Carl Gallihugh
Carl Wilford Gallihugh, 78, of Olivet died March 30, 2002 surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mr. Gallihugh was born Feb. 17, 1922 in Battle Creek and moved to T Drive North in Lee Township at the age of 7 with his parents. IN 1944, he purchased a 100-acre farm for $1,750 also on T Drive North. He married Betty TenBrock of Wyoming Park Jan. 4, 1947 and together, they raised four children. He attended Michigan State University Agricultural Short Course, and with his wife’s aid, helped his parents’ farm, farmed his own acreage, and helped others at harvest time. While farming, he was a first class machinist at Ronan Kunzel of Marshall. He retired from Battle Creek Packaging and later returned to work at Hayes Machine in Marshall. He collected antique gas engines, antique tractors and old farm implements. He built his own railroad on the family farm, giving many rides to his grandchildren and local school children on a gas-powered railroad repair car.
He is survived by two daughters, Terri (Michael) Gordon of Comstock Park and Kim (Rickey) Schlehuber of Olivet; one son, Carl (Denise) Gallihugh of Olivet; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Arbutus Young of Battle Creek; one brother, Thomas Gallihugh of Ceresco; and, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Robin Barrus; and his parents, Humphrey and Hazel Gallihugh.
Services were April 3 at Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall, with the Rev. Richard Gordon and the Rev. Lindsay Howan officiating. Interment was in the Floral Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rice Creek Community Church or Bronson Methodist Trauma/Burn Unit, Kalamazoo.
Marguerite Gallihugh
Marguerite Gallihugh, 82, of Battle Creek died Jan. 21, 2000.
Mrs. Gallihugh was born Aug. 28, 1917 in Watertown, Conn., the daughter of Arthur and Luler (Johnson) Barber. She came to Battle Creek with her family when she was one-year-old, graduating from Battle Creek High School in 1936. She retired from Clark Equipment after 32 years of service, then spent winters in Mulberry, Fla. She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, reading and was an avid cat lover.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Raab of Nashville; one son, Nicholas Gutsue of Beverly Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Daisy Fazel of Wis., Lily Donahue of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Leona (David) Schmier of Flint; and two brothers, Ray (Loretta) Barber and Bill (Carol) Barber, both of Kalamazoo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1998, four brothers, Charles, Harold, Junior, Harry; and two sisters, Stella Rich and Alta Gray.
Cremation has taken place.
Services were Jan. 22 at the Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville, with the Rev. David Hustwick officiating.

Ronald C. Gallups
Ronald C. Gallups, age 51 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, October 17, 2000. Ronald was born October 12, 1949 in McKinney, Texas, the son of Claude and Betty (Flannery) Gallups. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam, a life member of the Purple Heart Association and was awarded the Silver Service Star. Ron was the owner and operator of Gallups Paint Contracting. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Gallups; sister, Charlotte and brother, Gary.
Surviving are his loving wife of 14 years, Diane (Browder). He was a loving father of 3 daughters, Christy (Paul), Mistie and Tamera; loving father of 2 sons, Mike (Kris) and Chris; loving grandfather of Jordan, Dakotah, Ryan; loving son of Betty Gallups of Texas; loving brother to Make (Judy), Glen, Jody (Harold) Davis and Kathy (Billy) Newport all of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held in Texas at the Chambersville Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Nancy Gates
Nancy Wilkinson Gates, 73, of Bellevue died March 8, 2000 at her daughter’s home in Bellevue.
Mrs. Gates was born July 4, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Leta (Hines) Wilkinson in Grand Ledge. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School, then moved to Bellevue in 1948. She worked at General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Battle Creek and Clark Equipment, retiring in 1982. She married Lawrence Gates Sept. 7, 1944 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Grand Ledge, of which she was a member. She was also a member of the Etc. Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Gay (Jim) Noble of Bellevue; one son, Craig (Glee) of Spring Hill, Fla.; four grandchildren, Maria Prestigiacomo, Mandy McMullin, La Nae Noble, and Brandie Mellion; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband May 2, 1999 and one sister, Jane Potter, in 1997.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were made by the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Robert M. Gates
Robert M. Gates, 90, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility after an extended illness.
Mr. Gates was born May 14, 1910 in Sault St. Marie, the son of Versele and Myrtle (Barber) Gates, and had been a Charlotte resident for over 60 years. HE was married to Catherine Ann (Storr) Gates on Nov. 9, 1940 in Charlotte, and was employed as a bookkeeper for Mill Supplies Corporation in Lansing. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Knights Templar.
Surviving are one son, Roger Gates of Charlotte; two grandsons, Michael Gates and David “Todd” Gates, both of Lansing; and a brother, Marshall McKee of Kalkaska.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Gates on May 21, 1982; and his wife, Catherine on July 14, 1996.
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services were held Dec. 18 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Todd George
Todd Clell George, 39, of Hastings died April 8, 2000 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
Mr. George was born Aug. 27, 1960, in Battle Creek, the son of David and Carolyn (Rundle) George. He was raised in the East Leroy area and attended Lakeview, Harper Creek and Hastings schools, graduating in 1978 from Hastings High School. His family moved to the Hastings area in 1971. He married Patricia Hallock June 26, 1988. He had been employed as store security for the former Big Wheel in Hastings and Brinks Armored Services of Grand Rapids, as Hastings City Police Reserve officer with the Hastings Ambulance Service, a six-year attendant at Thornapple Manor, and had been in well drilling the past two years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking and small-engine repair. He loved animals and working with the elderly and was a citizens band radio enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Stephen and Douglas, both of Hastings; his parents, Carolyn and David George of Hastings; one brother, Jace (Linda) of Hastings; and nephews and nieces including Zachary and Christopher George.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Services were April 11 at the Wren Funeral Home, Hasting, with the Rev. Alvin Yates officiating. Interment was in the Olivet Cemetery, Olivet.

