Neva I. Sackett
Neva I. Sackett, 87, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Mulliken, died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2005 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.
Mrs. Sackett was born June 23, 1917 in Roxand Township, a daughter of Charles and Edna Grace (Green) Bell. She was a life member and twice past matron of Mulliken OES Chapter 161.
Surviving are her daughter, Amanda (Bryce) MacDonald of Vermontville; two sons, Bill (Chris) Sackett of Byron Center and Bob (Sue) Sackett of Grand Ledge; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble, and her daughter, Vanya Ackerson.
Services were held March 11 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Rev. Alan Leach officiating. Interment was at Welch Cemetery. Eastern Star services were held March 10 at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Dennis Ackerson, Randy Hankins, Scott Hartman, Ken MacDonald, Tony Pruden, Ben Sackett, Cory Sackett, Tim Sackett and Tim Ware.
Mary M. Sandborn
Mary Mae (Goodrich) Sandborn, 79, of Sunfield, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in Ionia.
Mrs. Sandborn was born Feb. 25, 1926 in Roxand Twp., Eaton County, the daughter of Alfred T. and Oma M. (Holbrook) Goodrich. On Aug. 19, 1941 she married Howard Sandborn. Mary was a proud member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who loved working on family ancestry and working on crafts. She enjoyed going with her husband to his military reunions. Her hobbies were quilting, crocheting and sewing things for her grandchildren, traveling, playing cards with her card club and going to the casino. She also made quilts and donated them to cancer victims.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband in April 2003; granddaughter, Kassandra Sandborn; both her parents; her brother, Byron Goodrich; and sister, Loretta Peabody.
Surviving are her three sons, William (Arlene) of Lake Odessa, Robert, and Ed (Evelyn) of Sunfield; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sister, Orpha (Ted) Stiffler of Mulliken; two brothers, Stan Goodrich of Missouri and Alfred (Virginia) Goodrich of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held April 22 at Sunfield United Methodist Church. Interment was at East Sebewa Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Heartlands Nursing Home, C/O RFH, P.O. Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890. The family expressed appreciation for all who visited Mary and sent her cards and flowers. Arrangements were by Rosier Funeral Home in Sunfield.
Marilyn Sanders
Marilyn Sue Sanders, 63, of Grand Ledge, died Sept. 7, 2005. Mrs. Sanders was born July 6, 1942, in Pikeville, KY, the daughter of George and Nellie Lyons.
She is survived by sons, Michael Sanders of Grand Ledge, and Stephen (Angela) Sanders of Mason; granddaughter Emily Rae Sanders; sisters Theresa (Dale) Osborne of Georgetown, KY, Anita Justice of Georgetown, KY, brother Bennett (Marie) Lyons of Beckley, W.VA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Reed Sanders in 1997 and sister, Alberta Pleasant of Shelbyanna, KY.
Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a graveside service Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Benton Township Cemetery.
Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Virginia Ann Sanders
Virginia Ann Sanders, age 69, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 in Charlotte. Virginia was born June 1, 1935 in Leslie, MI. She was a member of the Brookfield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl E. Beers and sister, Norma Canfield.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” C. Sanders of Eaton Rapids; 2 daughter, Sheryl “Shey” (Steve) Zenker of Eaton Rapids, Pamela Tigner of Laurel, MT; son, Kevin Sanders of Kokomo, IN; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; mother, Dorothy Fisher of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Carl (Honda) Beers of Leslie, Norman (Marilyn) Beers of Mason; brother-in0law, Wilford John Canfield of Eaton Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:0 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Virginia Sanders.
Sharon Lee (Baldwin) Satterlee
Sharon Lee (Baldwin) Satterlee, age 66, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at home with family and Hospice of Jackson County. Sharon was born February 12, 1939 in Onondaga, the daughter of Burton Jay and Erma Winifred (Bush) Baldwin. She lived a majority of her life in the Eaton Rapids area, working for Green Bay Foods until it closed. She lived the last ten years in Mesick, MI where she worked for AM Vets Post #120 and cared for her daughter. Sharon enjoyed traveling and working. She also loved spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her daughter, Ruth (Mike) Case of Springport; 3 sons, Scott (Lynn) Satterlee of Carlton, Brian Satterlee of Mason, Steven (Lynnette) Satterlee of Eaton Rapids; son-in-law, Robert Hurley of Mesick; 9 grandchildren, Casey Case, James Case, Josh and Nathaniel Satterlee, Kristina, Jessie Satterlee and Brian Satterlee Jr. Bobbie Sue Hurley, Audrey Ensley; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dutch (Dorothy) Baldwin of Holt, Butch (Eleanor) Baldwin of Kodak TN; 1 sister, Charlene Nowlin of Big Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Dr. Jesse James officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to Munson Medical Center in memory of Sharon.
