Ernestine (Supp) Miller
Ernestine Audrey (Supp) Miller, 91 of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Charlotte, died Jan. 14, 2000.
Mrs. Miller was born Jan. 8, 1909 in Holland, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Smith) Windeknecht. She opened the first Montgomery Ward’s office in Charlotte, and was later employed as a secretary to Dr. Daniel Carothers in Charlotte for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn; one daughter, Betty (Floyd “Bud”) Wainwright of Charlotte; one son, Robert (Sharon) Kulfan of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services were Jan. 18 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Geneva Miller
Geneva Miller, age 76 of Springport, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 20, 2000 at her residence. Geneva was born January 9, 1924in Jackson, KY, the daughter of James Monroe and Elizabeth (Hale) Caudill. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church (formerly the Southern United Baptist Church) in Albion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlow in 1985.
Surviving are her 3 daughters, Josephine (Charles) Arrington of Bardwell, KY, Bette Johnson of Springport, Gayenell Miller of Arlington, KY; 3 sons, Glenn (Nell) Miller of Eaton Rapids, Claude Miller of Allen, Harlin (Linda) of Hillsdale; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. James Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at the Springport Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Hartland Hospice, 700 W. Ash, Mason, MI 48854 in memory of Geneva Miller.
Howard Miller
Howard Eugene Miller, 87, of Convis Township, died Feb. 19, 2000 at home.
Mr. Miller was born Feb. 3, 1913, the son of Eugene and Edna (Turner) Miller in Eaton Rapids. He graduated from Fremont (Ind.) High School and had worked as an assistant warehouse foreman at Sears from 1947 until he retired in 1975. He married Lily Bell Wygang July 12, 1937 in Fremont. He raised Shetland ponies and entered them in pony-pulling contests. He was a member of the Michigan Motor Home Owners Club and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling. He spent winters in Sun City, Ariz. from 1975-97.
He is survived by his wife, Lily; one son, Neil Miller of Crystal; grandchildren, Rick Miller and Terry (Ralph) Murphy, both of Toledo, Steven (Katie) Miller, both of Jackson and Brad Treat of Lansing; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alan Murphy, both of Toledo; and two sisters, Genevieve Robinson of Harrison, and Mildred Radee of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther White, Clara Landis and Ruth Miller; and three brothers, Fred, Charles, and Dudley Miller.
Services were Feb. 22 at the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor George Fleming officiating. Internment was in the Assyria Cemetery.

Theron Nash
Theron A. Nash, 64, of Lake, formerly of Charlotte, died Jan. 26, 2000 after an extended illness.
Mr. Nash was born in Charlotte, the son of Boyd and Ida (Smith) Nash and had resided at Lake for 14 years. He was a 1953 graduate of Charlotte High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He had been employed by Fisher Body Division of General Motors Corporation, Lansing, retiring in 1984 after 30 years of service.
He is survived by one daughter, Vickie (Terry) Griffin of Glen Allen, Va.; one son, Wayne (Julie) of Commerce Township; one grandson, Travis Griffin; one sister, Carol Nash of Tustin, Calif.; and two brothers, Lowel (Patricia) of Lansing and Loy (Veronica) of Charlotte.
Services were Jan. 29 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating.