Emilie B. Gilbert
Emilie B. Gilbert, 97, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000 at the Golden Days Adult Foster Care Home after an extended illness.
She was born in Ypsilanti, the daughter of A. George and Minnie (Scott) Gilbert and had been a Charlotte resident since 1904. She was a retired bookkeeper, having worked for the Charlotte Chair Co., Spencer Hardware and Munger Hardware. She was a graduate of Charlotte High School and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Emma Gilbert of Charlotte; and, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 29 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or Youth Haven Ranch.

Betty Gillaspie
Betty Joy Gillaspie, 54, of Vermontville, died April 4, 2000 at her home.
Ms. Gillaspie was born March 18, 1946 in Sunfield, the daughter of Bud and Bea (Ball) Gillaspie. She graduated from Lakewood High School and was an upholsterer for Charlotte Chair Factory for 29 years. She was a member of the Vermontville Bible Church and enjoyed plastic canvas crafting and painting classes.
She is survived by her parents, Bud and Bea Gillaspie of Vermontville; three brothers, Bruce (Margaret Ann) Gillaspie of Lafayette, La., Bernie Gillaspie of Raleigh, N.C., and Bradley (Barbara) Gillaspie of Gays Mill, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services were April 6 at Vermontville Bible Church, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Arrangements were made by the Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville.

Beulah Gilman
Beulah Viola Gilman, 90, of Charlotte, died Jan. 20, 2000.
Mrs. Gilman was born Oct. 7, 1909 in Eaton County, the daughter of Claude and Daisey (Lafler) Haines. She had been an assembly worker for Wilcox-Gay Corporation, Charlotte. She and her husband, Ray, spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Fla., and built many lasting friendships there. She enjoyed doing crafts, loved fishing, and was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge #68. She also enjoyed the role of “Grandma” to her younger nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nephews.
She is survived by two brothers, Dwight “Pete” (Barbara) Haines of Charlotte and Merle (Phyllis) Haines of Winter Haven, Fla.; five nephews, William Haines of Holt, Merle “Brad” Haines of Marshall, Mark Haines of Orkdal, Norway, John Haines of Hastings, and Peter Haines of Gowen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1984.
Services were Jan. 24 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Skylar Goddard
Skylar David-Douglas Goddard, three weeks old, of Charlotte died Sept. 7, 2000.
Skylar was born Aug. 17, 2000 in Detroit, the son of Scott and Shelby Goddard.
He is survived by his parents; one brother, Dylan Zopf; his grandparents, Douglas (Diane Grinnell) Crowe of Delta Twp., Lynn and Karen Forell of Charlotte and David and Linda Goddard of Twinning; his great-grandparents, Patricia Crowe of Grand Ledge, Gladys Castle of Flint, Ruth Goddard of Flint; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services were Sept. 9 at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
