Dorothy Elizabeth Bovee
Dorothy Elizabeth Bovee, age 80 years, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005 in Dimondale. Dorothy was born September 4, 1924 in Anderson, IN, the daughter of Paul and Dorothy (Lucas) Hoard, Sr. A faithful member of St. Peter church in Eaton Rapids, Dorothy also spent her life devoted to her two husbands, Don and Jacques, and raising her 8 children. She was a registered nurse, a member of the Eaton Rapids Library Board and the Eaton Rapids Hospital Auxiliary. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Rex Mohr in 1969, second husband, Jacques Bovee in 1976, son-in-law, Kenneth McCaleb in 2004 and sister, Virginia May.
Dorothy is survived by 8 children, Jo (Phil) Vanderkarr of Kalkaska, Michael (Su) Mohr of Austin, TX, Dorothy McCaleb of Cookville, TN, Margaret “Peg” (Donald) Kowalk of Eaton Rapids, Patricia (Steve) Rojas of Lansing, Maureen “Mo” (Mike) Bivens of Battle Creek, Patrick (Amy) Mohr of Door and Donald (Amy) Mohr of Wayland; 26 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 1 brother, Paul (Virginia) Hoard Jr. of Jackson; 1 sister, Louis (Robert) Duhan of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Resurrection was prayed on Friday, January 7, 2005 at St. Peter Church, Eaton Rapids, with Father Bennett Constantine as Celebrant. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Dimondale Center Recreation Dept. or Island View Adult Foster Care in memory of Dorothy Bovee. Arrangements are by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Charles P. Bowerman
Charles P. Bowerman, 51, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005.
Mr. Bowerman was born Dec. 26, 1953, in Lansing, the son of Weldon and Margaret (Draper) Bowerman. Charles was a Charlotte postal carrier, past commander of American Legion Post 42 of Charlotte, was a current member of Vermontville American Legion Post 222 and 40&8 Voiture 946 in Lansing. Charles enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the NRA and the Eaton County Buck Club.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie; son, Michael Phillip of Charlotte; daughter, Carrie Belle (Steve) Crigier of Newberry; parents, Weldon and Margaret Bowerman and Stacey Lynne Bowerman of Potterville; mother-in-law, Frances Vandlen of Charlotte; sister, Pamala Bannick of Jenison; brother, William D. Bowerman; half-brothers, Vernon R. Bowerman and Jerry Bowerman; half-sisters, Debra Sanders and Lucille Hargrave; brothers-in-law, Merwin (Pam) and Dan (Sandy) Vandlen; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Gary) White; godson, Dale Allen White; 12 nieces and nephews and two great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at First Baptist Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill cemetery in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Donald Boyer
Donald Boyer, 78, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Bellevue, died Oct. 16, 2005 in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.
He was born Jan. 22, 1927 to Fred and Clara (Anderson) Boyer in Bellevue. During World War II Donald served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for more than 27 years as a meat cutter for A& P Grocery Store. Donald enjoyed all sports and just recently began playing golf.
Donald married Eileen Evensen Jan. 19, 1946; she survives. Also surviving are sons, Ronald Boyer of San Francisco, Calif., Edward Boyer of Lakeland, Fla., Robert Boyer of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Donna Hartson of Sterling Heights, Lisa Bloom of Belleview, Fla., Cynthia Sherrill of Summerfield, Fla., Debra Grillo of Fishers, Ind.; 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Boyer of Bellevue.
Services were held Oct. 21 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Rev. Fr. William Koenigsknecht officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church and Alzheimer’s Association.
Daniel L. Bracy
Daniel Leon Bracy, 50, of Bellevue, died Friday, April 15, 2005. Mr. Bracy was born June 18, 1954 in Battle Creek, the son of Leslie Junior and Dorothy Anne (Fleming) Bracy. He was a tool and die maker for 29 years for Progressive Dynamics in Marshall. He enjoyed fishing, movies, travel and family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” (Daly); son, Jerry (Jodi) Bracy of Charlotte; daughters, Laura Bracy of Bellevue and Carrie Dale of Bellevue; mother, Dorothy Fuller of Nashville; grandchildren, Brooke, Kirsten, Olivia, Chayne and Dalton; sisters, Margaret (Tom) Andreas of Olivet and Virginia Barrett of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his father, Junior Bracy, in 1983. Funeral services were held April 19 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Battle Creek Health System Cancer Care Unit.
