Rod Getter
Rod Getter, age 45, of Howell, formerly of Eaton Rapids died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 in Ann Arbor. Rod was born June 22, 1960 in Jackson, MI. He enjoyed his family, photography, landscaping and home remodeling. Rod was previously employed with Atlas Drop Forge and currently with Sodexho Campus Services at the University of Detroit. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Robert Jr.
Rod is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Getter of Eaton Rapids; life partner, Charles B. Middaugh of Howell; father, Robert Getter of Eaton Rapids; mother, Beverly Klink of Rives Junction; 2 brothers, Ted (Nicky) Getter of Eaton Rapids, Scott (Lisa) Getter of Marshall; sister, Laura (Michael) De Long of Eaton Rapids; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 25, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Eloise I. Thompson Grant
Eloise I. Thompson Grant, 85, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005.
Mrs. Grant was born Dec. 7, 1919 in Vermontville, the daughter of Oscar and Ida Bell (Wells) Stevens and had been a lifelong resident of Eaton County. She had been employed at the former Wilcox-Gay Co. in Charlotte, at Fisher Body division of General Motors in Lansing for eight years, and at Aluminum Extrusions Co. in Charlotte for 13 years, from where she retired in 1979. She attended Chester Gospel Church.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Grant; one son, Robert (Emogene) Washburn of Sun City, Ariz.; three granddaughters, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Erma Maxine Beard of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle D. Thompson, in 1995; sisters, Marguerite Bunce, Doris Ranshaw and Hildred Bowser; and brothers, Murray Stevens, Merlin Stevens and Hubert Stevens.
Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Marc Livingston of Chester Gospel Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Deldee M. Grate
Deldee M. Grate, 97, of Charlotte, died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Mrs. Grate was born Jan. 28, 1908 in Lawton, the daughter of Mack and Alma (Palmanteer) Pearson. After her marriage to Willis Grate in 1934, which began a lifetime of 57 years together, the couple moved to Elkhart, Ind. where they ran an office supply store. In her 50s, she graduated with honors from Hinsdale School of Nursing, and worked as a licensed practical nurse in Elkhart until 1972 when she and her husband moved to Iron River. After her husband’s death in 1991 she moved to Charlotte to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church and especially enjoyed needlework, knitting and crafts.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Donald) Claussen of Sunfield; grandchildren, Cheryl Canada and Douglas Claussen; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Percy Pearson.
Funeral services were held April 20 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Lila Green
Lila E. Green, 86, of Vermontville, died Jan. 2, 2005.
Mrs. Green was born March 30, 1919 in Park Rapids, Minn., the daughter of James and Estella (Garbet) Flood. Lila was very proud of her family and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, bingo and the “Price is Right.” Lila also belonged to a garden club; she enjoyed working with flowers.
She is survived by: her daughter, Deborah (Jack) Zakora of Charlotte; son, Richard Green of Woodlawn; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Stanley Green, in 1975; daughter Laurie Hale in 1999; five brothers and three sisters. Gathering of family and friends was held Jan. 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Caryl Grier
Caryl Grier, 75, of Lansing, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2005.
Mrs. Grier was born April 2, 1930 in Lansing, the daughter of Roscoe and Agnas (Hinckley) Harte. Mrs. Grier was a secretary for the state of Michigan.
She is survived by her nephew Michael Grier of Charlotte and niece Sue Grier of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by husband Bruce Grier in 1991.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating.
Arrangements are by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Mae F. Gruber
Mae F. Gruber, age 100, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at her home in Hamlin Twp. Mae was born Jan. 7, 1905 in Postorna, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Joseph and Magdelan (Gajdos) Jankovic.
She attended St. Peter Catholic Church for 75 years, was the oldest member and was the first president of the Alter Society. Mae, her husband, James, and son, Jerry owned and operated Willowbrook Farms in Eaton Rapids and provided poultry, eggs and produce at the Lansing City Market for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1996; daughter, Stephanie Gruber; 3 grandsons, Michael, Steven and Paul Gruber; and 7 brothers & sisters.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Basil) Johnson of Grosse Pointe Farms; 2 sons, James (Bernice) Gruber, Jr. of Littleton, CO, Gerald Gruber of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial was prayed on Monday, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Eaton Rapids with Father Bennett Constantine as Celebrant. Interment followed at Brickyard Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. Peter School Fund or Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan (Hospice) in memory of Mae Gruber. Arrangements were made by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Robert L. Hackworth
Robert L. Hackworth, 63, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005.
Robert was born Nov. 5, 1941 in Floyd County, Ky., the son of John and Effie (Williams) Hackworth and had been an Eaton County resident for more than 40 years. He was a retired employee of charlotte Public Schools. In retirement, he was a distributor of baked goods in the area.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Hazel (Combs) Hackworth; two daughters, Brenda (David) Wolcott and Pamela Hackworth, both of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Heather and Shauwna Wolcott; one sister, Sharon (Pat) Collins of Potterville; and three brothers, Bob (Dee) Hackworth of Florida, Ray (Joan) Hackworth of Potterville and Adrian (June) Hackworth of South Dakota.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Janet Haff
Janet Mary Alice Lightner Haff, 91, of Charlotte, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005.
Mrs. Haff was born Dec. 31, 1913 in Sasketchewan, Canada, the daughter of John and Genevieve (MacGregor) Macdonald. Janet was one of the first Gray Ladies and later worked for Hayes Green Beach Hospital in housekeeping.
She is survived by daughters, Audrey (Bud) Ommen of Vermontville, Margaret (Roy) French of Charlotte and Linda White of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and half-sister, Betty Huska and Jean Harder of Canada.
She was preceded in death by Harry Lightner in 1976, Theodore Haff in 1973; sons, James Lightner in 2000 and Gary Lightner in 2003; brother, James MacAndrew; a half-sister, Mary; and a half-brother, Alan MacAndrew.
Funeral services were held Dec. 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. A VFW Auxiliary service was held Dec. 11.
Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Children’s Home or the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
