Vernie Edington
Vernie E. Edington, 98, of Potterville, died Thursday Aug. 4, 2005. Mrs. Edington was born Jan. 9, 1907, in Shiawassee County, the daughter of Frank and Mittie (Atkin) Conrad.
Vernie was active with the United Methodist Women’s group, belonged to the Eastern Star in Potterville and was A Meals on Wheels volunteer. Vernie also loved to travel and enjoyed different types of physical activity.
After 30 years of service she retired form Carl’s Supermarket in Potterville in 1983. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Smith of Potterville, son Clyde E. (Carol) Edington of Myrtle Beach, SC and sister Eilene Labadie of Bancroft, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Edington and son-in-law, Carl Smith Jr.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday Aug. 8 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will be at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday Aug. 7 at Pray Funeral Home.

Ryan J. Effner
Ryan (Bryan) James Effner, 40, died April 18, 2005 in Burbank, Calif.
Ryan was a gentle, old soul, seeking peace, truth and love in a world and business that were not always as positive and kind as he was. Ryan was a filmmaker, author and musician. He worked as a prop-maker, carpenter and construction coordinator on many movie sets.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Judith Franklin of Oregon; sisters, Judi (Bill) Dillinger of Charlotte, Lori (Rytis) Balciunas of Pennsylvania, and fiancée of Los Angeles, Calif.; nieces, Jessica Dillinger and Darius Balciunas.
He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Effner.
A private memorial service was held in Los Angeles.

Sandra E. Eggleston
Sandra Elizabeth Eggleston, infant daughter of Keith and heather (Collins) Eggleston of Charlotte, died Aug. 5, 2005 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
She is survived by her parents; her brother, Brandon; grandparents, Sandra and Billy Eggleston of Charlotte, Roger and Roxie Collins of Bellevue, and Jeri and Jim Atwell, also of Bellevue; and great grandparents, Don and Maxine Collins and Robert and Kathy Lambka of Olivet.
Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Ron Hutson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Erna M. Elias
Erna M. Elias, 77, of Charlotte, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the Eaton Community Hospice House.
Erna Elias was born in Little Rock, Ark. On May 9, 1927, the daughter of Edgar and Hazel Rambeau, and the stepdaughter of Herman Buckley. She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1945 and worked 20 years for the Eaton County Abstract Company. On March 25, 1967, Erna married Wallace Elias of Philadelphia, Pa. Together they ran their Watkins business in Charlotte for the past 30 years. Erna was a member of the Jackson Bible Students class.
Erna is survived by her husband, Wally; son Nathan W. and daughter-in-law AnnG (Lin Hutchins); three grandchildren, Andrew, Will and Dan; brother, Edgar Buckley and sister-in-law Marquetta; three nieces and one nephew.
Memorial service was held April 30 at Eaton Are Senior Center. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Ilene M. Ellison
Ilene M. Ellison, 69, of Saranac, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2005 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Ellison was born July 4, 1935 in Charlotte, the daughter of the late Vern and Golda (Wyrick) Sharp. She and her husband were owners/operators of a party store for many years and enjoyed helping people. She was a member of West Berlin Wesleyan Church, the Wesleyan Women and the Church Choir. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce (Mickie) Ellison Jr. of Belding, Brian (Michelle) Ellison of Lowell; daughter, Bonna Berge of Saranac; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bruce Ellison in 2004, and son-in-law Steve Berge.
Graveside services were held May 9 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Lipscomb officiating.

Kerry E. Epler
Kerry Ellis Epler, 57, passed away May 6, 2005 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark.
Kerry Epler was born March 14, 1948 in Lansing, the son of Elwin and ImoJean Harmon Epler. He married Brenda Hunter on Aug. 22, 1970 in Grand Ledge. He was ow3ner of a recycling plant and lived in Charlotte, prior to moving to Gassville, Ark. in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Epler of Gassville, Ark.; one son, Jason Epler of Elizbeth, Ark.; mother, ImoJean Schultz of Olivet; three grandchildren, Mark Reed Jr., Brett Reed and Gwendolyn Mero (Epler); four brothers, Kevin Epler of Olivet, Russ Epler of Bellevue, John Schultz of Charlotte and Andrew Schultz of Annaconda, Mont.; and two sisters, Sandi (Steve) Eishen of Olivet and Cindy (Mike) Pierce of Hart.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were held May 9 at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain Home, Ark., with Rev. Wayne Hurst officiating.
Bernard Ernst
Bernard W. “Bernie” Ernst, 80, of Galion, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005 at home.
Bernard was born April 21, 1925 in Galion, Ohio, the son of the late Clem Ernst and Melinda (Boehm) Ernst. He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1943 and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Bernard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, a member of Galion Elks Lodge 1191 and Polk Township AMVETS Post 1979. While in high school, he started Galion High School’s first golf team. He played semipro football, first for he Galion team and when that team disbanded he played for the Bucyrus Hornets.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Myers) Ernst, whom he married Dec. 28, 1946. Also surviving are three daughters, Jenny (James) Lamb of charlotte, Penny (Steve) Truitt of Columbus and Mary (John) Dioguardi of Athens; son, Paul (Donna) Ernst of Newbury; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Jim Ernst, and a sister, Dorothy Parris.
At the request of his family, no funeral services were held. An anatomical gift has been made to the Ohio State University School of Medicine.

Elmer A. Etson
Elmer A. Etson, 81, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 at the Ingham Regional Medical Center Greenlawn Campus.
Elmer was born March 19, 1924 in Walton Township, Eaton County, the son of Frank and Alta Louise (Turner) Etson and was a lifelong resident of the Olivet and Charlotte area.
Surviving are his brother, Calvin (Norma) Etson of Olivet; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank Wesley, Albert and Quintin Etson; and his mother, Mildred A. Etson.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Scott Brood of Ainger Bible Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Dialysis Unit or the charity of one’s choice.
