Terrence 'Tate' David Mix
50, of Woodland, Michigan, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Mix was born February 17, 1953, Chicago, Illinois, the son of Louis and Eva (Shereyk) Mix. Tate was Principal of Alternative Education for Maple Valley Schools and Director of the Second Chance Program thru Eaton County Probate Court. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard, Nashville Masonic Lodge #255 F&AM, and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Pamela (Townsend), sons Jeff (Selena) Duits of Sunfield, Greg (Tricia) Duits of Woodland, Chris Duits of Sunfield, 5 grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Hannah, Austin and Sophie Duits, sister Vicki (David) Thompson of Vermontville, brother Jeffrey Mix of Ohio, brother Kevin (Linda) Mix of Wacousta, his parents Louis and Eva Mix of Vermontville, sisters-in-law Peggy (Ron) France of Lake Odessa, Barbara (Darrel) Bosworth of Mulliken, Shelley Steward of Woodland, mother-in-law Wilma Townsend of Lake Odessa and many nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his father-in-law Frank Townsend, brother-in-law Jeff Steward and nephew Lucas Steward. Terry was a loving and compassionate man. The love he gave was returned by all those whose lives he touched. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Grace Community Church, Nashville, Michigan with Clark Volz - Superintendent of Maple Valley Schools, Pastor Douglas Reichenbach and Pastor Darrel Bosworth officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, Michigan. A Rosary Service will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. The family will receive visitors Thursday 6 - 8 p.m., Friday 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Archie L. Weller
71, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Weller was born December 29, 1931, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd and Florence (Allen) Weller. He married Linda Everett, October 29, 1971. Archie served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post #225 of Lansing. He had been an electrician for General Motors for 13 years, retiring in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Linda, two sons, Benny (Chris) of West Olive, Brian of Charlotte, Todd (Nicole) of St. Louis, Michigan, three daughters, Belinda (Brian) Fitz of Holland, Amy (Dale) Hicks of Lake Odessa, and Yvonne and fiancée, Harold Robbins of Parma, six grandchildren, sister: Kathleen Perdue of Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Monday, March 10, at Pray Funeral Home, with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating, with burial at Gresham Cemetery, Chester Township. Visitation will be 7-9 Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Capital Area Humane Society or the Lansing Rescue Mission.

Rebecca A. Cherry
73, of Ellsworth, Michigan, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 8, 2003. Mrs. Cherry was born April 14, 1929, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Albert and Esther (Kraft) Hurlbut. She married Maurice Cherry, who preceded her in death. She is survived by sons Eric (Gail) of Ellsworth and Calvin (Wilma Jo) of Charlotte; by daughters Linda (Tony) Reiff of Bluffton, IN, Bonnie Cherry of Lansing, and Maurine (Tom) Bethke of Harbor Springs; seven grandchildren, three sisters Marian Baker, Judith Cain, and Rosemary Rowley; and brother James Hurlbut. Mrs. Cherry had been a long time member of Crossroads Church of the United Brethren. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, March 11th at Crossroads Church of the United Brethren Church, 809 E. Shepherd, Charlotte with Harold, Herbert, and Howard Cherry officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 pm Monday. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads United Brethren Church, Charlotte.

Florence Marian Kline
formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Kelsey Memorial Health Center, Lakeview, Michigan. Mrs. Kline was born August 12, 1908 in Chester Township, the daughter of David and Grace (Rogers) Baker. Marian married James Ferguson August 29, 1928. He preceded her in death August 5, 1972. She then married George Dean who preceded her in death, and then George Kline who also preceded her in death. Marian had been a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Business Women's Guild, Eaton County Extension, life member of OES #218 Maple City Chapter, and Ruth Circle at church. She had worked in Children Services of Probate court for many years. Surviving are three sons, Carlton L. (Mary) of Greenville, Wendell J. (Joan) of Waterloo, Iowa, and John D. (Jo) of Mesa, AZ, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a brother, Vance (Neva) Baker of Charlotte. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, March 12th, at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.

