinois, Janet Bryant of Illinois, Phillip Osburn of Stockbridge, Ted Osburn of Ft. Myers, FL, Don Osburn of Wayne, Doris Scott of Claremont, Mass., and Jeannette Schneider of Stockbridge; several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 6th at 11 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Marty DeBow of the Robbins United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh, MI. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Metha Mae Cosgray.
Harold Cotton
Harold Buehler Cotton, 76, of Mulliken, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
Mr. Cotton was born in Vermontville, the son of Dale and Leone (Buehler) Cotton. He had strong work ethic, loved farming, and was a skilled tradesman for General Motors. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Helen (Buster); sons, Harry (Brenda) Cotton of Montpelier, Ohio, and Howard Cotton of Mulliken; daughter, Helene (David) Larson of Eaton Rapids; granddaughter, Michelle Larson; and sister, Barbara Best of Eaton Rapid.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Leone Cotton; sister, Madeline Pennington; and grandchildren, Dale, Becky and Susan Cotton.
Funeral services were held March 25 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.

Shirley A. Cousino
Shirley Ann Cousino, 65, of Clarence Township, Olivet died Dec. 6, 2000 at the home of her niece.
Miss Cousino was born Aug. 5, 1935 in Bono, Ohio, the daughter of Roger and Dorothy (Garver) Cousino. She was employed at Hoover in Charlotte for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Albion and enjoyed crocheting, baby sitting, gardening and reading.
She is survived by one sister, Marge (Larry) McComb of Marshall; three brothers, Leonard Cousino of Homer, Stanley Cousino of Howell and Merlin Cousino of Albion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carol, and one brother, Carl.
Mass is Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Albion, with Fr. Gordon Green officiating. Interment is in the Albion Memory Gardens.