Joy Bradley
Joy Bradley, 83 of Spring Hill, Fla., died Aug. 16, 2005 at home. She was born in Battle Creek and moved to Florida 43 years ago from Bellevue.
Joy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Carleton (Milt) Bradley.
She remained a loving and giving mother to the end to her two daughters, Gay (Arthur) Cash of Dunwoody, Ga. And Glee (Craig) Gates of Spring Hill, Fla. Other survivors include granddaughters Marla (Giuseppe) Prestigiacomo and Mandy (Kenneth) McMullin; great grandchildren, Margherita, Savannah, Paolo, Francesca and Antonio, all of Spring Hill; her sister, Edith Walsh of Battle Creek and several nieces and nephews.
Joy was an auxiliary member to VFW Post 8681 and she held several offices including Worthy Matron in the Olivet Order of the Eastern Star. What she gave of herself to her family is priceless and the loss of her in our daily lives is immeasurable.

A private burial at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue will take place at a later date.
The family is being served locally by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Russell W. Bradley
Russell Wayne Bradley, 83, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005.
Mr. Bradley was born April 14, 1922 in Chester Township, the son of the late Frank Bradley and the late Carrie (Whelan) Bradley. As a senior at Charlotte High School, Russell earned the state champion title in both cross-country and the mile run. He was a local farmer and also worked for Wilcox-Gay in charlotte. He continued farming until his passing, and had been a school board member for the old Quantrell School. His hobbies included bird watching, photography and woodworking. He particularly enjoyed the many family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Schunemann) Bradley; daughters, Linda (Ray) Peterson, Sharon (John) Franks; sons, Dale (Jane) Bradley, Ivan (Beverly) Bradley; daughter, Connie (John) Bobcik; sons, Glen (Judy) Bradley, Roger (Lynda) Bradley; 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great grandsons; three sisters, Ruth Wright, Doris Kent and Esther Friel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur, Paul and Elmer Bradley; and sister, Frances Canfield.
Funeral service was held May 14 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
M. Jean Brand
M. Jean Brand passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005.
Jean was born Dec. 16, 1932 in Akron, Ohio. During her life, she served in the U.S. Navy and worked many years as an executive secretary in Lansing’s State Capital. In 1978 she moved from Lansing to Huntington Beach, Calif., where she resided until 2001 when she returned to Michigan to live near family.
Jean is survived by three children, Cheryl Brand of Lansing, Tari Brand of Santa Ana, Calif., and Jeff (Tammie) Brand of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Addy and Madeline Brand-Rabinovitch, and Gina, John and Jeremy Brand; one brother, Richard (Betsy) Florence of Arizona; and one sister, Judy (Steve) Dobos of Florida.
Cremation has taken place. A luncheon memorial celebrating her life will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at 5397 Packard Hwy, Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
James E. Briggs
James Elwin Briggs, 71, of Ionia, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005.
Mr. Briggs was born Dec. 5, 1933 in Charlotte, the son of Nyle and Ethelwyn (Ives) Briggs. He formerly owned Briggs Electric in Ionia until the early ‘70s. He was then employed at the Lansing State Journal for more than 20 years as a master electrician. In his spare time he enjoyed model trains, woodworking and boating.
He is survived by sons, Rodney (Ronda), Bradley (Gailene), Dennis (Vicki), and Scott (Michelle) Briggs, all of Ionia; daughters, Teressa Briggs and Chris (Kim) Rowley of Ionia and Karen (Rich) Taylor of Byron Center; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brothers, William (Judy) of Battle Creek and Joseph (Connie) of Charlotte; and a sister, Judy Hartgerink of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardyce, in 2002.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment was at Kalamo Cemetery.