Chrystal Ann Eaton
15 of Charlotte, died March 10, 2003. Miss Eaton was born May 1, 1987 in Lansing, Michigan. Chrystal was a Charlotte High School sophomore who participated in several sports, including senior high school softball, junior high school volleyball, and set records in track and field events in elementary through high school. She was on the Honor Roll, a member of the Naval Sea Cadets and a volunteer for the Courthouse Square Association. Chrystal loved music, played the guitar, sang and danced and was a student of Karate, earning a purple belt. She is survived by mother Christine, grandparents Arlo and Fran Eaton of Charlotte, uncles Jim (Sharyn) Eaton of Duck Lake, Jack Eaton of Traverse City, Tom Eaton of Florida, great grandparents Helen & Roy Grill of Lansing, many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Grill, Leek, Nickerson, Hetchler, Eaton, Hubbel and Gunn families. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13 at the First Congregational Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment will be at Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Courthouse Square Association.

Fred Koning Jr.
of Hudson, Florida, formerly of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away Tuesday March 18, 2003 in Pownal, Vermont at the age of 48. Mr. Koning was born May 28, 1954 in Grand Rapids to his parents Fred and Evelyn (Reil) Koning. He is survived by his 3 children, Fred Koning III of Nashville, Heather Koning of Freeport, and Brooke Koning of Grand Rapids, one granddaughter Jaelynn Purdum of Freeport, his mother Evelyn Koning Charlotte and Sister Kim Schneider of Charlotte, former wife Jane Jones of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Koning Sr. in 1989. Friends and family are invited to a Family Affirmation Service for Mr. Koning at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Pray Funeral Home, 401 W. Seminary in Charlotte.

Mrs. Daisy Henry
age 87, of Lansing, Michigan, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Henry was the daughter of Forrest and Anna (Lindsey) Sharp. She is survived by daughters Donna Solomon of Lansing, Nancy (Bill) Rhode of Fairfax, Virginia. brother Bruce Bumford of Lawrence, Kansas, grandchildren Dion and Deann Morgan, Todd Tyler, Sarah and Ann Rode, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Keith Henry in 1990 and Carl Twitchell in 1965. Arrangements are being handled by Pray Funeral Home, 401 W. Seminary Street, Charlotte, Michigan. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Monday, March 24, 2003, with Rev. Darryl Hartwell officiating.

Marvin Kendell Jackson
79 of Charlotte, died Friday, March 28, 2003. Mr. Jackson was born August 29, 1923 in Fillmore, Indiana, the son of Henry and Ethel (Ogle) Jackson. He was an accountant with IBM and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmetto, Florida. He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Smith) Jackson, 2 sons, Morris "Moe" (Cheryl) Jackson of Charlotte, and Brice (Jane) Jackson of Greencastle, Indiana, daughter Patty (Melvin) Grimes of Russellville, Indiana, 4 grandchildren, Christina, Stacey, John, and Jeffrey, and brother Harold (Lillian) Jackson of Bloomington, Indiana. An infant daughter, Brenda, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 31, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment will be at Fillmore Cemetery in Fillmore, Indiana. Visitation will be 5-8 PM. Sunday at the funeral home. Following funeral services, Mr. Jackson will be taken to the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle, Indiana where there will be visitation Monday evening from 6-9 PM with a graveside committal service 10:30AM Tuesday at Fillmore Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Eaton Community Hospice.

Leo Poskey
81 of Potterville, died March 28, 2003. Mr. Poskey was born January 1, 1922 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of John and Anna (Schaulas) Poskey. He was a farmer, retired from Oldsmobile after 33 years, and was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran with the 97th Division. He is survived by his wife Alta May (Faulkner) Poskey, sister Minnie Grihorash of Dearborn Heights, step-sister Mary Taylor of Redford, step-brother Henry Lucas of Lake Leelanau and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Becky Morrison officiating. Interment will be at West Windsor Cemetery in Windsor Township. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday. If desired, contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church or the Hospice House of Mid Michigan.