Teresa Sayre
Teresa “Terry” Sayre, 76, of Charlotte, died Oct. 7, 205 at her home.
Mrs. Sayre was born Sept. 26, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of August and Teresa “Sally” Ricci. Terry was the founder of Reading is Fundamental in Eaton County, a member of the GFWC – Charlotte, the Book Club, the Eaton Area Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. Terry was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Michael; daughter and sons-in-law, Melissa Sayre and Douglas Fast of East Grand Rapids, Kristin and Bill Harper of College Station, Texas, and daughter Liza of Charlotte and her special friend Jim Tamarelli. She is also survived by her mother, Teresa “Sally” Ricci of Harper Woods; brother, Roger Ricci of Grosse Pointe Woods; and four grandchildren, Mason, Tessa and Conner Fast, and Lucy Harper.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Trish Michelle Sayre, in 1974.
A Memorial Communion Service was held Oct. 13 at St. Mary Catholic church. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Community Library or Reading is Fundamental of Eaton County. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Jody R. Scavarda
Jody R. Scavarda of Mason, age 38, died December 19, 2005. She was born June 24, 1967 in Evanston IL. Jody loved sporting events with her children, boating, camping, quilting and knitting. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Mason, and played Bunko monthly with her group of friends. She will be missed by anyone that knew her, but especially by her husband.
Surviving are her husband, Peter; 3 sons, Johnathon, Jacob and Justin; father, Thomas Callahan of Phoenix, AZ; mother, Samantha Sparks of Lansing; 2 sister, Cindy (Joseph) Vogelgesang of Kapolai, HI, and Shannon (Steven) Starkweather of Grand Ledge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, December 22, at St. James Catholic Church, 1010 S. Lansing Street, Mason, with the Rev. Alan J. Wakefield, Pastor and the Rev. Kenneth McDonald, officiating. The Rite of Committal followed at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing. Howard B. Schafer
Howard B. Schafer, age 78, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, May 30, 2005 in Lansing. Howard was born March 29, 1927 in Lansing, the son of George and Mona (Hastings) Schafer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and retired from the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation in 1984 after 27 years. Howard was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church of Eaton Rapids, past president of Eaton Rapids Lion’s Club and an avid sportsman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly E; 3 sons, Steven (Jody) Schafer of DeWitt, Douglas (Suzanne) Schafer of DeWitt and Jeffrey (Theresa) Schafer of Haslett; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, George Edward (Mary) Schafer of Indiana and Harold (Joann) Schafer of Gunn Lake & Florida; 2 sisters, Margaret “Alice” Lotoszinski and Ruth Marie (Glen) Beach, all of Lansing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. The family will received friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation in memory of Howard Schafer.
Elaine T. Scheidt
Elaine T. Scheidt, age 86, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, September 8, 2005. Elaine was born November 15, 1918 in Waterloo, Iowa. A resident of Eaton Rapids since 1971, she was an avid gardener and collector of antique buttons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody, and brother, John Daniel Wanamaker.
Elaine is survived by three children, James (Barbara) of Payson, AZ, Sally Churchill (Dennis) of Lansing and Susan (Jack) Backofen of Ottawa, KS (formerly of Eaton Rapids); 7 grandchildren, Jeff (Carrie) Scheidt, Jeannie (Mike) Hollebrandts, Catherine (Marc) Bedy, Christina (Robert) Wyrick, Jared (Melanie) Churchill, Jessica and Jason Backofen; 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Lansing (Sheila) Wanamaker.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Small Blessings Child Care at the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church or the Eaton Rapids Band Boosters in memory of Elaine Scheidt.
