Volney M. Arnold
Volney M. Arnold, 93, of Franklin, N.C., formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 in Franklin, N.C.
Volney was born April 24, 1912 in Ionia, the son of Melvin Eugene and Flora Leora (Hulliburger) Arnold. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club and Community Hospital building committee. He was the owner and operator of Arnold & Becklund IGA in Eaton Rapids. Volney retired from Capitol Business Service in 1977 and was past president of the Board of Directors of Ovenfresh Bakeries in Grand Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora.
Surviving are children, Judy and Gary Davis of Franklin, N.C. and Jill and Terry Clone of Fishers, Ind.; four grandchildren, Lori (Brian) Robinson of Georgia, Lisa Rehkopf of North Carolina, Greg (Lori) Clone of Moreland, Ind., Jon (Marcy) Clone of Fishers, Ind.; 11 great grandchildren, Megan and Michael Robinson, Kyle, Lance and Abby Rehkopf, Bobby and Timmy Clone, Drew and Eric Teague, Abigail and Victoria Clone. Funeral services were held Nov. 10 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery.

Winonah I. Arnold
Winonah Inez Arnold, 69, of Bellevue, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005.
Mrs. Arnold was born Jan. 15, 1936, the daughter of the late Glen Shipman and the late Leontina (Grossman) Shipman. Winonah enjoyed crochet and traveling, and her grandkids were the apple of her eye.
She is survived by her companion, Barry Hoyt; two daughters, Barbara (Chuck) Griswold Bingham of Bellevue, Bonnie (Michael) Griswold Kelly of California; four grandchildren; two sisters, Gwen (Allan) Newberry of Bellevue, and Beverly (Dale) Kucera of Colorado; and a brother, Orville (Winell) Shipman of Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percival “Red” Arnold; sister, Dorothy Bowling; and brothers, Stan, Virgil, Keith and Vernon Shipman.
A Family Affirmation Service was held Jan. 24 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at Clarence Center Cemetery.

Vera Auzins
Vera Auzins, 95, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005.
Mrs. Auzins was born in Riga, Latvia, the daughter of Karlis and Anna (Polis) Rechtsprechers. She was a member of the Latvian Imeria Sorority and immigrated to the United States in June of 1950 from Europe.
She is survived by daughter, Ieva (Douglas) Inglis of Charlotte; son, John (Daine) Auzins of Kokomo, Ind.; grandsons, Erik (Amy) Auzins, Kurt (Mary) Auzins, Normund (Bonnie) Auzins, Alex (Debra) Privert, Thomas (Rachell) Inglis; and great grandson, Nicholas Privert.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Peter Privert, in 1992. Family graveside services were held.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Brian W. Babcock
Brian W. Babcock, age 56, of Lansing died Sunday, April 10, 2005. He was born August 5, 1949, the son of Walter and Vivan (Carter) Babcock. Brian served in the Army during the Viet Nam War and was currently employed with Michigan State University, serving 30 years working at the Kellogg Center.
Surviving are 2 sons, David (Jennifer) Babcock of Lansing and John (Elena) Babcock of Chicago; 2 grandchildren, Hunter and Zoe; mother, Vivian of Charlotte; 3 brothers, John, Harry (Laura) and Bryon; sister, Debbie (Kevin) Spitzley; several nieces and nephews; loving partner Elizabeth Crampton and former wife, Joyce Torres.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery with military honors being provided by the American Legion Post #15. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dr. Cynthia Pastor Baker
Dr. Cynthia Pastor Baker, 58, died July 15, 2005 in Cebu City, Philippines, following a short illness.
Mrs. Baker was born July 31, 1947 in Cebu City, Philippines, the daughter of Florentino and Primativa (Bacayo) Pastor. She taught Spanish at Okemos High School until her retirement in 2002. She then moved to the Philippines with her husband, Dale Baker Sr., and continued teaching at Mater Dei College, Tubigon Bohol. She was most proud of her ability to help students learn and improve themselves.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Dale Baker Sr. of Charlotte; her son Dale (Sherlyn) Baker Jr. of California; grandson, Jackson Baker, sister, Violeta Santos of Cebu City, Philippines; brother, Florentino Pastor Jr. and his wife, Delia, and their children Joanna and Trisha, of Davao, Philippines; sister, Wilma Santos and her husband, Boy, and their children, Sherry, Russel, Monica, Michael and Gerard, of San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines; nephew, Pat Fuentes and his wife, Josie and their children Eric, and Jackie; great uncle, Dr. Pedro Pastor and his wife, Vering, of South Cotabato, Philippines; great uncle Pastor of Manila, Philippines; and many other relatives, friends and college colleagues in the Philippines.
Funeral service was held July 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rick Martin officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Lillian L. Baldwin
Lillian Lucille Baldwin, 60, of Lansing, died Sept. 7, 2005.
Mrs. Baldwin was born Dec. 9, 1944 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Carl and Madonna Davis. She provided loving care as a nurse’s aide for more than 35 years.
She is survived by son, Rick Baldwin of Charlotte; daughter, Tonda Roberts; brother, Larry (Lois) Davis of Grayling; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; and friend, Fred Rodriguez.
Graveside service was held Sept. 12 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Alfa L. Ball
Alfa L. (Frost) Ball, 93, of Brookfield Twp., Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.
Mrs. Ball was born Nov. 21, 1911 in Charlotte, the daughter of Jason and Rena (Lown) Frost and lived most of her life in the Brookfield Twp/Eaton County area. She was a 1930 graduate of Charlotte High School, a member of Brookfield United Methodist Church and Brookfield Order of Eastern Star 352. She was employed at Eaton Stamping Co. in Eaton Rapids.
Surviving is: two sons, Phillip (Dana) Ball of Eaton Rapids and Ronald (Barbara) Ball of Gladstone; daughter-in-law, Loretta Ball of Charlotte; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Mertie Frost of Grand Ledge.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ball, in 1940; husband, Seward Ball, in 1991; son, Harwood Ball, in 1993; grandson, Michael Ball, in 1958; and a brother, Maynard Frost, in 1968.
Funeral services were held July 2 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte; with Pastor Irene Vittoz of Brookfield United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Twp.

Gary N. Ball
Gary N. Ball, age 67, of South Boardman, formerly of Haslett, died Dec. 24, 2005 in Traverse City. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10 at1:30 p.m. at the Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Arrangements by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Kevin Barbour
Kevin Barbour, 48, died July 13. There will be a short burial service for family and close friends at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte Aug. 6 to lay to rest Kevin and his father, Hubert Barbour, who died on May 20. There has been a tentative time set for 11 a.m. Please call Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte to confirm time next week.