Darwin J. E. Barnard
72 of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, March 31, 2003 in Lansing. Mr. Barnard was born in Fowlerville, Michigan, February 19, 1931, the son of Harry L. and Irene (Blair) Barnard. Darwin served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He had been employed by Wohlert Corporation, retiring in 1993. He is survived by daughter Darlene Austin of Lansing, Michigan, sons Darwin Jay Barnard and Edward Darwin Barnard of Lansing, Michigan, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, three brothers, Alden and Marshall of Charlotte, Michigan and Dean of California, two sisters, Marie Wilson-Saunders of Charlotte, Michigan, Norlene Esterline of Cambia, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Viola, March 5, 2002, his brother Harry Jr., sisters, Barbara Mann and Dorene Barnard. Funeral services will 1PM Friday, at Five Corners Church, Charlotte, with Pastor Marten Saunders and Rev. Curtis Napier officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 Thursday at Pray Funeral Home Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Gloria J. Siefert
77, of Olivet, died March 31, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Siefert was born March 17, 1926 in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Ray and Jennovee (Williams) Powers. She especially enjoyed her grandkids, playing cards and bingo. She is survived by sons Tom (Vicki) Siefert of Jackson, Terry (Susan) Siefert of Springport, daughters Barbara (David) Reynolds of Olivet, Darlene (Randy) Moore of Albion, Roxanne (Denny) Hayes of Olivet, 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brothers Wayne Powers of Olivet, Lansing Powers of Marshall, sisters Bethel Kaiser of Arizona, Martha Proteau of Charlotte and Christina Richardson of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard A. Siefert in 1976, son Patrick in 1992 and siblings Betty Lou, Goldie, Melvin and Jacob. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 3 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Duane Royston officiating. Interment will be at Clarence Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, Huron Valley Ambulance in Albion or Jackson.

Donald A. Merren
60 of Bellevue, went to be with the Lord, April 1, 2003. Mr. Merren was born December 23, 1942 in Kent County, Michigan, the son of John Henry and Leora Jane (Brownyard) Merren. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He worked for Tucker Inc. and Contract Supply Inc. He was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1004. He is survived by his wife Janet (Campbell) Merren, son, Scott of Charlotte, three daughters, Loretta (Mark Lee) Betts of Hulbert, Michigan, Kimberly Ann Rounds (Pat) of St Johns, Michigan and Deanna Barneem (Louis VanElsacker) of Northland, Michigan, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his mother and step father, Leora and Albert P. Smith of Marshall, brother, John Edward (Patricia) Merren of Toledo, sister, Mary (Charles) Crosby of Marshall and sister-in-law, Dorene Bearndt, mother-in-law Francis Campbell, Barb and Leroy Cole, Pauline and Grover Bibler, Marlene Stravos and Paul Ulrich, Paul and Linda Campbell, Gale & Cathy Campbell, Veronica Crawford, Judy Campbell, and Kay & Andrew Pray. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip in 2000, brother, William in 1977, his father, John, in 1962, father-in-law Milo D. Campbell in 1988 and brother-in-law Gerald M. Campbell in 1967. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Roy Atherton officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arlo Clare Williams, Sr.
age 76 of Barryton, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday. Arlo was born May 15, 1926, in Bellevue, the son of Wayne and Martha (Wight) Williams. He served in the Navy for 15 years; 12 of those years as a Seabee. Upon honorable discharge he earned and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia. In 1987 he retired from the Eaton County Road Commission after 27 years of fulfilling his love in operating heavy machinery, and one experience involving a cow and a bulldozer. Arlo was preceded in death by sons Steven and Wesley and is survived by his brother Allen (Ann) Williams of Arizona, children Arlo Williams, Jr. of Coldwater, Linda (Ron) Mudwilder of Kent, Washington, Glenn (Donna) Williams of Charlotte, 11 grandchildren including special granddaughter Michaelia (Andy) Papranec of Eaton Rapids and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Big Rapids Hospice.