Ruth F. Naylor
Ruth F. Naylor, age 88, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 in Grayling. Ruth was born June 6, 1912 in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Frank and Flora (Coy) Gunnell. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. Ruth helped her husband, Frank, on the farm and he preceded her in death as did also her son-in-law, Larry Herrick and great-grandson, Dekota Rowley.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Duke) Lamotte of Grayling; 2 sons, Reese Naylor and friend Anne Wamsley of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and Keith (Diana) Naylor of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Ron Naylor, Cindy (Dennis) Hasenick, John Herrick, Kim Reynolds, Curt (Kris) Lamotte, Mike (Amber) Wakley, Tammy (Paul) Rowley, Kim Wakley, Mike Naylor, Stacey (Jim) Clickner and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, 11 a.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Americare Hospice, Grayling in memory of Ruth Naylor.
Earlin H. Nettleton
Earlin H. Nettleton of DeWitt, age 74, died April 15, 2000. He was born June 22, 1925 in Gladwin. Mr. Nettleton retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Marian Mae; 3 daughters, Judith (Lon) Curtis of Eaton Rapids, Pamela (Michael) Beach of DeWitt and Cindy Jo (Brian) Fry of St. Johns; 2 sons, Keith of Lansing and Steven of DeWitt; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, George (Pat) Nettleton of Gladwin; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2 p.m., at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt, with the Rev. Tad Jameson, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Jackie N. Norris
Jackie Naomi Norris, 48, of Mulliken, died at home with her family at her bedside, Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000.
Mrs. Norris was born Feb. 7, 1952 in Lansing, the daughter of Jack and Naomi (Monroe) Sims. She worked as a document processor for MESSA Insurance Company. A former member of the Michigan Fiddlers Association, Mrs. Norris enjoyed playing the fiddle, drawing and carving wood.
Surviving are her husband, Phillip; mother, Naomi Sims of Vermontville; sisters, Barbara (Leon) Norris of Grand Ledge; father-in-law, Wilford Norris; and eight nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack in 1997.
Funeral services were held Oct. 31 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Richard Garn officiating. Internment was at Sunfield Township Cemetery, Sunfield.

Marie Northrup
Marie A. Northrup, 83, of St. Johns died June 16, 2000.
Mrs. Northrup was born in Olive Township May 19, 1917, the daughter of Ben and Sybil (Boron) Gillison. She had lived her entire life in Clinton County. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar Society, the Farm Bureau, and Clinton County Extension. She was a former 4-H leader and a 1935 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, St. Johns. She married Harry Northrup in Holt on March 9, 1940.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Harold) Goelz of Charlotte and Eileen (David) Church of Dewitt six grandchildren, Ann (Rich) Lown, Dawn Webb and Cara (Scott) Courser, all of Charlotte, Troy Church of Plainfield, Ill., Ronald Goelz of Montrose, Colo., and Jeffrey (Kristin) Church of Lansing; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys (Raymond Mayers of St. Johns) and Darthea (Paul) Hartgerink of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nov. 4, 1996, and one daughter, Jean Ann.
Mass was June 21 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns with Fr. Joseph Mundandan officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Hazel A. Norton
Hazel Addriett Norton, 76, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000.
Mrs. Norton was born Dec. 12, 1923 in Dowling, the daughter of Glenn and Mary (Beach) Rowden.
Surviving are her husband, Leo of Charlotte; daughter, Addriett (James) Balgoyen of Charlotte; sons, Kendric (Julie) Norton of Bellevue and Greg (Sue) Norton of Charlotte; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery, Carmel Twp.

Jim H. “Smiley” Pierce
Jim H. “Smiley” Pierce, age 56, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at his residence. Jim was born February 27, 1944 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Daniel Henry and Grace (Harrison) Pierce. He was a partner with his father and brother in a large family farming operation in Hamlin Twp. For many years. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the CB’s in Vietnam and was later a member of the Onondaga VFW Post #6986. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Hamlin Twp. Fire Dept. and a former Hamlin Twp. Trustee. Above all, he was a devoted Michigan Fan. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Daniel in 1991.
Surviving are his mother, Grace Pierce of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Robert D. (Marsha) Pierce of Morenci, John D. Pierce of Lansing; niece, Amanda Pierce; 2 nephews, Bill (Susan) Pierce, Jim (Mimi) Pierce; 4 grand nephews, Cody, Travis, Jerimiah and Wesley.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, 2000 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Internment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Ira L. “Bud” Pifer
Ira LaVern “Bud” Pifer, 66, of Foley, Ala., formerly of Eaton County, died Sept. 14, 2000.
Mr. Pifer was a graduate of Lansing Sexton High School and worked for ATL Truck Lines in both Lansing and Jackson before retiring 15 years ago. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years in both Lansing and Vermontville.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Loretta (Shilling); three daughters, Gail (David) Allen of Charlotte, Cindy (Ron) Hughes of Indiana and Sandy Weaver of Texas; one son, Randy (Diane) of Vermontville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Celora “Tootie” (Myron) Shilling of Charlotte; and one brother, Larry (Paul) of Delton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Leslie Pifer and one sister, Anita Rodebaugh.
Cremation has taken place in Alabama.
