Lucy Dewey
Lucy Florence Dewey, 81, of Charlotte died Jan. 19, 2000.
Mrs. Dewey was born April 9, 1918, the daughter of George and Elsie (Barnard) Barry in Fowlerville.
She was a member of the Gleaners Lodge of the Rebekahs and a lifelong member of Past Worthy Matron of the Arbutus Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, George (Pam) of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Ramona Leiter of Standish; four grandsons, Jason, Clayton, Levi and Zebediah, all the children of Mark Dewey; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Katie Leiter; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1972.
Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Services are Sunday, Jan. 23, at the funeral home with Pastor Martin Saunders officiating. Interment is the Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville.

Margaret E. Dodd
Margaret Ella Dodd, 89, of Charlotte, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000.
Mrs. Dodd was born June 15, 1911 in Benton Twp., the daughter of Hal and Carrie (Locke) Haun, and was a lifelong resident of Benton Twp. She was a retired deputy register of probate of Eaton County. She was a member of the West Benton United Methodist Church, a former member of the Business Women’s Guild, and the Eaton County Historical Society.
Surviving are two nieces, Margaret (Paul Hossler) Bignall of Ann Arbor and Kay (Charles) Bolles of N.C.; two grand nieces, Kerry (Thomas) Weisel and Anne (Joseph) Galeone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Dodd on Sept. 27, 1983; and sister, Mildred Barnhill in 1995.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Jeff Bowman officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Evelyn Doll
Evelyn Doll, 81, died Jan. 31, 2000.
Sister Doll was born in Plentywood, Mont., Sept. 18, 1918, the daughter of Victor and Anna (Menz) Doll. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Parish in Pontiac at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sister of St. Joseph June 19, 1934. She received the name Sister Maris Stella at a reception Jan. 7, 1935, but later returned to using her baptismal name. She pronounced temporary vows Jan. 8, 1937 and final vows Jan. 8, 1940.
She earned a bachelor’s degree at Nazareth College and a master’s degree in education at the University of Detroit. She taught for nearly 50 years in many schools of the congregation including: St. Mary, Charlotte; St. John, Davison (served as principal); St. Joseph, Battle Creek; Immaculate Conception, Anchorville; St. Rita, Detroit; St. Mary, Grayling; and Holy Angels, Sturgis. She loved children and her work in the classroom.
After completing her teaching career at Holy angels Parish, she moved into Christian service in the same parish to minister to the elderly. From 1985-93, coordinating a program for older parishioners, planning activities and ministering to the homebound and shut-ins. In 1993, she retired to Nazareth as a pastoral minister to many of the sick sisters.
At the time of her Diamond Jubilee, she wrote: “From the very beginning of my life at Nazareth, my inner self was nourished, encouraged and fortified with all manner of grounding and wisdom.” At the same time, she was clever, humorous person who enjoyed life to the fullest. She had many good friends and was close to her family. In her last illness, she was calm and unafraid. In a beautiful letter to those whom she loved, she said: “To see God when I didn’t expect to! How many words describe Him in our lives and yet do not adequately praise Him. That’s why there is a refulgence that fills my being.” Now, at last her union with the God she desired so much is complete.
Mass of the Christian Burial was Feb. 3 at Holy Family Chapel.
Beulah L. Dostie
Beulah L. Dostie, 84, of Olivet died Sept. 10, 2000 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.
Mrs. Dostie was born Aug. 31, 1916 in Bellevue Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Ardie and Lillie (Lewis) Thornton and lived most of her life in Eaton County. She is a 1934 graduate of Olivet High School, retired employee of Olivet College, member of the Ainger Bible Church and its Ambassador Class and Ladies Missionary Society, and member of the Olivet Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two daughters, Janetta (William) Shilling of Olivet and Shirley Moore of Torrington, Wyo.; three sons, LaWayne (Carol) Emerson and Lee Emerson, both of Olivet, and Jerrold (Roseann) Emerson of Charlotte; one stepson, Maurice (Jacqueline) Dostie Jr. of Battle Creek; one daughter-in-law, Dagmar Dostie of Battle Creek; 19 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Dostie in 1991 and one stepson, Delbert Dostie.
Services were Sept. 13 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Scott Brood of the Ainger Bible Church officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Charles James Dowding
Charles James Dowding, age 90 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, November 19, 2000 at the Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte. He was born September 30, 1910 in Lee Township, Calhoun County, the son of James and Ruby (McGinn) Dowding. Mr. Dowding was a Marshall High School graduate and received a Teaching Degree from Western Michigan University. He retired with 35 years of service as a teacher from the Eaton Rapids Public Schools. He volunteered his time as a crossing guard on Main Street and helped out in the Lunch Room at Northwestern Schools for several years following retirement. He was a member of the Eaton Rapids Teacher’s Association and Western Michigan Alumni Association. Preceding him in death was a brother, Ray and sister, Clara Wolfe.
