Saide “Cy” Abdo
Saide “Cy” Abdo, 63, of Dimondale, died Nov. 26, 2005.
Cy was born July 15, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. He was devoted not only to his family, but also to his country. He was a man of integrity and honor who worked hard his entire life. Cy was a graduate of Northwood University, worked for the Lansing Police Department for eight years, and retired from Lansing Community College public safety as director. He served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine for seven years and was also a Vietnam veteran. Cy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and actively involved with American Legion Post 238. He was recently elected to the Eaton County Board of Commissioners.
He is survived by his wife of 334 years, Carol; son, Jameel; daughter, Alys (nee, Abdo) Long; two granddaughters, Brennan and Bailey Long; identical twin brothers, Mahammaed “Butch” Abdo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment followed in Dimondale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice or the American Heart Association.
Dale W. Ackerson
Dale W. Ackerson, 78, of Mulliken, died Saturday evening, Feb. 26, 2005 at a Lansing hospital.
Mr. Ackerson was born July 26, 1926 in Vermontville, a son of Earl R. and Grace V. (Shaw) Ackerson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Diamond Reo and Atlas Drop Forge in Lansing. Following retirement, he worked with his son in Ackerson & Son Excavating. Mr. Ackerson enjoyed fishing and his Navy ship reunions.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin, and brothers, Kenneth, Keith and Donald, his twin.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Eleanore; three sons, Kim (JoAnn) Ackerson, Kurt (Barb) Ackerson and Kris (Tracy) Ackerson; his daughter, Karen Ackerson; nine grandchildren, Andrea, Arica, Angela, Alyssa, Thomas, Tiffani, Joshua, Morgan and McKenzie; sister, Cindy (Robert) Canfield of Ionia; three brothers, Allyn “Jay” Ackerson of Vermontville, Robert (Bea) Ackerson of Bayonet Point, Fla., and Bruce (Marcia) Ackerson of Portland; numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog, “Buster”.
Services were held March 2 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Milliken, with Pastor Judy Scholten officiating. Military honors were given at Meadowbrook Cemetery by Portland VFW Post 4090. Pallbearers were Dennis, Mark and Ronald Ackerson, Larry Bishop, Terry Canfield and Jessie McCoy. Honorary bearers were Gary Pung, Tim Skinner and Jim Wieber.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mulliken United Methodist Church or Portland VFW Post 4090.
Mary Adams
Mary Gore Adams, 81, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 surrounded by family.
Mary was born Oct. 11, 1923, the daughter of Philip and Rita Gore of Webster Groves, Mo. Her family moved to Michigan briefly where she met William Adams, whom she married March 9, 1946, her husband of 57 years. After William served in the Army in World War II, they became longtime residents of Royal Oak and Rochester Hills. She was a devoted wife and loving mother of three children, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak for 40 years. Mary enjoyed playing the piano, reading, gardening and the company of good friends. She will be missed for her kind spirit and love for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn (Brent) Wilcox of Brown City; sons, William Milton (Patricia) Adams Jr. of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Matthew Gore (Pamela) Adams of Bowling Green, Ky.; and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Jacqueline, Patrick, Turner and Hayden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Milton Adams, in 2003.
Graveside services were held Aug. 27 at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Michael Aitken
Michael T. “Mike” Aitken, died Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the age of 63. Born July 20, 1914 in Lansing. He was the son of H.P. “Pat” and “Jean” Aitken. Mike was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School class of 1959 and a long time resident of Eaton Rapids. He attended Michigan State University and worked at the Lansing Post Office. Mike was the past president of the “River City Rats” and published the “River City Vietnam Newsletter”. He was known for his imaginative and humorous writing style along with keeping in touch with the men in combat.
Survivors include: two brothers, James of Remus and Bob of Channing; one sister, Pat Banfield of St. Petersburg, Fla., along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mike will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Wesley A. Allen
Wesley A. Allen, age 69, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, August 12, 2005 in Eaton Rapids. Wesley was born February 10, 1936 in Lansing, the son of Theodore Max and Esther Irene (Laycock) Allen. He was a member of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church, a veteran of the US Army (serving in Korea), and retired from the City of Lansing in 1995 after 27 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Allen, in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Renee (Greg) Ramey of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, Kirk (Jill) Allen of Eaton Rapids and Kevin (Sherrel) Crawley of Davison; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Theron (Mary) Allen of White Cloud and Doug Allen of Spring Arbor; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at the Wesleyan Church, 6044 S. Clinton Trail, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make memorial contributions directed to his family in memory of Wesley Allen. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
Clara Anderson
Clara Lambert Anderson, formerly of Kingsport, Tenn., died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005.
She is survived by: a daughter, Judi (Jim) Herbert of Lansing; two grandchildren, Melissa Herbert of Jackson and Scott (Mary Ellen) Herbert of Texas; three great grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica and Kyle; and a sister, Ruby Lambert of Kingsport, Tenn. Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tenn., with a memorial service at Burcham Hills planned for a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Charles F. Andler
Charles F. Andler of Flint, age 56, died suddenly on Saturday, October 29, 2005. Chuck was born on June 12, 1949 and grew up in Eaton Rapids. Chuck graduated from Eaton Rapids High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He was a Second Vice President of Investments/Financial Planning Specialist with Smith Barney for over 15 years. Chuck was preceded in death by his father Chris Andler, sister, Barbara Andler and grandmother, Laura McNett.
Chuck is survived by his mother Beatrice Andler, daughters Angela Mitchell and Emily Gondek, grandsons Daniel and Peter Mitchell, and brothers, Phil and Herbert Andler.
Viewing will be at Swartz Funeral Home is Flint on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 and Wednesday, November 2. Services will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids on Thursday, November 3, at 11:00 a.m.
Vernerd C. Andrews
Vernerd C. “Bill” Andrews, 58, of Dimondale, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005.
A true Michigan State University Spartan fan, his goodness, warmth and fun-loving personality touched and brought enjoyment to those he encountered on his active life’s journey. He will be remembered and missed by many.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, Vernerd F. and Leta A. Andrews.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Pat; daughter, Andrea, and granddaughter, Raven, who were the lights of his life; brothers, Don (Natalie) Andrews and Michael (Lois) Flynn, both of Charlotte; sister, Alice “Terri” Boyd of Dimondale; and his “son for a year”, Espen Parmann of Norway.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated Sept. 23 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlotte.

Raymond Archer
Raymond Archer, 77, of Irving, Texas formerly of Charlotte, died Monday Oct. 10, 2005. Mr. Archer was born Jan. 8, 1928 in Lansing, the son of Lee and Cora Archer.
Mr. Archer was a Charlotte High School graduate and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in landscaping. He was a retired truck driver.
Surviving are his sister, Joyce Tower; son, Paul Archer; daughters, Kathy Martin and Cheryl Howe; and grandchildren Chad Richardson, Aimee Richardson, Kaitlyn Martin and Mari Howe.
Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