Surviving are his brother Bernard Tanner of Georgia; several nieces and nephews including Bruce (Charlene) Dowding of Olivet; great nieces and nephews including Cherri (Larry) Brester, Cathy Dowding and Bruce (Tammi) Dowding, Jr. all of Olivet.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at 1 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Dr. David D’Arcy of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Judy Lynn Dowding
Judy L. Dowding, age 59 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, September 3, 2000 at eh Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing. She was born June 15, 1941 in Eaton Rapids the daughter of Gerald and Myrtle (Slayton) Holbrook. Judy graduated from the Seventh Day Adventist Academy in Grand Ledge in 1959, and received an associates degree in Accounting. She married Donald Dowding on October 24, 1959 in Eaton Rapids. Judy was currently employed by the Department of Agriculture Farm Services in Eaton County for he past 11 years and was previously employed for 12 years with Aluminium Extrusions in Charlotte. She was preceded by her parents; brother, Robert Ott; and brother-in-law, William Riley.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Don; son, Troy Dowding; daughter, Jody (Jim) Dean all of Eaton Rapids; grandchild, Troy and 2 step-grandchildren, Ardith and Samantha; brother, Jack (Gerry) Holbrook of Eaton Rapids; 5 sisters, Joyce Virginia McCarrick of Eaton Rapids, JoAnne Holbrook of Eaton Rapids, June Riley of Kentucky, Diane (Tim) McDonnell of Lansing and Marilyn (Robert) Taggert of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 7th at 1 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Carl Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarence Center Cemetery at Duck Lake in Calhoun County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. James Allen Drake
James Allen Drake of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, November 27, 2000 at a Lansing hospital. He was born February 3, 1916 in Jackson, the son of Royal and Esther (Tuttle) Drake. Mr. Drake was a retired chief engineer for Lansing Drop Forge, retiring in 1981 after 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances on April 8, 1999.
Surviving are 3 children, James Gary (Marty) Drake of Lansing, Linda (Roy) Sebastian of Nashville and Gregory Allen (Tammy) Drake of Portland; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; special friend Ida Wright of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral arrangements were done by Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Private funeral services were held on Thursday, November 30th with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Lansing. Leo Dunn
Leo Frank Dunn, 65, of Charlotte died Feb. 18, 2000 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.
Mr. Dunn was born in Lansing, the son of William and Ethel (Loster) Dunn. He had been a lifetime farmer.
He is said to have been very generous and a great gardener, sharing garden produce with his neighbors.
He is survived by two sisters, Leona (Roy) Brown of Ionia and Mary Williams of East Lansing; two brothers, William of Charlotte and Robert (Sarah) Dunn of Eaton Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were Feb. 21 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Martin Saunders officiating.
Leo A. Ekins
Leo A. Ekins, age 70, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000. Leo was born July 12, 1929 in Bellevue, the son of George W. And Jennie Viola (Peck) Ekins. He was a life member of the VFW Charlotte Post #2406 and retired from Oldsmobile in 1977 after 30 years of service. Leo was a friend of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Gretton in 1999.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Pat (Bothwell); daughter, Janell Bush of Eaton Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Brad Luke and Alana Bush; sister-in-law, Ilo (Bud) Baldwin of Eaton Rapids; brother-in-law, Don (Betty) Bothwell of AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Stephen Klink officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers were Michael Baldwin, Kevin Baldwin, Jeff Baldwin, Douglas Baldwin, Dale Hawkins, and Robert Morrow with honorary bearers Bradley and Lucas Bush. Dorr K. Ellsworth
Dorr K. Ellsworth, age 65 of Springport, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at a Lansing hospital. He was born December 10, 1934 in Aurelius Township In Ingham County, the son of Clyde and Bernice (Hall) Ellsworth. Dorr was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1953. He was a former Purchasing Manager for Camshaft Machine in Jackson and retired from Dart Container in Mason in January of this year. Dorr had worked several years as a 4-H Leader and was on the board of the Eaton County 4-H Council. He was a member of the Shipping and Receiving Association of Michigan, a member of the Purchasing Managers Association of Michigan, and the Springport Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Beverly; 3 children, Christopher Ellsworth of Eaton Rapids, Julia (Steven) Pierce of Eaton Rapids and Kevin (Gisela) Ellsworth of Hollywood, FL; 2 grandchildren, Brooke (Kirk) Wiltse and Drew Pierce of Eaton Rapids; great-granddaughter, Athena Wiltse; brother, Dale (Sue) Ellsworth and sister, Mary Gates all of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Liz (Rich) Vandermolen of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services were held October 28th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Lambert McClintic officiating. Burial followed in the Griffith Cemetery in Jackson County. Fletcher Fhaner
Fletcher Fhaner, 74, of Potterville, died March 31, 2000.
Mr. Fhaner was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Benton Township, the son of Claude and Jessie (Merrill) Fhaner. He had been a crane operator for Oldsmobile, served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborn during World War II, and was a member of VFW Post #701, Lansing. He had also been a Potterville volunteer fireman for 30 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann (Jim) Neuman of Shelby and Carolyn (Russ) Carroll of Ludington; one son, Richard (Phyllis) Fhaner of Potterville; grandchildren, Susan, Daniel and Richard Fhaner of Potterville, Ben David and Steven Neuman of Shelby, and Mark and Matt Carroll of Ludington; one sister, Jeanette VanLoton of Potterville; and one brother, Bob (Maxine) Fhaner of Prudenville.
Services were April 3 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
